Nylander is a 40 goal scorer who will be a UFA in one season. There is no incentive to sign until he sees what Matthews gets, what might be available UFA (Dubas is always out there and Pittsburgh will be desperate for talent). Plus his brother is there as well. I can see Nylander walking.

I 100% expect them to walk if they don’t get overpaid by the Leafs.

Gm 4 2 goal he scored was extremely precious when its matter

Gm 6, scored important 1st goal of the game in a decising game... it was when it counts...

I would like to see leafs using matthews with knies and jarnkrok next season. Knies bring something really interesting tonplay with matthews and using nylander like foirida using reinhart on a 3rd line

Rielly and Schenn were the only guys who met my expectations.

I've said it several times, I think 8*8.8 just has a nice ring to it.
I think he'll want more, but maybe he could say 8.8 is enough and lead the way? ... probably not with marner and Matthews going all in in the first go round.

Caufield on pace is kind of like when Nylander was on pace for near 100 points earlier this year.
Caufield got a great deal for himself never being close to PPG.

Caufield gave up 4 UFA years, so I think the deal was pretty fair for both sides. More security for him, but less money for him should he become the star player they hope he does. Certainly not a joke contract like Dubas hands out to skill players.

When rielly was not on the ice, leafs struggle really hard to create offensive things...

Lack of real number one, you got a goalie whos let a bad goal goes in every game... hard to win low scoring game 1-0, 2-1 or 3-2 in 4th OT...

Thats probably the 2 biggest miss of Dubas era

#1 could help, but, i think we need strong and mean defenders that arent mistake prone more than a 2-way threat. offense from the D is nice, but, we need a D, that can clear the net, and the zone on a regular basis more than have them jump into the play... and then get caught out of position, as we are a very turnover friendly team.

#2 is not true ...LV is using their 4th string goalie right now, and other than TB, the 'best' goalie hasnt won often.

Helly is one of the best goalies, but, a playoff choker.
Sorokin, Shes, all great goalies, but, it hasnt won either team anything, and the Rangers really loaded up for a run.

Woll and Sammy is another year of shoestring budget and hope in the net, which fills me with dread. Hellebucyk is an instant core piece and will bring much needed stability to the most important position on the team. I'm not surprised that Winnipeg is looking to tear down, that team has managed to be more dysfunctional than us, and that's saying a lot.

Landing a goalie like Helly raises my interest level significantly

I can’t point to an instance in Matthews entire hockey life that indicates he’s a winner. Can the Leafs take the chance and pay him 15 million based on what he brings to the team?
If they do, they’ll have to find some inexpensive guys to carry him.

If matthews signs for the rumoured amount 14-15 Marner is gone and that will affect Matthews game and numbers, which in itself should tell you he isnt worth that much.

I don't disagree with this at all.

I've suggested it before, but maybe he's just the Leafs Ovechkin.

Goal scoring maybe but we will see if the longevity lasts , not to mention that Ovi hits like a truck and will make you pay if you mess with him....matthews not so much.
