I think tonight proved all we really need is one goalie to be hot in the playoffs if the team plays like they have majority of the season.

I'm comfortable going in with Campbell and Andersen, but two things need to happen:

1. Freddy needs to be 100%
2. Keefe needs to have the balls to do what the caps did with Holtby in the 2018 playoffs.

What DID they do with Holtby

We don't need anyone to back up Jack Campbell. Unless he gets injured that is then I would look to bring someone in but none of those names are very appealing. Maybe Jones.

One goalie to look into that we might be able to get is Chris Driedger from Florida.

He's a UFA, he's 26. Like Campbell he's been a backup but he's outplayed Bobrovsky both seasons there. He's making 850K this season and will likely command a raise as he has a .924 save %. Since Florida is paying Bobrovsky 10M/year, I don't know how much they can afford to pay a backup.

This is his first real crack at the NHL and he is doing great. Seems like a good 1/2 tandem with Campbell.

Driedger stats:
2019-20: 12GP .938 save percentage (Bob 50GP .900 save percentage)
2020-21: 13GP .924 save percentage (Bob 17GP .906 save percentage)

Don’t see Florida trading him, so if we get him as an FA - sure.

Campbell/Andersen this remainder of season, but majority starts go to Campbell. He’s been the better goalie.

I don't want to risk another injury by overloading Campbell with games though. If there's someone we can bring in for a fair price to distribute some games, I'd do it, because at this point, if it's risking injury of Campbell and starting Anderson, I'd risk the injury

Give the new goalie from Columbus a chance , he’s Finnish do maybe he’ll be like kippursof

The question I ask is that if he's good then why would Columbus given him up? IMO, Jarmo is one of the top GMs in the league, did we really just get a really good goalie from him?

Andersen's career is far from over, he is now going to be able to recuperate and get back to full health and with it his mobility and the confidence that's been obviously lacking. So no, the Leafs do not need to go out and get another goaltender. They'll be fine and the offence which is fantastic will shake the hard luck and come back to the almost 4 GPG that they are most definitely capable of. Envision the team with Ekholm on the blue line, another excellent 2 way guy, with a little more offensive flair than Brodie. Envision that team with Chicky getting his mojo back and Buster playing full-time on the 1 line, Kerf centering Simmer and Soup and Jumbo, Vintage and Engvall doing their thing and playing anywhere they're needed to provide a little spark. I like that team.

What team has acquired a starting goalie before the deadline and gone on to do damage in the playoffs?

Dwayne Roloson back in 2006 for the Oilers. Adding a good starter to a strong team can be the difference between an early exit and a deep run. Had the Oilers not added him there's no way that we would've beaten Detroit and made it to the SCF. Had he not gotten hurt we may well have won the cup that season. Hopefully for Toronto's sake Andersen finds his game or Campbell stays healthy and goes on a run. Seeing as Oilers fans were also looking for a goalie before Smith stepped in and has done well (no idea how long that will last at his age), I think that Dubas should consider adding a 3rd goalie to the mix in case Freddie continues to struggle. The Oilers did this by claiming Stalock, we'll see how that pans out down the line.

When I look at all the fun that Florida is having with Bobrovsky it makes me grateful the Leafs haven't yet gone all in on acquiring the goalie to beat all goalies.

I dont know who they should pursue, if anyone. Its a very unpredictable position.

They might be just as well to work with what they have, and develop from within.

Yes I heard that already. I remember him. Also Roy was mentioned. You realize that although it's not impossible, it's extremely rare. When you consider 2 names in 30 years it's likel going to happen. Especially when there was no salary cap during those years.

I can’t believe that Gibson is leading this poll. He’s basically living on reputation here, as he hasn’t been very good for a bit now. His stats are actually worse than Andersen’s this year, but somehow people think Committing to a guy with what five more years at $6.4 mil per is smart?

Ullmark or Kuemper have played well on poor teams, have much lower cap hits and would cost much less to obtain. If you are one of these people who have posted deals including Nylander for Gibson, shame shame shame.

I clicked on Korpisalo but then saw Gibson.

If you trust that Gibson is just a victim of circumstances on a bad Anaheim team, I would think very hard about taking the all-in futures package and saving it for the goalie changing position. Fred will be gone and we can transition to a starter in his mid 20s with a great pedigree and track record.

No way, Gibson's contract is 6.5 Million for the next 6 years.
I'm not paying a goalie anything like that, especially, when he's been bad for the past 2 years.

Dubas doesnt have the stones to bring in another goaltender at this point in the season.

Stay with Andersen/Campbell. Keep playing the hot hand and let wounds heal where need be. No need to waste assets on the position at this time. Fill the holes in front of them, get better where you can and the goalie situation will fix itself.
