Where are McDavid and Draisaitl when it matters?

While McDavid and Draisaitl aren’t producing, the problem is bigger than that. Where is the secondary scoring? Teams can’t rely on 2 players. Period.

I’m an outsider watching I have no horse in this race but what I’ve seen in two games is Jets playing a hard defensive game on 97 and 29 and shutting them down. Tipper can only work with what he’s got and Oilers are just not a deep team. I agree Tipper is overrated coach I don’t think he’s even line matching when he has the last change what’s the point of home ice then? Anyway at some point the roster needs to be upgraded because Oilers can’t keep burning through coaches I lost count how many coaching changes the last 12 years. Oilers need to make some big changes to the roster this off season the McDrai window has 4 years left the time to win is now
The roster does need to be upgraded and that includes the coach. Part of the reason the Oilers have burned through so many coaches is because they hire shitty or also-ran coaches.

Lol 2 games doesn’t determine much. he played pretty good tonight but Hellebuyck was a wall.

True they could get 5-6 points each next game in a blow out and average out their “expected stats” don’t count them out yet

His regular season convinced me he was the best in the world, then I remembered he was in the AHL all season playing Canadian teams and now can't get a secondary assist in the post season. He has a ton to prove anymore.

but he is still playing a north team lol. People love to hate. He had a terrible three game stretch vs Toronto in the regular season. Just so happened he is hitting another to start the playoffs

It's so funny how it can be night and day when it comes to season vs playoffs. Sure, check super tight on McDrai and you can slow them down, but why not do it in the season too? The Jets were just not trying as hard?
Well yeah, of course guys aren't going to give it their all every single regular season game. Plus there is much more gameplanning in the postseason, often in the RS you don't even get a practice in between games.

You can't give him credit for his regular season if you are going to make excuses for him in the playoffs.
This is pretty much it. It's logically inconsistent for McDavid to be the sole reason for their success but it's his teammates fault in the playoffs

I wonder who are the top penalty drawing players

He's cherry picking data or doesn't understand it. For example, McDavid was tied for 2nd in penalties drawn in the regular season. By using the PD/60 minute, he's including a ton of players that barely play each game or have barely played any games which skew the results.

For example, only one player (Brendan Lemieux) in the top 25 of PD/60 played more than 13 games.

Penalties per 60 is a stupid way to evaluate calls. Just because someone plays more doesn't mean more penalties will now be called when they're on the ice. Star players do draw a large share of the total penalties and take a small share.

McDavid led the league with a +19 penalty differential this season.

Top 10 penalty differentials since McDavid came into the league.
  1. Gaudreau +133
  2. McDavid +126
  3. Ehlers +105
  4. MacKinnon +93
  5. Barkov +92
  6. Skinner +90
  7. Eichel +80
  8. Pastrnak +74
  9. O'Rielly +71
  10. Kopitar +68
  11. Duchene +68

The advanced analytics era has given too much data to too many people who don't understand elementary statistics.

yeah also I think Bobby Nick needs to be fired into the sun! I honestly don’t know what he brings to the table other than an over priced crappy burger lol Holland has some magic to do to turn the ship around and at least make a big splash on UFA day I haven’t looked to see who all the big fish are but a top 6 forward and top 4 dman are a must and he’s in a pickle with what to do to Nuge, Larsson, Barrie and Smith? He can’t sign them all but that’s a lot of holes to fill if they all walk.

To be fair teams just finished a 56 game season with many many practices in between so by playoff time they should be well oiled machines plus you use the breaks in between playoff games to rest

Top penalty drawers should draw penalties.

players that don’t draw penalties should not draw penalties.

I just want consistency

Guys like mcdavid and barrel should b at the top and its not even close. It's the speed d can't handle and they start to grab on and get in the way to slow u down. That's what isn't being called

Everyone whining about star players not being able to do their thing needs to explain to me what's currently happening in Colorado.

God don't even get me started on Nicholson. "ThE mOsT rEsPeCtEd MaN iN hOcKeY!!111"

The Oilers problem is that they keep hiring from the poison well of Hockey Canada when a five year old could pick Canada's teams. The team has simply replaced the old OBC with a newer one, and quite frankly I'm not convinced Holland is the guy to transform this team into a contender.

Landy, Rantanen, MacKinnon are not soft.

Last season early exit probably back of their minds

Helps to train with Crosby, Marchand

MacKinnon (and Rantanen) has a really good supporting cast around him. McDavid and Drai have nothing.

Disagree. So 1st... how the heck did they obtain a better regular season record than Jets?

2nd ... they have RNH, Nurse. Bottom 6 may be so so. But lack of scoring looks like the issue

If a team top guns score/drivers but team loses. You have a point.

I dunno, the Jets only had to worry about one line last night because the other three weren't going to do anything, and Tippett doesn't believe in matching lines.

Easy peasy for Winnipeg.

The Oilers supporting cast hasn't changed and the opposition has always put their top line/pair against McDavid.

Nothing has changed other than the style of the game and McDrai haven't adapted.

They wear 29 and 97, along with 41.

Even as McDavid and Draisatl were tearing it up near the end of the regular season, we still got zippo from every other line.
