What should LA do at the deadline?

Would be nice to fleece the leafs again this TDL. But I will settle with a depth veteran D man or forward.

Honestly, they don’t need to do anything.

Which would suck.....for this years team, but I also get the rationale behind it as well....

Depending on how you look at it, they in a no win/no lose situation, they can stand pat and make a strong argument for that, with what they have, wanting to wait and see where everyone stacks up when healthy etc, and they can make a move for a Miller, Chycrun etc, and make a strong argument, that this team played hard to get where it's at, and here's a little help/reward for that....

Both are equally strong arguments.

If you're playing Brown & not fixing one of the biggest issues there is no argument for spending assets at the deadline.

The perfect fit for this team is JT Miller. He is 28 and signed for next year. Good size at 6’1 218 pounds and has sandpaper to his game. Love the fact he plays C and LW. Has almost 80 games of playoff experience. the last three years has been a PPG player.

We have seen the spark Danault brought to this team. Adding another guy that can play the game the right way, inject leadership and enthusiasm will only help the culture in the room.

Blake gets him and we have basically added 3 top 6 forwards in the last 3/4 of a year. All 3 with different but much needed skill sets.

I just feel like a big deadline trade is a mistake at this point in time. Sure you can look into it, but I think where the Kings are at (not winning the cup this year...but building slowly toward that goal), it's not the right time. TDL deals scare me a bit overpayment wise. A smaller trade is ok. But beyond that, i'd prefer to see how this team and these guys respond to the playoff chase and hopefully playoff games. Then in the offseason we address are needs with a major trade or two.

I say I want to stand pat but every time someone brings up JT Miller I have no fight against it. Depending on price, of course.

LOL right? Thats why the reports that surfaced that LA isn't gonna do anything sting just a bit, kinda like nothing to look forward to on the 21st

This is what kills me....not winning the cup this year.....like we all knew they weren't winning the cup in 2012....right?

I mean shit, you have a 31/32 chance of being right, so the odds are definitely not there....but shit, that's every year.

The Athletic published an article today NHL trade deadline 2022: which player or pick each team is most likely to deal

Lisa Dillman, writing the selection for the Kings, unsurprisingly chooses:

Los Angeles Kings: Andreas Athanasiou

At times, Athanasiou has been the odd man out in the Kings’ lineup. Plus, the Kings have to start seeing what they have with their (many) prospects in Ontario. Considering the acquisition cost would be minimal, a team might want to take a low-risk gamble on a player with an undeniable skill set. Consistency is always the issue, but any GM trading for Athanasiou would do so with eyes wide open. — Lisa Dillman

I think he is ok where he is at, and not being signed next year,

I mean seriously...everyone is bitching and moaning about Brown.....and we are at 2nd place in our division, a week into March , FAR FAR FAR FAR exceeding any expectations....

Can he be improved upon, sure....does he have to be...no, what he brings in the room/in practice/ to the kids learning how to be pro's is not something you can just replace.
I’m not a hockey expert but I believe that he is indeed toast. He was never a hockey smarts guy. Brown got by on his hustle and willingness. It’s clear to me that while he’s still willing, he just isn’t capable of doing.
I’d like to see a healthy scratch to give him a chance of recovery.

Experience builds in hockey smarts, so there is a lot of stuff he does, based on experience etc that's small that you won't catch right away, having said that, a night off every once in a while, would definitely not be a bad thing....

But that wasnt the argument that was being presented etc.

My worry is the Kings will stand at the deadline and the off-season. And either a) our prospects will lose value because they’re overrated or stagnating or b) they’ll miss out on good players that are available and the best that’ll be available will be like 3rd line guys.

I don’t want a rental unless it’s for a 3rd or less but at some point you have to move prospects before they lose value. Too many Dmen all around the same age and not enough spots to put them in.

Not really, two of our RHD are playing amazingly in the A, if Spence and Grans can replicate or improve their performances next season. It’ll only validate that they’re legitimate offensive Dman that are ready for the NHL.. which would make them more valuable than they are today and thus reducing the amount of assets we need to give up to acquire whomever.
For our forwards, your point is very valid tho

I'd imagine the fact that he's young and cost controlled at a very reasonable $1.5 million per for the next 2 years has something to do with it as well. Like the player but a bit too rich regardless.
Not sure if you remember what the offer was for Chychrun from the Athletic but now I can see it…
Moore
Kupari
2022 1st rounder
2022 3rd rounder
That proposed offer makes much more sense now

This has already started happening with a few guys who were once viewed as blue chip prospects and now aren't. The value of young players is extremely fluid, and I think people seem to only realize it when it's going in the right direction (Faber, Kaliyev, Spence) and not when it's going in the wrong direction (Kupari, Turcotte).

As you mentioned there is a log-jam at RHD, Doughty, Roy and Durzi at the NHL level and Faber, Spence, Grans and Clarke knocking on the door. Only put Clarke last because he has junior eligibility (whether that is best for his development or not is debatable) but if he's as good as we all expect he should be in the NHL in 23-24.

Forwards is just as big a jam, even if we assume AA and Brown are gone and they don't bring anyone in as a FA that only opens up 2 spots for presumably JAD and Vilardi (since they are waiver eligible). Does anyone see them letting Lizotte go? I certainly don't, he's looked perfect in his role. They could trade Iafallo for a goaltender, but he's another guy that will be fine in a 3rd line role and it's a big question mark expecting a young unproven player to fill his role.
