Not so moved by any of the LHD defensemen out there, in terms of supposed cost, or fit.

The idea of trying to get one of the premiere forwards would not be a bad idea, if you consider
that offense is the best defense....and consider the Kings are at the same place, point-wise, as last year...
to add to their current strength.
I am not a proponent of 'adding the piece' needed, that you must be close to a cup run and
only go for a top piece, based on how close you could be. You add pieces perpetually!

What if Horvat could be acquired? The Kings offense would be pretty formidable.
The AVS were largely dominant, by being able to roll out MacKinon, Landeskog, Rantanen, Nichushkin,
Burakovsky, Kadri...and even add Lehkonen (very underrated player and had 8 playoff goals) with Makar leading the backend and team with 29 playoff points.

Consider any team trying to stop this offense, would have lots to deal with, on their hands.

Byfield Kopitar Kempe
Fiala Horvat Vilardi
Moore Danault Arvidsson
Iafallo Lizotte JAD

Consider that Byfield is getting better every game. By April, he may be close to becoming
another level higher. He could have 12 goals, 25 assists by the end of the year.
Those 3 lines would be amongst the best in the NHL, period.

So, Fagemo, Kupari, Turcotte, Lemieux and Kaliyev are not even on the list and 2 of them could be dealt for Horvat, plus a pick, if he signs? Only do the deal, if he signs. (maybe Tocchet would want tough guy Lemieux) The rate Kopitar is now scoring, could have a 45-50 goal scorer, Horvat, Kempe 35 goals, Fiala 30 goals, Kopitar a possible 30 goals. (Byfield alone gives him 3+ scoring chances a game and Kopi is shooting the puck!!)
I love Kupari, Turcotte and Kaliyev. I am not advocating doing this. Merely saying, this team could rolll over any team - PROVIDED the Kings got good goaltending and PK can get better. Winning a cup takes massive effort, some luck, solid goaltending and not having injuries.

I don't think it would be possible to have a 4+ million Iafallo and Moore to be able to sign Horvat, so one of them could go to Van. Danault would not be so happy as 3C and paying him that much to be that.
Not saying this is a fit or ideal. Just a post. lol. Also consider Pinelli, Lafferiere and Chromiak as rising fast.
There's a lot of assets. Does not mean you start moving them now. But it's better that many are rising. You still cannot count out Madden and Thomas, for that matter. But they are being passed, atm.

I agree it allows him to get more time, but if you have line of say Fiala/Byfield/Vilardi, that line should still be getting a lot of minutes. The Kings have enough depth at forward to roll the lines more evenly.

Him being on the 1st line has nothing to do with PP time or learning to play the game faster.
But it won’t get the minutes because Todd will probably double shift Kopi and throw Fiala there. At least this guarantees Byfield gets top line minutes and learns from one of the best two way players.
I do agree that Lizotte at 3C needs to be improved but that can wait, I rather see what that kid line can do and who in knows maybe Turcotte gives us something until the rest of the guys rejoin.
We haven’t talked about this yet but I think it was 1-2 years ago where Trevor centered a line for team USA and they looked really good. Maybe that can be something they look at(they won’t). This team has a very versatile group of forwards that can play multiple positions, maybe it’s time they explore the possibilities…. (Again, I don’t think Todd would but he’d be wise to)

Last years big add was Stetcher and that was to a solid playoff looking team with a ton of injuries at D.

I doubt an improvement this year will be a game changer. I’m expecting some middle ground between Modin and Halpern or Parrish and Sopel. Probably more futures than are worth it for a first round fizzler.

Horvat is going to want $9M plus, don't see how he fits in under the cap there.
If LA is going full bananas for forwards the time to do that is after Kopitar's deal is up (lots of UFAs that summer) .
Colorado also had deep 1-6 on D to go with their forward depth last year
so even in fantasy I cannot squint to see it

I doubt an everyday D gets shipped out as no one is taking Walker at full salary IMO. And there are no easy demotion candidates on D. But there are at forward.

My best guess is Martin and Aho from NYI for JAD and Toby.

The Canucks are supposedly looking to move Demko. We should be all over this . He only 27 and from So Cal .
Word on the street is that his hips arent going to last, I hesitate to cough up all the assets necessary for his acquistion when the medical facts are unclear. Last thing any of us want, Blake especially, is another expensive G who craps out.

are deals still "pending physicals"?

Demko would be a great get if he 1)were available 2) what you say is false

Horvat is a good 2C having a bonanza season right before UFA.
Let's not make the same mistake Calgary did and get over our skiis here.

Yes deals are still pending physicals AFAIK. You can easily pass a physical today and experience degeneration tomorrow and every day thereafter. Just passing along the info I have on him. Consider the messenger well shot.
I like the guy dont get me wrong, I just have some questions.

didn't mean to shoot the messenger, just had not heard that anywhere...which does not make it false by any means.

"the next cory schneider" really rubs me the wrong way, i felt like schneider was holding some pretty awful devils teams together for a number of years there post-cup final appearance

not every goalie gets to stay in the show until they're 40

Seems the reference was more to their bodies both falling apart. We’ve already got one of those in Quick. And one whose brain is falling apart in Petersen.

yeah, i agree, it's just kinda.. i don't think he really fell apart so much as he just got miles on him

perspective thing i guess

i agree though we shouldn't be investing in a question mark like that

If the Kings traded for McCabe, I would like to see this for the remainder of the season:

Anderson-Doughty
Bjornfot-Roy
McCabe-Durzi/Spence
Edler

It's a reasonable move. Meaning not overly expensive, and it gives us a vet LHD for this season and the next two seasons after.

Each "kid" (Bjornfot/Durzi/Spence) is paired with a quality vet defender (Roy/McCabe), and everybody is on their correct side.

Edler will be gone after this year, so a replacement/upgrade is needed there. McCAbe fits the bill.

Walker played well and is trending up.
Pretty normal for a guy still building after a major surgery.
Doesn't change the numbers of RHD and LHD.
However Durzi is playing better defensively as well.
As I mentioned previously, in addition to LHD the need for toughness, deterrent types is even more obvious.
The needs for goaltenders has been completely exposed.
If I am Blake, I keep doing what he has been doing.
Remain ultra selective about getting winning deals for long term players or give up guys you are looking to unload and or late round picks for solid middle of the pack guys with the upside you are looking for short term.

Are you aware that they expect 1st rounder + in return for McCabe?
