Trotz for on the radio yesterday and said he needed until Christmas to truly evaluate the team. I'd expect Bruno to be coaching the team until after the holidays then.

I'm beginning to think Trotz has no idea what he is doing and is just button mashing as a gm to try and capture lightning in a bottle again.
Like I've said I actually hope that Brunette keeps coaching this team into oblivion.. hearing Trotz call Hagens' name next summer on the draft podium will make it all worth it.

The thing is I would be annoyed but could at least see the logic for patience if this teams core wasn’t already old. But pretty much everyone is on the wrong side of 30 so history would suggest that we don’t really have a whole season to waste seeing what happens. We’re probably already at a point of no return and if we haven’t turned it around by Christmas than we are truly done for. Maybe Trotz has some grand plan to start dumping vets after the holidays but his ability to make trades since Poile retired doesn’t give me much hope.
I mean if you wait til Christmas you might as well just wait til the end of the season, unless he wants to take over himself being afraid Brunette is harming the younger guys. If we aren't close to a playoff spot by then its over, even though history says its pretty much over already.

I really don't understand what the waiting for is though. The only hope you have for this roster is a coaching change, it's the only string you have available to pull before you just call it and blow it all up. If the goal going in was to be competitive this season then he should have been yanking it weeks ago, let alone now.

He still has to waive Parssinen and trade Evangelista for a 2047 4th round pick before he can decide. :sarcasm:

While I'm sure he is learning the GM trade he's been a coach recently enough that he should have realized Fabbro wasn't the problem, the way he was being coached/utilized was the problem. Defensemen are his strong suit FFS. This is just a huge blunder that has no satisfactory explanation

If we dump vets and play young guys, the exiting of Arkarov, Fabbro, and Tomasino highlight Trotz's blunders. Throwing in Eli, all our recent #1 picks will be achieving success for other teams precisely at the point we'll finally be willing to play young players in key spots.

Our approach to breaking in young forwards (playing on the 4th line) is so stupid. They're doing it with Zach now. Zach is more than an energy guy. Give him top 6 minutes. See if he can be a consistent scorer.

If Sullivan of all coaches out there was willing to throw Tomasino on the second line and let him ride, I have no idea what the Preds coaches are doing. I agree that playing them on the 4th in a grinder forcing them to prove they deserve more is the wrong approach. Dallas is the prime example of how to bring along the young guys.

Unfortunately we took the mentality of making our players “earn” their ice time for years which got too many of our players stuck in 4th line roles that they didn’t fit in and could never earn their way out of. I’ve been arguing this about Tomasino in particular for years.

I think I'm kind of on this train now. It would be be a bit of a luxury to land a top 5 pick without tearing down the franchise cornerstones much like in 2013. Fire Bruno after the season and come back fresh next year with more youth after shedding Schenn, Lauzon, Nyquist and others. I know the draft is projected to be a little weaker this year, but I think we still get a franchise altering player if we pick in the top 5. Any of Hagens, Misa, McQueen or Frondell would be the best center prospect we've ever had
