Thats why theyre in a bad shape? They have no value tied to the organization after Guentzle.

They could easily get value in a few years for Rust, Rakell, Crosby, Malkin, Letang.

If they wanted to sell off players this year they probably can get a 1st for a retained Zucker or a comparable prospect, a 3rd or 4th for Teddy Blueger, and some return for Jarry and Dumoulin.

The issue with saying they are in bad shape is that they are at the end of a contention window. They are structured in a way to be in bad shape in a few years.

Philly. Mainly because they are deceiving themselves about their talent level and the ability to win with "grit". Fletcher and Torts are robbing the franchise of the opportunity to build back through top end talent at the draft. They better pray that the 11th overall pick in the draft leads them back to the promised land. I wouldn't bank on it.

How is this not a runaway for the yotes
Because Arizona has a legit shot at Connor Bedard. Philly is doing everything possible to remain in NHL purgatory.

Where are the votes for San Jose?
They have a shallow prospect pool and tons of money tied up in aging stars that are on the decline. Vlasic, Karlsson(I know he's having a great year but still) and Couture just off the top of my head. I also haven't heard of anyone in their prospect pool really.
They have some bad situations but their newer mangement doesn't seem all in on trying to win anymore, so they're not as much in disarray as Vancouver or Philly

Columbus is 100000% not in that boat. One of the youngest teams in the league and a loaded prospect pool. They don’t even belong in the discussion. They’ll probably have a top 3 pick too. The Gudbranson contract is really their only really bad contract. But it’s $4M. Not that bad (4M for Gud is f***ing terrible, but 4M is very manageable - that’s what I mean).
Forgot Elvis

Arizona is in decent shape. Arena deal looks promising, Cooley and Guenther are legit, insane amount of draft pics accumulated, top 5 pick in this year's stacked draft. They just need to flip Chychrun at the deadline while he's still healthy and playing some of the best hockey of his life and they'll have a laughable amount of future assets.

About $5.3 million from buyouts as well.

Oh yeah. I forgot about all that dead Yandle money. That does make a difference. Especially when they have a pretty strong position for getting Free Agents to patch holes for a potentially slight discount.

It's a 2 horse race between Vancouver and Chicago.

Vancouver. Since 2011 they've unraveled in every way possible. JT Miller seems to haunt this squad and their owner/GM combo is among the worst of all time.

Chicago. Awful for other reasons. Despite winning cups they are looked upon with disdain and disgust because of their treatment of a young player going through some pretty serious abuse. They are awful to this day for their deliberate tanking, maybe the most deliberate we've ever seen. Terrible organization, a true embarrassment to the league. I vote them.

I’m so sick of people blaming the Chicago Blackhawks organization. You wanna be mad at someone be mad at the individuals that were involved and in charge at the time. And they’ve all rightfully been fired.

Like I get the jealousy over their success and the natural aching to be salty….but c’mon, let’s stop acting like the “Chicago Blackhawks” are to blame. They’ve moved on and gotten rid of the scummy people that allowed that BS to happen.

I'm not sure how much Philly can bring in for Hart, Provorov, Konecny, etc. and now that Sanheim is signed, they can't move him as easily as before. On top of contracts to a bunch of injured guys taking up major cap space. It is going to be pain for a long long time.

At least VAN can get a haul for EP, Hughes on top of everyone else that will get moved. But both franchises are completely f***ed even with a Bedard or similar magnitude player landing there.

Chicago is just at the beginning of a new cycle and management is realistic about it so can't really say they're f***ed at all. Even the Jones contract is fine in a rebuild.

I am going to tell you why this is the Canucks. I’m well aware philly is currently in worse shape, but in 1.5 yrs the Canucks might see they’re best 3 forwards, horvat, kuzmenko and E.P. All walk for nothing. This is ownerships fault in telling his management team he doesn’t want picks or prospects but nhl players in return that can help now. The problem is what contending team is going to trade a younger, likely cheaper with still potential for a pending ufa in horvat. Teams are looking to trade picks and prospects and that isn’t what Aquilini wants. And even if kuzmenko wants to stay in Vancouver moving forward, with what cap space? The Canucks do not have the space to sign him, period. Imagine horvat, kuzmenko and E.P.all Leaving for nothing, canucks Fans will wish they had the coyotes to cheer for in 1.5 yrs….

Look, i can't speak to Vancouver or Chicago too much but the Flyers have to be in the discussion.

We're an old team on long contracts that are no good. We still have this absolute cretin of a GM who seems immune to the sack. He's so terrible he can't even make the team truly terrible and we'll end up picking #10 again - fixing nothing except wasting a year of Carter Hart.

There's literally nothing to look forward to in Philadelphia hockey.

Konechny is turning into a hell of a player. Otherwise, you’re spot on.

For me it's between Vancouver and Philly. Both of those teams have for years failed to recognize the need for a rebuild, and to this day still refuse to acknowledge it. Yes, Vancouver has some good building blocks to build around like Hughes, EP and Demko. But who's to say EP will stick around with all the circus going around the organization, not just on the ice but behind the scenes as well.

Teams like Chicago, Arizona, Montreal, Columbus etc. all have a direction they are going for. Yes, Arizona is playing at a college rink and that's a mockery of pro sports, but they have a plan for a future arena too.

it's close but Vancouver...the team is straddling the line between "rebuild" and mediocre...not bad enough for a super high pick but not good enough for a playoff spot
not to mention bad contracts all over the place (Miller, Boeser, OEL, Garland) that are almost impossible to move without a sweetener and players they should keep they can't now (Horvat) and their core centerman not signed long term (Pettersson)
oh, and no blue chippers on the way since Benning traded away a lot of draft picks

people saying Chicago are nuts...Toews and Kane off the books soon, and Jones is their only long term deal and at least he's a good d-man, plus they're horrible enough to get a really high pick
