Sportsnet: Q. Byfield Available?

Its exciting to project the monumental stupidity that blake, bergevin and robitaille can possibly bring to trade deadline.
Cmon rob blake these next couple of days will probably be your ladt best chance to totally f*** the kings future more than you already have.

The Minnesota Wild are considering trading Marco Rossi amidst his breakout season, as they seek a larger center as a contingency for Joel Eriksson Ek's injury concerns. Los Angeles Kings' Quinton Byfield, a 6-foot-5 center with speed, fits this profile and is on the Wild's radar. However, acquiring Byfield would be costly, as the Kings hold him in high regard and would expect significant returns. With current roster constraints and a desire to maintain their strong farm system, the Wild might consider packaging Rossi with other players to entice a trade for Byfield. Ultimately, pursuing Byfield could solidify the Wild's future while catering to their current needs.

Leafs in on Byfield:

Quinton Byfield

This would be a very complicated trade admittedly, as Byfield’s $6.25 million AAV would be hard to navigate for Treliving and the Leafs, but adding a 22-year-old who is locked up long term, with the salary cap rising, and a ton of untapped potential in his game would be a coup.
While the Kings locked up Byfield long-term last summer, they didn’t give him any trade protection through his deal, which expires after the 2028-29 season.
Byfield has been linked to some trade talks throughout this season, so it would be interesting to see how significant of a package GM Rob Blake would be looking for to pull the trigger. Byfield has recorded 11 goals and 34 points in 50 games, and showed last season as a 21-year-old, he has top-six talent, posting 20 goals and 55 points in 80 games.
The 2026 first-round pick would be in play here, likely Max Domi to help balance the money out, and one of Fraser Minten or Cowan. Byfield’s a ‘hockey trade’ candidate, and it’s going to take a massive haul for Blake to strongly consider finalizing the deal.
Byfield would give the Leafs a core piece that can help push the next generation in Toronto alongside Matthew Knies. He contributes on both sides of special teams, he’s improving in the faceoff circle, and he’s only going to get strong and harder to play against. Playing for Craig Berube would do wonders for Byfield’s game, he’s certainly an ‘off the board’ target for the Maple Leafs, but one that could have lasting impacts on the franchise for years to come.

I fail to see how taking a package of Domi, a late 1st and Cowan for Byfield could be acceptable for the Kings

This sounds exactly like the kind of nonsense and bullshit the Toronto media pumps out to keep the Leafs fans geeked and clicking during trade season.

Byfield for Rantanen incoming...
It cant be. Byfield is their only real center right now. Kopitar and Danault are both ready to be taken to the nursing home. They can barely keep up with the tempo anymore its a travesty.
They called up Helenius today. He is a good 4c. He got like 5 shifts all game.
They have no centers in the pipeline either after those 4. Its not possible for them to move any center for a winger right now.

You're dreaming about the Wild including anything significant on top of Rossi in a trade for Byfield. Byfield is not as good as Rossi right now, and he can only skate by on his draft position/potential for so long.

Teams like Buffalo and Montreal would be offering significantly more if it’s just a picks/prospects return for a young C. Doesn’t make any sense.

Kypreos is pretty entertaining for radio chatter, along the lines of the old adage that the only cardinal sin on radio is dead air... but he's not really an insider. He has tons of contacts around the league, but not really of the inside-GM-rooms type. I'd take a lot of what he suggests with a grain of salt.

I'm also of the opinion that when people play a game of telephone with his radio hits, it turns out that when it's reported that he said a guy is available, what he actually ended up saying is that it makes a certain amount of sense and that teams should consider it, or that teams are very interested, or something along those lines. Guys have to do so much radio now, there's so much air time they need to fill, that they don't have enough genuine rumors content and so they admittedly fill that space with speculation. It's a nuance that isn't always picked up on.

When an insider says anything, people tend to take it as a rumor. Yet Elliotte used to only have to write a weekly column of pure rumors, the dregs or overflow of stuff he couldn't fit on his five minutes on HNIC as a sideline reporter. Those leftovers became 32T. Now he has 40 hours of radio hits to do a week and there just isn't that much rumors content to fill that time. So insiders now spend a lot of their time with radio hosts heavily speculating, and sprinkling in the odd rumor. It wouldn't be an issue if people were better at listening. No wonder Woj left the insider business to be an athletic director...

I dissagree with Kings fans here. If the kings could get a smaller offensive talent like an even injured Jack Hughes or Connor Bedard for Byfield I’d take that all day.

If Byfield is available, Flames need to jump on it. I'd retain multiple years on Rasmus Andersson or Nazem Kadri

Surely there are no LA fans that think Byfield is even close to the value of Jack Hughes or Bedard?

something around Trocheck ++ for Byfield + as a base

Would rather just throw a ridiculous offer sheet at Rossi.

I don't think the Devils or Hawks even consider that.

In four seasons Byfield's got one 20-goal/55-point season and is on pace this year to finish well below both of those marks. He also has his own injury history.

Hughes is only one year older but has already locked in his 4th straight PPG+ season for $2.25M more. In his rookie season Bedard already topped QB's peak numbers and has one more year on his ELC.

So unless you're adding a lot to the deal, NJ and Chicago laugh at this trade.

Its not up to me its the Kings brass making the call. I was just saying I dont think theres a chance he goes for Rantanen because they have no centers.
I like Trocheck though not sure Id do it.
