Depending on the interest out there I’d be dangling Georgiev, Chytil, Kravtsov, Hajek…don’t want to sell low but there’s upside there.

I'm still game for someone like Max Domi if he could be had for a very reasonable price (like a 3rd). I'd also be on the lookout for a bottom-pairing d-man at a reasonable cost. Nick Holden is my preference but there may be others.

I feel like the Rangers lockerroom, while improving, is still kind of fragile. Not sure they could easily absorb a Domi. I may be wrong on either or both, he may be a wonderful teammate and/or the lockerroom may be iron-clad. But just something I’d think about.

I'd prefer someone a bit better than Holden.

With that said, we need to see Jones, Robertson, and Schneider get some time and perhaps they can be that player we need without having to give up anything.

I wouldn't go for rentals but if we would, these are my targets:

Phil Kessel
Rickard Rakell
Alexander Radulov

Kessel will 100% be available. Not sure about the other two since they are in it at the moment. Rakell would be my top choice, but the Ducks are in this thing right now.

With all the talk about Gourde, I do wonder if Seattle is out of it what it would cost to get Donskoi. No goals this season, 13 assists, but had 17 goals in 51 games last season. Would slide right onto the line with Zibanejad and Kreider. Let Kakko go back with Panarin and Strome. Two years left on his deal, 3.9 cap hit. If Seattle can eat half of that, you'd be getting a middle 6 forward at basically 2M for this season and next. If it doesn't work, you have a player that you could trade to recoup some of the assets in the summer. Not a bad playoff resume either.

Connor Brown is another target that I would have too. Another guy with 2 year left. Sens are going to be sellers again. I can't see them re-signing him. Can't see them retaining either, so this one would be at 3.6.

Could look at a cheaper rental that won't cost many assets. I think of Hinostroza from Buffalo, put up 40 points one year in Arizona. Probably a mid round pick for him. Would be a pure rental just for the remaining games.

I do not think they should grab anything more than a #7 for defense. Just roll with what you got at this point, just an upgrade over Tinordi.

If CBJ falls out of it completely I think Domi could be a good target. Hard nose guy that can finish. Ideally he'd fit on the Panarin-Strome line. Then drop Hunt down. The question is who comes out of the lineup tho?

A forward or two as pure rentals to upgrade Hunt/Gauthier, and maybe one DMan, however for the later I'm fine with rotating in Jones/Schneider to see how they fair.

As long as the cost is reasonable, that's where I am too. I know our record is exciting, but this is still a team that is four years removed from the playoffs. Now is not the time to empty the tank on rentals.

Wild Bill Karlsson from Vegas. Would give us a legit faceoff guy and would cost little to nothing. Could possibly get a 3rd team ( Buf, Ott, Arizona ) to take on some of his salary.

Wild Bill Karlsson. Would give us a legit power forward with faceoff capability. Would cost little to nothing. Might get Buf, Ott or Arizona to pick up part of salary for a prospect or 2.

Wild Bill in a vacuum would be a fantastic fit for the current roster. There's familiarity with the current coach and the player played his best hockey for that coach.

There are other ways Vegas will look to shed cap before they look to trade Karlsson though.

Think with him being 3rd line center when Eichel comes back VGK would entertain offers to shed that salary.

The romantic in me would love to see Domi, provided he agrees to wear #28. Honestly, I think he fits this team's needs pretty damn well.

Kids on his 3rd team and the verdict is out. He's a one zone player and not exceptional enough in that one zone to overlook the rest of his contributions to a top of the league playoff team.

I loved Tie, but his kid is riding his name only. He should be an AHL All Star like Thomas and Bourque in all honesty.

The 11-12 team was coming off 3 forgettable seasons and were this close to the final. I don't want to comment yet on this teams readiness.
But that team decidedly wasn't ready. They were severely outplayed in two series.

We were quiet at the deadline and that was a saving grace.

It would have sucked to give up assets just for the Devils to treat us like a chew toy.

Yeah, but most teams that buy at the deadline are treated like a chew toy by someone. It's a risk that rarely pays off.

Where would we be without Kreider having the hottest start of his career? Now tell me why I should have faith that this is a Cup team this year, Lafreniere is tied for 3rd in goal scoring and most would agree he hasn't been scoring much. Like i kinda like Kakkos down low work but 3 goals for him in the spot he is in the lineup is not good. Imo until Kakko, Laf and Zibanejad are contributing we aren't going anywhere

Gourde + Mark Giordano (50% retained) for Chytil + Kravtsov + Alexander Georgiev

Too much? Anyways I’d take Gourdes full contract and let Strome go in the off season. Pretty sure it’ll work contract wise. Chytil is meh as well as Georgiev so giving up Krav for both Gourde and Giordano could help for a cup push..

Kreider - Zibanejad - Kakko
Panarin - Strome - Hunt
Lafreniere - Gourde - Gauthier
Reaves - Goodrow - Rooney

Fox - Lindgren
Miller - Trouba
Giordano - Lundkvist

NO
Chytil is 2C core for immediate future +, stop giving him away
No on Strome walk
did we not learn from Ilses letting Tavares walk?
No on giving up blue chips esp elcs we want to add, not subtract
both on general principle and acknowledging reality of need to deal w/cap

We need defense, everyone keeps mentioning forward and while that might be nice we can't go into the playoffs with Nemeth and Nils.
Nils is fine; 111% no to dealing he is only guy on backline with a superior shot.
play Nemeth to accelerate Nils acclimation. Nem has to go by next yr in order to save cap. Hopefully that can happen later this yr. To LA for pick is fine.

Gourde AINEC. I’d let Strome walk in the off-season too.
No on paying assets most of which are not surplus,
no on giving Strome away for free post season
someone pays now.

It would cost a lot. You have to get a package forcing Francis' hand. Chytil, Kravtsov/Lundkvist is a really strong starting point. I wouldn't give up 1st rounders

Rangers are in a rare position. We have a plethora of assets. We need to use them on something. I've been clamoring for it, we need to get 'our guy'. Whoever that is.

for umpteenth time, can not cannibalize young ele core
that thinking has to stop

Too early to think about this. Between now and TDL we'll learn

1. If this team is a serious challenger
2. If Nils settles in
3. If one or more of our young forwards (Kakko, Laf or Chytil) breaks out.
4. Is Shesty healthy and ready for a deep run.
5. Is Mika back to being himself

I'm not planning on moving young talent yet. If the team drops back and it's looks to be more of a "playoff experience" year then hold on to assets.
If they're still right near the top, then yes let's add.

Too much that can happen that would determine what moves to make.

1. If this team is a serious challenger
Yes it already is but winning Cup means close not enuf, need to dominate if possible, hopefully no injuries, and we beat all challengers.
We might win now, we might not.
We don't deal youth which makes us cap complaint now and extends our window. We continue to draft smart and add, and only when we truly have surplus then do we CAREFULLY consider a splurge.

Coupla teams got our # now.
Patience.
Deal excess vets get down to core.
PLAY THOSE GUYS MO MINS which = increased familiarity = better chemistry which ups our game.

2. If Nils settles in
sufficiently there already
continue to make progress = fine

3. If one or more of our young forwards (Kakko, Laf or Chytil) breaks out.
Already have sufficiently done so.
More good stuff to come.
That none of them = MacKinnon level now, get a grip. Slow but steady here.

4. Is Shesty healthy and ready for a deep run.
No one knows who will be healthy when playoffs arrive.
Pure luck.
Surplus depth helps.

5. Is Mika back to being himself
Mika sufficiently fine now,
Next 4 yrs don't even need to think about him
it's how he ages last half of his deal that is a possible concern
howev, we made our bed, for better or worse...

If they are extending Strome, adding him to their other long term commitments, they are going to need as many cheap entry level contracts who may perform above their cap hits as they can get. Trading away picks/prospects which could lead to that feeder system for rentals seems like a bad idea to me.
We can't afford to extend Strome.
PERIOD
every mindset has to bend, buckle and break to that REALITY
Zib + Fox $$ dictates that.
Only way that changes is if Trouba agrees to leave early and that won't happen until MAYBE
MAYBE mid of next season [2023] at earliest
faster we sell Strome w/mo on his contract = larger return

I think we need to replace 2 players
Get the right players and we can make a run
First, Nemeth
He's just awful
I think Nils will be good enough as a 3rd pair RD once playoffs come and we get him a Giordano type partner
Second, Chytil
We need a true 3rd line checking C but can also put up points. Sorry roo and goo just wont do
Barron not ready yet
If we dont upgrade these two then in my mind we r going into the playoffs with the attitude of just getting the kids play-off experience which is fine
However
If that's the case i want to trade strome
As we cant afford him
He'll get 7mil..

No. Chytil's a keeper at least short term
