Where are McDavid and Draisaitl when it matters?

no one should be blaming mcdavid for being down 3-0. this is clearly a personnel issue with the oilers entire roster. jets based their entire playoff gameplan just around shutting down mcdavid and they've done so perfectly.

mcdavid was involved with 55% of the oilers total offence during the regular season. this should tell you how dependent edmonton is on him and if he's being held to limited scoring, the rest of the depth is non-existent.

It doesn't work that way, if you are the best players in the world and you are held scoreless game 1&2, yes the blame falls on McDavid and & Draisaitl for those games, not game 3 at least not offensively. If you are that easy to shutdown, then you are not that good of a player. All teams rely on their the stars to produce regardless of the opposing team trying to shut them down since that is a given. Can you put the blame soley on them for not having a Stanley Cup caliber winning team, no, that requires depth. Can you blame them for being down to a 3-0 fairly mediocre Winnipeg team , yes absolutely.

have to agree. if we end up losing (lol) this is on their shoulders

The NHL playoffs are designed to stifle skill. We all should know this by now. The rules are changed to protect rough 'n' tough play -- otherwise known as cheating by lesser-skilled players and teams-- and top players, like McDavid and many before him, are keyed upon by "shadows" who are able to hack, whack, hook, hold, interfere and harass. It doesn't always work, of course, but often does. Those stars with deep teams that can spread the wealth of talent have a better shot at succeeding. As clutch as, say, Patty Kane undeniably is, he'd mostly get stuffed on these Oilers teams, too. It has ever been thus, and ever will be. I'm not an Oilers fan, and top stars are obviously not above criticism, but it's not "playoffs pressure" or whatever BS narrative that often leads so many offensive stars to fail. It's the bias of the NHL.

Playoff hockey- where skill goes to die

Draisatl often comes off as a sullen, sulking petulant little punk after losses.

He appeared that way in spades after the most recent loss to the Jets. Slouched over, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, almost sneering at questions.

It's a horrible look.
I really question the leadership of the oilers or I guess the lack of leadership. Depending on how you look at it.

There is lots of blame to go around:
* Poor drafting and player development
* Poor scouting/signing UFAs
* Coaching, strongly emphasizing offence over defence.
* McDavid, and to a lesser degree Draisaitl, being too focused at scoring and ignoring defence.
* Fans being content to pump McDavid's tires and declare him a generational talent while ignoring that a team with poor depth is much more likely to be successful by playing tight defence.

Until this changes it will continue to be rinse and repeat.

You can blame them for game 1/2 but tonight they generated 3 goals. That should be enough to win the game. This one is on dem gritty/character/leadership veterans (aka overrated bums) that HF seems to love.

Time for Oilers to learn that they need depth...time to trade one of McDavid or Draisatl if they want a real shot at the Stanley Cup and not flop every year.

I haven't seen a self own this bad since O'Reilly said they'd beat the Avs.

Just here to quote this guy. Talk about self owning, how about them Oilers?

mcdavid doesn’t even pump his own tires.

Oilers have no depth, why is this a shock to everyone?

McDavid can pile on regular season points all he wants but he’s looking at another first round exit.

For who? For what?A bunch of random guys because DEPTH

Just give Draisaitl his own line.

I notice that as well tbh, but I've also noticed the sheer amount of stupid questions he gets asked. NHL has a lot of stupid reporters who don't know how to phrase questions among other things.

However no matter how stupid, you gotta be a pro's pro and that means answering questions like how McDavid did tonight; he was also pissed off.

All players are different for sure they all have personalities.

McDavid is too predictable. It's amazing how he can make plays at twice the speed of other guys, but he never slows the play down or opts to make a physical play.

I get that McDavid hasn't had a lot of help, but he could be a lot better. He relies on his main trick (his speed) way too much. Draisaitl has consistently looked much better in this series. Puljujaarvi, Nurse and Yamamoto have all looked good, so it's not literally a two-man show.

I still feel uncomfortable with these threads before the series is over though. The Oilers have won 4 straight against the Jets already this year.
