Im Canadian so my preference would be to play there, just in a super snowy play like Winnipeg. Im not a huge fan of big cities so this would be my list:

1.Jets
2.Kings
3.Ducks
4.Rangers
5.Islanders
6.Devils
7.Hawks

Winnipeg - winter weather and temps
Edmonton - above
Calgary - above and dumpy facilities
i live in western Canada but move to the USA from October to April, can’t really expect others to do what I am not willing to do
San Jose- been there, just not a fan of the area
Chicago - I would NOT play for that organization, just because

and now for the top 5 locations I’d go play in

Nashville- solid franchise, temperate weather, feedback as a great place to raise a family and live
Detroit - I know, I know, but it’s always been my absolute favourite team, I’d sign one contract to play there
Philadelphia - whadda sports twon
NYC Rangers or Islanders only - storied franchise and I like the area having spent time there

honourable mention
Carolina - solid org
Boston - no need to say much

The other thing that cracks me up here is the handful of references to the high cost of living in some places. Pretty sure it’s not an issue for 7 figure earners - and if you can afford to get into some of those costly markets, your ROI has historically been pretty sweet.

Kinda agree, if you get a NMC you better be making enough money to buy real estate anywhere. Only problem is for the minimum 800k per year guys with volatile salaries. They're probably still renting in Toronto or Vancouver cause if they buy and then gets cut or moved to europe, they are kinda screwed.

Arizona -Joke of a franchise.
Chicago- Crime/gun violence
Washington - Couldn't handle the lying politicians 24/7.
Toronto- Hate team
Philadelphia- Hate team, don't like big American cities.

No real order

Montreal - Media pressure and team doesn't always make the smartest personnel decisions.
Calgary - Edmontonian, plus ownership meddling.
Vancouver - Same as above.
Philadelphia - Not sure they have a plan
Winnipeg - Same as above
Arizona - Not sure they've ever had a plan
Nashville/Chicago/San Jose - Seems like a long rebuild
My tenth would be a tie
Vegas - Granted I have a NMC so they couldn't just dump me anywhere they'd want, but they'd find a way to make life miserable so that I wouldn't want to be there.
Edmonton - Not sure I want to play for hometown. Great when you're doing well, but man it's a good way to destroy your name if you aren't playing well. Not sure I'd want to put my family/friends through that. Granted no real sports radio so there would be less places for fans to complain lol.

Honestly, for the most part I just want to be on a team headed in the right direction or at least still competitive for a couple more seasons. I personally don't care about weather. Unlike a lot of people the cold doesn't bother me.

I dunno what to tell you my guy. I didn't say it didn't have either. As a matter of fact I brought it up to compare to Nashville on account of their reputation for nightlife. I said the area is disgusting regardless. Learn the difference.
I said you were comparing two cities with a vibrant nightlife and culture. You said you weren't. Now here, once again, you even use the word "compare" to compare them.

My point, if you care to even read it, is that you're comparing two cities with similar night life and culture amounts to say "I'd rather live in City X because they have the best of both worlds" when in actuality most cities do not. You're free to believe that downtown Nashville is basically the same as downtown Dallas or Sunrise though.

For the record, Nashville also has one of the highest crime rates in the nation when you compare all cities of all sizes. At least it doesn't look disgusting though I guess.

Didn't read through the whole thread, but players/agents will typically be more strategic if they have a partial NTC. It's not purely based on "I don't want to play there." A few years back, I think it was Alex Goligoski had his list get leaked. LA was on it but Anaheim wasn't which caused some people to draw the incorrect assumption that considered those two living situations that much differently. Rather it was that Anaheim already had Lindholm/Fowler so they wouldn't be a likely suitor for his services, so it was a calculated gamble to leave them off his list. Whereas LA had a need for LD, so they were a plausible trade partner.

In other instances, players will leave a team's rival off since they figure the team wouldn't trade them there.

Assuming I was in serious demand....

Avoid brutal winters - Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, and Buffalo
Avoid uncertainty - Arizona

10
Avoid oblivion - Columbus (sorry Jackets fans)

I'd probably tack on St Louis and Detroit as not being a fan of the cities themselves or the likely need to commute.

The remaining two would probably just be places with coaches I don't like or bad one-ice outlooks however often I may be able to update my list.

They're comparable in that they both have a reputation of being a nightlife city. They're certainly not comparable in the sense that one's nightlife area looks like a polluted cesspool and the other's doesn't.

"You're free to believe downtown Nashville is basically the same as downtown Dallas or Sunrise though." That's weird. I haven't said one word about Dallas or Sunrise in this thread and would gladly live in either city.

Dunno what to tell you, bud. NO is a dump. Judging by the vehement denial of that, I'm guessing you probably have ties there.

I would assume that I am not living in that city year round from when the season is done to Labour Day. Have the option to have a summer home elsewhere. Because it's like over 40 degrees Celsius for all of July so far in Phoenix. Texas and Florida also in a heat wave too.

Agree with brutal winters. Especially if I have a spouse and kids. When I'm on a 10-14 day road trip don't want the spouse have to lug a stroller, diaper bag, thick jackets, etc. on their own. If it's just me, can manage.

Uncertainty or losing situations. Stay away from.

Winnipeg
Edmonton
Calgary
Arizona
Carolina

I wouldnt have issues playing on any Californian team, despite the fact some are in a rebuild.

Here's my 10 not to wanna play for.

Yotes
Kings
Ducks
Sharks
Stars
Panthers
Lightning
Golden Knights
Hurricanes
Predators

Philadelphia - The hate is just too strong.
Florida - I ain't living in f***ing Florida
Tampa - I ain't living in f***ing Florida
Arizona - I ain't living in f***ing Arizona
Dallas - I ain't living in f***ing Texas

I actually want winter weather. If I were a real player I'm sure I'd weigh depth charts and fits more, but I'm not so it mostly goes by where I just wouldn't want to live.
