Clearly this team is "good"

Clearly it is also not "ready"

Don't spend ANY assets to fortify a team that isn't there yet.

I don't think anyone can really say that they're ready or not...

Unless you mean good enough, in which case I agree, they aren't.

But thats also why you make a few moves. The route through the Metro isn't that bad and while they may not be ready to win, being able to win a round or 2 would be beneficial. Not only for experience purposes, but to see who can step up their game when it matters.

Is it that simple? Vegas came out from the block a mishmash of rejects and leftover tacos and nearly took the cup on the first try. Sometimes it feels like its more down to everything clicking, than every player traded is the right one and then we go.

Anyone mentioning Kravstov is kidding themselves

Kid is getting shipped out the moment Drury get an offer he likes for him, might even happen at the deadline for one of these rentals

He's never gonna get an offer he likes until he is back in the NHL.

I'm all in on Gourde w/ retention.

Have a good pitbull middle6 center @2.6M for 4 playoffs?

I agree to a point.

A player like Gourde helps us now and in the future. In this dream scenario there's retention as well... Where he becomes extremely valuable to us

I think its too early for cup aspirations. Next year is the year, maybe we add Othmann, Barron, Schneider, etc to this lineup. I also dont think signing Strome means you stop looking for a center, i think its the perfect time to find a young center ie Lavoie, Hayton etc that wont empty the cupboards in assets, and you either move Strome or Chytil to wing.

How much would Bjorkstrand cost? He's signed through 2025 season. So that would help us out for quite a few years. Perfect RW for Panarin.

I wonder what his value is, would seem to me a lot of teams would find this attractive.

It would cost a lot. You have to get a package forcing Francis' hand. Chytil, Kravtsov/Lundkvist is a really strong starting point. I wouldn't give up 1st rounders

Rangers are in a rare position. We have a plethora of assets. We need to use them on something. I've been clamoring for it, we need to get 'our guy'. Whoever that is.

Getting Gourde would be amazing, but with how bland Seattle's draft was, I doubt they trade anyone.

I like Gourde but i am not sure about that package. I still believe we should be looking for a young center on an entry level deal that fits our timeline better, our hot start isn't indicative of this teams capacity for winning the cup this year. Imo this team isn't ready until Kakko and Lafreniere are 50-60 point players, and 2 of Schneider, Jones, Lundkvist and Robertson are solid members of this team. Imo we just arent ready, we have holes that will be filled when youth become men, i really think we've already added enough "older" "glue" guys this year.

The 11-12 team was coming off 3 forgettable seasons and were this close to the final. I don't want to comment yet on this teams readiness.

If the team continues it’s solid play, we’re certainly going to add at the TDL or before it.
I’d expect to see Drury go big game hunting if possible and if he sees a way to retain the player beyond this season. Whether that means the trading team or or a 3rd team eat some cap did 2 years.
Im positive Drury is keeping a close Eye on both the Larkin and Horvat situations as well as a few others.
Most likely the price for either would probably be too costly and he’s not going to want to pull players off a winning roster while the team is hot and making a playoff run.
I highly doubt Gourde, Reilly, or even Larkin are even available at this point in time.
-Gourde is Seattle’s best center and a key cog in the culture/work ethic they are trying to Create there.
- same goes for Larkin, plus being their captain. As they continue to fall in the standings and with him needing a new deal soon, he might want to go to a winner rather then signing long term to the wings rebuild in his prime years. Offseason move if at all imo.
- Reilly has been Vegas best all around FWD. even with Eichel coming back and then needing cap, they’ll either play the Tampa cap strategy or find a way to move someone else. Doubt Reilly goes anywhere this season.
- JT Miller, No. Bern there, won’t pay the cost to bring him back. Glad he’s developed into a consistent player, but he won’t be a ranger again. That I’m 99% sure of.
-Hertl No
- Lindholm and Cirelli not available.
- Pavelski costs too much for a 37 yr old. Nice player, but not paying 1st plus if he becomes available.
- Copp probably costs too much and needs a new bigger deal as well soon.
- Horvat has a real possibility of being moved this season. He adds a lot to any team. The cost to get him and keep him beyond next year cap wise for us is a real challenge. I’ll go with a 5% chance of him being a ranger by the end of the TDL.

If we got for a big target, it likely will be in the offseason or at Draft.
Some combo of chytil/ Lundkvist/ kravtsov plus draft picks and possibly Nemeth going back to take some cap.

what/who does Drury add this year?
I’d expect a guy like a Lehkonen/Donskoi/ Boyd/ Jarnkrok etc type player. A good versatile guy that can plug in and play in the bottom 9 spots at Fwd if need be. Maybe a outside shot a Kyle Connor.
Something that’s not going to cost a ton but add value to the line up.
Likely assets we trade- some combo of one of our 2nds, our 3rd/4th rd picks, guys like Rennunen etc more B type prospects, maybe Kravtsov.
Drury might also add a Vet D for safety purpose. No one extravagant like Chariot that costs a ton.
Someone like Holden. Journey man vet that can step in and give you honest minutes in case of injury or when he’s needed. A player of that ilk.
Likely only costs a 3rd/4/th pick.
I think the way Geo performers in this injury stretch Or not is the deciding factor If Drury will try to get a more established/ better back up.
I wanted Geo gone long ago, but again if Drury feels the cost is too high, he’ll likely just role with the shesty/Geo pair for the rest of the season....
hopefully he’s a goner at the end of the year.

I'd rather not spend the assets right now thats all. Certainly not a 1st.

That being said, IF there's a deal for someone who isn't a rental that we need, I am all for that.

Yep, true

NYRs great record does mean they are a great team, yet

You guys know this. You watch the games

They have a great record because they have become 'hard to beat'
A major milestone, yes

But let's not race to spend down assets just to make the playoffs or win a round
Let the process play out, and let the prospect depth chart sort itself out

I don’t think Gourde will be available but if he is sure he makes sense

gonna say a ufa like Giroux but it’s going to cost a 1st plus player or another pick

I don’t like the idea of dealing any of the top 10 prospects

Its not that far away but the fact is if the needed assets are not there internally then they need to trade excess assets for a position of need. A solid number 2 center would be ideal. We just don't have that and with Mika being inconsistent it would be beneficial to get one here.

Gourde of course but I would be surprised if Francis dealt him.

Klingberg can also be mentioned. Isolated, from a pure performance POV, I think he heads and shoulders would help us the most during a PO run of all to be UFAs.
