I don't know if Doughty being out was why all they did last year was get a cheap body to replace Doughty on the roster, but all they did last year was get a cheap body to replace Doughty on the roster, because they had the same situation last year that they have this year; too many bodies everywhere. Assuming general health, there's not an actual hole anywhere. Want of an upgrade in places, sure, but no let's trade a pick for a guy scenarios.

Teams in the playoffs also don't generally trade from the current roster. They'd have to to get Chychrun at the deadline, just from a 23 man roster/waivers issue. Certainly not just to dump guys though. Walker has to go to open up space. In the summer, yes, but not as you're closing in on the playoffs where you'll likely need the more immediate depth.

Just doesn't seem like Blake is pressing for anything. He's doing the stuff you do to maximize cap space, "in case" something were to present itself, but assuming they make it, I think he's OK waiting to see what happens in the 1st rd. If they go out early again, try and figure out an upgrade at the draft. Get to the 2nd rd, still might need an upgrade, but again, that's late June/early July stuff.

Ideally, bigger and meaner, but, it has to make sense from a cap, roster, and other team perspective.

I think the only move for the TDL is the LHD spot. Personally I think a physical D is the option but only if there is an additional 2 years of control because of the assets it will cost. Thats because whilst it’s possible we could go deep, it’s not probable so they need think mid term. I suspect goaltending will be the summer task. That’s what I think is most likely. Needs to be a #4/5 physical guy as we don’t need an offensive guy, especially one that needs mostly OZ starts. This allows us to use Durzi properly so improves 2 positions on the roster.

I’d still like to see Björnfot get a shot at that role (and bring in LHD in the post season) but unless there are injuries I think that’s unlikely. So then next year Björnfot replaces Edlers spot and they sort of the right hand side of D. The forwards need nothing now and the picture there changes by the play-offs.

I think the key is clearing space. If you can't find any key LD worth trading for at the deadline, then you need to move some bodies and promote. We literally have Bjornfot and Moverare internally which are natural LDs that can play stay-at-home roles that are being stagnated because we are flush with RDs that we are afraid to lose or bury.

I wonder if the trip to Finland Stoll is leaving for (today or tomorrow) has more to do with what he stated,
which was "to see Aatu Jamsen, Kasper Simontaival and Otto Salin" and certainly speak with them. But if there is more to that, which could be to scout some unsigned players there - LHD and or goalies, to target to sign.

Kind of like how they were watching Oscar Fattenberg a few years and then decided to talk with him about signing and coming over. Yannetti had mentioned they were watching him a few years and were not sure he had the jam or footspeed or strength? (one or more things) and then they felt he raised his game in those areas and
signed him.

I think they would trust Stoll to make observations, more than the amateur scouts there; or at least be a second set of eyes. Maybe Ruutu has a few he's been watching and the Kings decided to send Stoll....I mean, why send him there to just check on Jamsen, Simontaival, Salin? It could be, but I suspect it could be more than that,
It's not like any of those 3 are ready to turn pro. Jamsen is having a good year there.

Fatenberg was not that bad and had that 40 minute playoff game vs Vegas in 2018. That was crazy. He played
pretty well, but was obviously not good enough to sign longterm. I bet with the GREAT NEED in the org
for LHD and goaltending in the system, coupled with crappy trade market for those needs, they probably
have been upping their monitoring of Euros they could sign. Why not? Cheaper contracts too, to sign one.
Their seasons end in March, I believe, for that matter.

The euro scouts will have reports and recommendations on both signed and unsigned. They will take Stoll around for a first hand look, as well. Then he will report back to Blake and they will conference on anyone they may wish to pick up instead of someone in america for this season and the future as well.

Reason says that the Kings should upgrade LHD and possibly acquire a goalie...but way out in left field says
if the market is selling top tier forwards, why not consider that?

The NHL landscape and play has changed and scoring is way up. The Kings success this year is not their long staple of goaltending and defense. The Kings are winning with offense. Why not acquire 1 more top tier forward and see if that can further propel them? It's like Edmonton won in the 80s, with an unbeatable oiffense and Fuhr / Ranford being good enough to win....their defense was not great. They didn't need a great defense. Scoring
was ungodly back then and today's upsurge in offense is not on that level, but up, league wide.

I know the Kings had interest in Bertuzzi and Konecny in the recent past. What if the Kings could get Kane or
a top scoring wing? I suppose 3C, for that matter. Todd has said "so teams have to decide who covers Kopitar's line and Danault's....but then who covers the third line, with Fiala and Vilardi? It's true. If you have 3 lines that can score and all performing optimly, that's hard to beat. Now add a Patrick Kane
in the top. The King's PP has been pretty potent the past month....think if it added 1 more piece and became about 27% level?

I'm not saying this would be my plan, but who could have predicted what has happened and Copley leading the way in goal. I am against trading QB, Kaliyev, Vilardi, Clarke and even Spence. I am not sure if a #1 2023, Pinelli, Grans, etc could get a top forward, but perhaps. There would have to be some cap retained. I like both Moore and Iafallo, but 1 of them could be moved, along with Walker and there's apx 6.5 million.

The Kings could ice a top 5 offensive team. Look at the Avalanche. They lost Kadri, Burakovsky and Nichuskin to injuries and cannot replace that or get into a playoff spot. (Lost MacKinnon for a month) They won, largely because of such a deep offense. Not saying the Kings are 21-22 Colorado by a longshot....just saying
a top, potent offense may be a path. To even getting to the Finals. Takes luck and to be injury free. I would only
worry about facing the Eastern winner.

Just saying I would not be shocked to see a forward acquisiton.

jeez sending stoll to finland in the middle of january? brutal
That's one reason why it seems strange...to go watch Jamsen, Simontaival and Salin? It's not like any of them are ready (or good enough atm) to sign. Salin is the dreaded RHD for that matter...If Stoll goes to work with them, seems weird to go now. I hope they have

Stoll could be going to see them, their teammates, or their opponents. There could be an undrafted goalie, or LD that they could be looking to sign or try to bring to camp. Someone for the upcoming draft, or a prospect that they could be looking at to trade for.

I wouldn't doubt that they have homed in on a couple guys that they may try to sign. They send Stolly (the guy with cups, and is on TV and has a big-name wife) to go and sell someone on the LA lifestyle and try to sign them.

He's going there to help smuggle Kirsanov out of Russia.
I wish. Didn't Kirsanov sign another contract there?

Organization low on LHD, after Bjornfot and Moverare.
Ben Meehan seems to be putting up good numbers and has had good camp reports.
Then again, it was looking like Cole Hults was going to be a good one and that didn't happen.

my name is an actual name but then I am not too concerned about people knowing my name for obvious reasons.
I think we should make a move or two and grab as many picks as we can for the coming draft. Fill the holes with our over talented kids and take the next step forward. But that is just me.

That or how to mule the "Party Favors" to the Vegas pool.

How Stoll has a job with the Kings is beyond me.

How would this anger:

AZ offers 3 first rounders and a prospect for 50% retained Erik Karlsson. AZ trades EK to LA for 30% retained for Lias Andersson, Durzi, Walker, a prospect and 2 first rounders.

That would sure piss off the yotes faithful, they are getting honed, our firsts arent worth as much as theirs to start with.

I wouldnt move two firsts and durzi for Karlsson anyway. Great player but how long for.

OK, I changed my mind. If the Isles keep losing, I would offer something like next year's first, Turcotte, one of Kupari/Fagemo and one of Durzi/Spence for Sorokin. Probably wouldn't get it done, but I'd start with that.

You think it’s not common place? I’m not condoning it but a significant % of the league players and staff will indulge in similar fashion. The only difference is that he got caught. His reputation took a huge hit and he seems to be doing a good job moving forward. I’m not going to hammer a guy for what was one mistake, that we know about.

We also do not play a system that uses 4 forwards which is why his numbers are so high. Zero chance it continues if he played for us.

I thought we were supposed to be looking for a new coach? Trotz still available?
Yes, but he's not ready to coach till next season. I loved Trotz as a Caps fan for winning a Cup, but if the Kings were to hire Trotz, it would be Sutter Hockey all over again. That means the offense will suffer. Trotz also leans on veterans over developing young players. Bruce Boudreau would be a better coach to bring in if they want to make a coaching change. Boudreau is a players coach, he works well with both vets and rookies/younger players and he gets the most out of his players. I'm not sure TMac probably stays unless the Kings can't win any playoff series within the next 2 years including this one.
