What should LA do at the deadline?

This has already started happening with a few guys who were once viewed as blue chip prospects and now aren't. The value of young players is extremely fluid, and I think people seem to only realize it when it's going in the right direction (Faber, Kaliyev, Spence) and not when it's going in the wrong direction (Kupari, Turcotte).

As you mentioned there is a log-jam at RHD, Doughty, Roy and Durzi at the NHL level and Faber, Spence, Grans and Clarke knocking on the door. Only put Clarke last because he has junior eligibility (whether that is best for his development or not is debatable) but if he's as good as we all expect he should be in the NHL in 23-24.

Forwards is just as big a jam, even if we assume AA and Brown are gone and they don't bring anyone in as a FA that only opens up 2 spots for presumably JAD and Vilardi (since they are waiver eligible). Does anyone see them letting Lizotte go? I certainly don't, he's looked perfect in his role. They could trade Iafallo for a goaltender, but he's another guy that will be fine in a 3rd line role and it's a big question mark expecting a young unproven player to fill his role.

Off-season no....but mid-season next, it's plausible they trade an Iafallo type, or Moore type....but not this off-season If you can get good assets, aka a young goaltender for Iafallo, do it, and plug in Fagemo, but again, that is mid-season etc.

I'd imagine the fact that he's young and cost controlled at a very reasonable $1.5 million per for the next 2 years has something to do with it as well. Like the player but a bit too rich regardless.
Not sure if you remember what the offer was for Chychrun from the Athletic but now I can see it…
Moore
Kupari
2022 1st rounder

I'm curious to see how Blake handles all of this because he's Scrooge-McDucked himself into a corner with all these assets, we've already seen how 'too many players' affects the roster and the kids' development, and now with plenty of them running out of wavier-eligibility time but seemingly not ready because of the risk-averseness we're going to be likely to get pennies on the dollar for some assets and just flat out waste others.

On the flipside Blake has made good moves/trades for the most part especially lately. So this is the hard part we've all been waiting for--what's your legacy gonna be, Rob?

I can see them just letting Vilardi and JAD come in for AA and Brown next year. While guys like Turcotte Kupari and Clarke will have to be really impressive to force Blakes hand to waive or move a roster player. Im ok with it.
But Im also ok with him packaging a couple prospects, a first, and a depth player to swing for the fences and get a big talent. Hell theres enough assets to land a top dman and forward.
Its not a bad spot for a franchise to be in but it can define what the team becomes. A middle of the road team that can never get out of the first or second round or a true contender.

This is what kills me....not winning the cup this year.....like we all knew they weren't winning the cup in 2012....right?

I mean shit, you have a 31/32 chance of being right, so the odds are definitely not there....but shit, that's every year.

Sure the SC playoffs are wide open compared to other sport leagues and you can ride a hot goalie and team momentum to the Cup in the right circumstances. But please tell me you are not comparing 2012 Kings to the 2022 Kings. I mean night & day.

Even if we made a big deal, I can't see our goaltending holding up for the Cup. Even so, it's simply not worth a huge overpay -- especially when we're not even sure we get into the playoffs. I don't want another 2017 TDL deal being made. But if the value is there (not a crazy TDL overpay) and it's someone with decent youth/term, then i'm all for it. I just think realistically that's an offseason/draft time deal to be made.

Conner is not on the trade market. Boeser quite possibly is.

Conner is obviously regretting not signing a 3-4 year deal, but he got a lot of security at a pretty young age.

And if he was he’d cost a heck of a lot more than Boeser.

I lose my mind when Kings fans talk about the 2012 team like they were an aberration. They underperformed so badly that they got their coach fired. They were thought to be one of the teams on the rise before the season started and were expected to make noise. Once they hired Sutter, they were one of the top teams in the league and one of the highest scoring ones. This team is closer to the 2010-2011 team. Unfortunately, it's the 30+ Anze and Drew and Jonathan that are still leading the team and not the early 20's versions of them..
