Where are McDavid and Draisaitl when it matters?

He really isn't. He's been good, exactly what you'd expect out of a starting goalie.

Agree with this. You haven't seen Helly at his best yet. Those high danger chances where our D push you guys to the side are his bread and butter.
We don't like to give up shots from the slot where he is more vulnerable.

I love Mcdavid but I thought all the "better then Crosby ever was already" talk was a bit premature.
100% and I think it was so obvious it was premature.

And just recently I heard Dom Luzcuysuynnzz in an Athletic podcast berate anyone who’d suggest that his scoring etc. this season is not perfectly representative of how good he is. And Dom is the “analytical” guy just looking at what the numbers say.

Let McDavid play for some time in various circumstances before judging anything. He may come back and win the CS this year, he may not. He may ultimately break up the big 4 all time players, and he may not.

Crosby’s game might just translate better in the playoffs. Crosby is a strong possession type player. It’s not typical to see awesome end to end rushes and highlight reel goals in the playoffs like Mcdavid usually produces. Most of the goals are gritty garbage like. It’s too bad because Mcdavid is awesome to watch.

Imagine calling McDavid and Draisaitl chokers after two games and actually believing it.

These boards are comedy gold some days.

Connor McDavid has 2 even strength points in 15 career playoff games. How many more games before we can start to ask the question?

Draisaitl has had good stretches in the playoffs and has dominated at certain times. McDavid has not.

One has 18 points in 19 career playoff games, the other has 22 in 19. I think they're doing just fine.

It's only 2 games, and it could just as easily be 2-0 for the Oilers right now.

I'm happy with the Jets commitment to defense, and juat hoping they can keep it up. The Jets wont likley be able to blank McDavid and Draisaitl indefinitely.

Plenty of series left.

Remove last year's playins (yes those games should not count as real playoffs) skewing the average and you're looking at 9 in 15 and 16 in 15. Doesn't look so "fine" anymore.

See above. No adjustments were made for the playoffs.

I thnk the whole point of this thread is to point out that McDavid and Drai need to adjust themselves for the playoffs or face reasonable critique for not having a game that translates as well in the playoffs.

This should settle the McDavid vs. MacKinnon debate for good. I'll pick a playoff performer over a guy that disappears when it matters every time.

It's not exactly validating his regular season performance against that pathetic Canadian division.

My hot take is McDavid is the Hasek of forwards, dominant in the regular season, nothing special in the playoffs. Much like you’d want Roy over Hasek when it matters, Crosby is the guy you win with.

Having said that, McD is young and has a lot of career ahead of him.

That's not a hot take, it's a fact based on the current sample size.

The next part of your statement is sort of illogical in comparison. Syd is in the twilight of his career and isn't a proper comparable to McDavid. It's MacKinnon or even Matthews. And so far, MacKinnon is the guy you win with. Even if you haven't won it all yet, his playoff career is already way above the other two

uhhhh what?

You can't just look at points. Cooke-Staal-Kennedy was the best 3rd line in the league at that point. Was good defensively and could keep possession. Guys like Talbot, Fedotenko, Guerin, Kunitz, etc while not offensively gifted were made for playoff hockey.

Pens defense was also much better with Gonchar-Orpik, Letang-Eaton, and shutdown pair Scuderi-Gill.

That said Crosby/Malkin were spectacular and carried them to the cup, but the rest of the team was able to hold par if they weren't on the ice. Edmonton gets caved in if McDavid/Draisaitl isn't on the ice.

Fair enough, but the Oiler's problem last game was not defense as far as I'm aware (1-0 lost in OT). It's the lack of offense.

Draisatl seems to have ok playoff stats overall. McDavid being under ppg in the playoffs is kinda disapointing to say the least

I mean kicking the shit out of the carcass of the Chicago Blackhawks isn't exactly something to brag about.

Literally half of McDavid's playoff points came in 4 games against the Hawks.

You're not going to see many pretty plays when the refs put the whistles away. That's not an excuse in my mind, it's just a fact that describes part of why playoff hockey is the way it is. Last game there were several Oilers chances taken away by clear hooks and holds and there were no power plays that came from it. It's a different game with different skills needed.

And full credit to Hellebuyck and Winnipeg's skaters for their good sticks. Even poor defensive players like Scheifele and Connor have bought in for this series.

A two game sample size. lmao

Hasek >>>>>> Roy. Playoffs included.
But imagine this: he took a pretty bad Buffalo team that had no business being in the play offs in the first place to a SC final and he didn't win it! What a terrible play-off performance. Couldn't happen to Roy...

...cuz he would never carry that team anywhere near the finals.
