who cares about winning the trade, more interested in winning a cup..........In any deal for Matthews, you wont win but at least you might get some players that will help you stay competitive for a few years. There is always free agency and usually a 30 to 40 guy out there.
I hope that Tre's plan is to get bigger and faster and hopefully keep any 2 of Matty, Nylander and/or Marner. We can resign Jt in a few years at 3 or 4 mil a year.
exactly............I can live with that. Also once the other 2 see he's dealt they may (?) Be more reasonable...If Gretzky can be traded anyone can...I want players that want to be here and play for the team..
I believe teams would jump on the chance to acquire 34, for various reasons.........The Colorado Avalanche won the the Lindros trade. The Calgary Flames won the Joe Nieuwendyk trade (okay both teams won this trade). It's not easy but you need a trading partner with the right talent.
irrelevant who wins the trade, if it makes your team better who really cares..........All correct but as many Joe for Iggy trades, there are 15 Tkachuk for Hubredeau trades. It's very rare you trade an elite player and it becomes a win for both sides. Raycroft for Rask? UGH!

By that logic, Quebec won the Mats Sundin trade.Dallas won that trade because Dallas won the cup
Completely agree, when it comes to fans there is little to no objectivity, they like their boys and if it comes down to losing them to win they’d rather not. I’d say this experiment has run it’s course, all is not lost, and a winning team can be created from out of the ashes of the Dubas era imo. This won’t take a rebuild, it’ll only take 4 or 5 creative trades………..There are likely many young fans who have more attachment to the players than the team.
Winning the Cup is the ultimate goal, but perhaps that comes without winning personal trophies outside the ConnSmythe.
Trades should be steps towards Cup ... that is the ultimate winning of a trade.

For starters, nothing is impossibly, you might lose in “trade value“ on the surface, but achieve your ultimate goal of making your team better. Cliff Fletcher faced this very problem in Calgary, should he trade a can’t lose future superstar in Brett Hull for goalie Whamsley and D man Ramage, parts the team needed to win the cup or stand pat? We he had the stones to knowingly give up a future superstar to win the cup. It takes conviction in what your team lacks to make thise type of decisions and say what you will Fletcher was spot on in that trade assessment………Dallas won that trade because Dallas won the cup
But you can't make a Matthews trade, or even a Marner trade and realistically get better it's impossible.
Assets are only useful if you use them properly, here’s hoping Tre has what it takes to fix this mess……..Dubas didn't build a winner, but he left some great assets.

..... Yep, certainly couldn't do better than a 11 million dollar winger, who only shot from 45' from the net, and didn't actually create any goals, despite being a "playmaker who shouldn't be judged on goals". His goals and assists primarily came 50' from the net and primarily came in the last 20 minutes of blow out games.Dallas won that trade because Dallas won the cup

Nothing’s impossible, but you can’t fix stupid and keep all your shiny toys………..So it's impossible to trade AM, WM, MM so I guess we'll be stuck as playoff failures for the foreseeable future. And somehow that's better
Considering they are overpaid, it will be very hard to improve the team by trading them.Dallas won that trade because Dallas won the cup

The best of them - Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Rielly - were here already. Pretty much all Dubas did was waste five years (and counting) of their prime.Dubas didn't build a winner, but he left some great assets.

Poor guy, 4 players around a PPG, the ability to move 3 of those 4 and only 15+M in cap space with a 111 pt teamI really don't see any moves he can make. Other than move one of the core 4... Maybe move a prospect. Doobus left him handcuffed.
I'm not getting the point of that.Poor guy, 4 players around a PPG, the ability to move 3 of those 4 and only 15+M in cap space with a 111 pt team

Most trades are, especially when centered around good players. The 3 movable contracts are fire sale though.
