What should LA do at the deadline?

I lose my mind when Kings fans talk about the 2012 team like they were an aberration. They underperformed so badly that they got their coach fired. They were thought to be one of the teams on the rise before the season started and were expected to make noise. Once they hired Sutter, they were one of the top teams in the league and one of the highest scoring ones. This team is closer to the 2010-2011 team. Unfortunately, it's the 30+ Anze and Drew and Jonathan that are still leading the team and not the early 20's versions of them..
Not really. Sutter's record was barely better than TM -- until they swindled Columbus out of Carter.

If they are still in it:

Do they upset the chemistry at all?

Target a LHD man-Maybe Chychrun or a guy more like Soucy?

Look to upgrade offense? Where do you insert said forward? First line? Who moves off?

Bring up a prospect?

Just interesting to see what happens.

Obvious thing to me is this:

1st
One of: Byfield, Turcotte or Clark
AA
for
Cholowski

Or -
Maybe AA/Vilardi 2nd for Chiarot.

There's a time to strike.
You've got Kopitar and Danault.
You've got some scoring depth on the Wings.
If you can find a LD... man... This could be a team that wins more than a round.

And if you're getting a Chychrun back? Why the f*** not. That's a trade that pays off for years.
If you're only giving up spare parts for a Chiarot, again, why not? You lose AA this year. Vilardi doesn't seem to figure highly in the plans. And a 2nd? You know the draft odds on a mid-round 2nd?

You don't have that many more kicks at the can with Kopitar.
And if you're trying to win with him, trade him.

Obvious thing to me is F... No!
Never heard of Cholowski, but F him.
AA and Vilardi do not have the same value.
Look I love day drinking and am all for it. Maybe hold off on the white claws and mix in a Fresca for a stretch

Yah. Sorry. Still upset about the Wings trading down from Chychrun and drafting Cholo.

Was going to say

I still think a package like Anderson/Bjornfot, Kupari, Walker, and a 2022 or 2023 1st is the most I’d do.

Since Mayor recent podcast, he said the Kings will probably not do anything, unless it is minor...MEANS prepare for a major deal.

Shocking as this may be...

I completely agree with John on this one and was nodding my head vigorously when I heard him say it.

AND I KNOW STUFF!

EDIT : To be perfectly clear...

I haven't heard anything SPECIFICALLY from anyone that actually makes decisions BUT I work for the team blah blah blah I talk to people and hear stuff blah blah blah the impression I get is to trust Hoven on this one.

This is another Hoven take that isn't a hot take at all but some on here will run to the board on TDL day and say "Just like Hoven said!!!"

A major trade would be shocking. A major deal would also most likely not be for a rental which also limits the available player pool, making such a deal more difficult to complete.

I do think there is interest in Chychrun but I can't see Blake doing an "Eichel-like return" for him. The first time Blake trades anything of value in a non-fire sale situation will be the first time he does it. He is not going to be second-guessed by many people if he stands pat but he'll be roasted if he gives up promising youth and they get bounced in Round 1 anyways.

I've compared it to the Modin/Halpern trade deadline. That team didn't have as much veteran experience so DL added some experience. This team's 1C/1D and 1A/B goalie have all been there. Danault was just there last season. RV has been to the SCF. *Maybe* there is a better fit for a winger on the third line but a little tinkering doesn't seem necessary and the idea of bringing in more playoff experience doesn't seem necessary for this squad. Lombardi didn't want to mortgage anything for that team and waited until the next TDL to move a 1st round pick and former first rounder for a proven NHL player with some term.

I think Blake would make a "hockey deal" but those are tougher to come by at the TDL. The Kings would fall in the buyer camp due to their place in the standings but what they have to sell could be far more valuable than what they could get. At some point, Blake is going to have to move some of these prospects and get out in front of them not fulfilling potential before it is obvious to everyone else but that seems like a tough one to pull off at the TDL.

Like it or not, Kopitar’s our leading scorer, Drew’s our best defenseman, and Quick’s probably our starter game one of the playoffs. Brown sucks fat chode of course, but here we are. They are leading the team. It just so happens that other players have stepped up big time too: Danault, Arvidsson, Kempe, Moore, Lizotte, Lemieux, Durzi. I’ll even give a shout out to Maatta and Athanasiou who have played great hockey recently. No complaints really.

Special shout out to Kaliyev too for being a pretty complete player much sooner than expected.

I would argue that Danault, Lizotte, Doughty, and Durzi are leading this team.
You're free to argue that, but Kopitar has 20 more points than Danault (who I absolutely love) and that's been basically the constant since he was on the team. No one puts up near the points he does and, as much as people say "yeah but he's not a LEADER", no one's performed at his level.

Regardless, if the folks you mentioned are actually the leaders, the team still isn't close to a cup.
