Gotta feel for the kid right now. So close. Perhaps that bad taste in his mouth will light a fire in him if he signs and suits up for the Buds in these last few games. That’s what I’m hoping anyway.

The signing bonuses is apparently a big hurdle to him signing. With him not having a confirmed spot, I doubt the Leafs should or will bend. That being said knowing he gets a burn year and he could have a roster spot if earned I hope the kid makes a good choice

no it's not eliott f. said leafs and him have already negotiated the contract. Max ELC and Max Signing bonus. He just wont get the performance bonus' none of Matthews, Marner or Nylander did with the leafs.

I suspect tomorrow, and hopefully they can get Woll up here too, and hopefully if they can get Woll up they do the smart thing and play Woll back to back.

I know people have this irrational hate for playing goalies on back to back nights,I don't care, you protect Samsonov, you DO NOT play him, ESPECIALLY Tuesday against Tampa because they will run him at EVERY opportunity because of course they will Why wouldn't they want to weaken a 1st round opponent?

I agree with your logic, though I would protect Woll too as he has a future here as well. Woll then Murray? Give Jett a full game? But I would save Sammy for the last game of the season

How you do it, doesn't really matter to me.

You can play Woll back to back nights.

You can play Murray back to back nights

You can play Jett Alexander in back to back nights and if he wins EITHER of them what a story THAT would be.

Hell you can call up Erik Kallgren and play him back to back nights.

How you do it doesn't really matter but you HAVE to protect Samsonov

Too bad for Knies, but of the four that made it having Quinnipiac win was the best outcome.

Its amazing really that Leafs are so close to the cap limit that it prevents them from signing a prospect to an ELC, without jumping through various hurdles.

Looks like Dubas has managed himself into a stalemate,, can't even dress a goalie!

Maxed out on salary and contracts.

I will tip my hat and say JOB WELL DONE!!!

They could have dressed a goalie...

they chose to not dress one so they could get a goalie with a $0 cap hit the next game.

It looks like they have 24 players on the roster, and will add a goalie and likely Knies, then send down Simmonds... 25 players on the roster and being cap compliant is amazing cap management

This is not managing the cap, the cap is controlling the lineup.
This is not something to be proud of.

They are able to play a roster larger than the 23 max because they are so good at managing the cap, that's impressive for a team in "cap hell".

I am not sure you have a good grasp on how the cap works, but lots of teams have played a man down (Colorado a lot last year), we took a calculated risk in a nothing game to allow the most flexibility moving forward.

Due to an injury and resting some players for the playoffs, we had one guy sit on the bench instead of another guy and then gave him a special moment for 1 minute where he faced 0 shots in a dominant win. What a hurdle to overcome! :eyeroll:

Take a look around the league. Almost everybody is close to the cap limit. Utilizing your cap isn't a bad thing, and we're able to do everything we want to do.

It does matter though. Like the poster you're responding to said, you should protect Woll too. Not only because he might be our future, but also because we might need him in the playoffs. We might need Murray in the playoffs as well so yeah, you play neither of those guys back to back.

If Murray can go Monday and Woll Tuesday that's fine, too I don't really care HOW you do it but you MUST protect Samsonov THAT is what's important

Protecting Samsonov is most important, but protecting the others is also important and since there's no reason we can't protect them all, that's what we do.
