Bernier has always been good, just a bit under-sized I think that's the floor for a Freddy replacement.

We need someone that can platoon with Jack sure but they also need to hold the net in the playoffs if need be

It comes down to who is available

Kuemper or one of VGKs starters would be my want but who knows availability

Cal Petersen in LA is a low cap hit option if desired

And then you wake up hungover thanking f*** that you didnt do anything stupid. Like go backwards.
I get it... And I agree to an extent.

But reality is.. Bernier has better numbers than Andersen on a absolute TERRIBLE team. If he's the cheapest goalie available he might be worth a look maybe?

Andersen is growing a bit of a muffin top and that cellulite on his thighs isn't looking like it's going away. The puppy love phase is dying out quick, might be time to start calling the ex over to watch some Netflix and chill as a rebound.

(Not trying fat shaming just playing around)

If Andersen can't get it together I'm just curious what the cost of Bernier would be compared to these other goalies available. His numbers haven't looked that bad in the advanced stats and he's getting pelted point blank on most nights... He hasn't really had a good team play infront of him since his LA days... Maybe he might surprise people with this defense infront of him.

Gibson has a 0.894 sv% this year (worse than Andersen) and a 0.904 sv% last year (worse than Andersen). He somehow still has a reputation for being an elite goalie, which means the asking price is way higher than it should be. It would be a mistake to target him.

I'd probably go for a guy like Merzlikins or Ullmark and let them compete with Campbell for starts

This team has a chance to advance if we get a starting goalie that can make a damn save when needed. Dubas NEEDS to make a move now! You are not going to get one in the north division so making a trade from a team in any of the other divisions now makes sense because of quarantine rules. Personally I would love to see MAF, but whether that can be pulled off is another story

I’m not sure Gibson costs as much as people think, goalies sometimes don’t bring an equal return and his numbers have lagged on a total garbage team, which has to impact cost. People looking at his save percentage, well duh, have you see the team in front of him? How excited and motivated to go from a lottery team to “cup” contender, he may just shine.

I take a chance and kick the tires, he’s been dominant before and he’s just in his “prime” now.

Great. We have two examples in the last 30 years of hockey where a team acquired a goalie before the deadline and went deep. Did those teams have a salary cap?

People are hopeful in this thread. There's nothing wrong with that.

I am not so hopeful.

Dubas / Shanny made their bed.

That's what worries me too, he's not an elite goalie. Even with a team as bad as Anaheim you expect more from an elite goaltender, we've seen Ryan Miller and some other guys, we've seen Carey Price and freakin Brian Gionta/Scott Gomez as the habs best forwards. Those were real elite goalies. I think Gibson is better than his save percentage might indicate, Anaheim is a train wreck, but not an elite goalie. Still would be an upgrade on Freddy though. This is the best and most structured D I have seen from the leafs in my life time, and second worst goaltending. Freddys performance is second to only Tosakala.

Gibson has a very high price tag and AAV, and his numbers have been sub par the last couple of seasons.

Too risky, especially with our cap issues.

With goalies you might be jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

I'm not sure I would want the Leafs to spend assets for any of the above.

You just don't know what you're getting.

Based on the goaltenders in the market who should we go after ? Are we better off keeping Freddy til the end of the year or making a move now ? I personally believe if we want to be a contender, we make some sort of deal now. The group is playing well enough to contend if we had a competent goalie in net. Campbell may be that guy, but it's clear Freddy definitely isn't that guy. Who should we pursue and why ?

I chose "other" because of the obvious salary cap issues.

Is Veini Vehvilainen ready to start or back up Campbell?

Unless Freddy agrees to go on LTIR which is best move for everyone except Freddy then we are screwed with him as backup ... no one else wanted him for any serious value in summer ... a couple teams wanted him for basically nothing ... da league realizes he is done ... we should taken da 3rd rounder supposedly offered

I think there are some pretty obvious options like Kuemper, Ulmark, and Khubodin missing from the list. Gibson/Lehner I don't think are being moved, and then several other goalies on the list are downright bad (e.g. Murray/Jones).

How about this guy , we can probably get him on the cheap ?

Who would’ve thought Bernier would be better than Andersen lmao

Just for context, Bernier’s 14-15 season with a pretty shit team was way better than anything Andersen has done for us.

But somehow Bernier was given no benefit of the doubt and run out of town. Now we have a goalie who’s never held accountable. How does this even happen?

Capfriendly.
UFA
Played at least 12 games
Keep in mind teams aren't trading players they are keeping for the playoffs.
I don't see many options, but I do see the issue on this list.

Sticking with my Holtby pick. The only proven goalie on the list with a cup ring other than Murray. No quarantine wait and the team in front of him was horrible before turning it around recently with Demko. Canucks are up against the cap and would have to give up picks/prospects in an exchange for Freddy.
