I think most will agree that he improved the team's offense; but he also ignored some very real problems that are pulling the other direction and causing the team to flatline/tread water rather than improve.

I guess the really scary thought is what if he HADN'T made the Fiala trade?

Wholeheartedly agree, but some parts nobody saw coming.

Blake made some good decisions which we need to give credit for.

Adding a PPG gamebreaker like Fiala was a stroke of genius, costs and all considered.

Full credit to Blake for not trading or waiving Vilardi. Good contract value for Durzi and Anderson.

Nobody saw Peterson taking this level of a step back like this. I feel we all agree Peterson is fully responsible here and not many teams could have an easy solution if the #1 went down like this. Blake did try to get back into the first round to draft Wallstedt. The draft show I watched even had the commentators talking how Blake was running around trying to move up. He tried.

On the flipside, the LHD problem was an issue entering the summer, along with coaching.

Why Bjornfot has been sitting while Edler plays isn't on Blake, but TMac.
Why our best youth sat in game 7 is not on Blake, but TMac.

Arizona wanted one hell of a haul for Chychrun (probably 1st + Clarke + Turcotte) and don't see Blake doing that trade. If Blake offered a 2nd for Soucey in the offseason, that might have been good but we already traded a 1st + for Fiala.

We all read about the 'we should have traded/waived Walker!'. But last year we went through a hurricane of defensive injuries. Blake might be keeping that in mind and trying to preserve our depth. Not defending it but just trying to show a point of view.

I think my biggest issues stem from his handling of the unforseen though.

Sure, I was a big Cal proponent and surely didn't see him totally crapping out. Similarly, I thought Edler had more to offer.

HOWEVER--the entire goaltending and LHD pipelines are totally bereft. It's not Petersen or Edler alone that are the issues. I said before the season we were already one injury away from Villalta being shoved into a major role with almost nothing behind him. THAT is on Blake. Re: the LHDs--if they didn't believe in Bjornfot and Moverare than Blake needed to do more than push all his chips in with Edler, even if it's a stopgap LHD, because surely they weren't counting on Edler at 2LHD.

Other GMs have at least a goaltending pipeline/blue chipper that could start to take some games, or a prospect LHD that could slot in on lower pairs, but here we are treading water on those issues years later, AND with no help arriving from the system.

Blake is doing the right thing, doing nothing.
This team is going nowhere the next 2 years and there is no reason waste assets.
It absolutely doesn't matter who is the Goalie and i would prefer Petersen back in goal since Copley
wins all the unnecessary games.

If any, Blake should give Copley a 2 year deal because he is the one that keeps the Kings in the game.
That's about it
Keeping a winning culture is important for the younger players and Kopitar and Doughty aren't getting any younger and they will lose some of the winning culture when Quick goes.

LA has 8 RHD playing and prospects, how many can make the team over the next 6 years? One, two, maybe three? And they all get raises during that time.

Demko not playing now could be more about wanting out. Like I posted these Demko's preference to play in southern Cal and especially to LA whispers have been around since before this season started even into last year.

If LA passes and he signs with SJ or even Anaheim although the latter is doubtful he comes back to haunt LA for not doing it.

I don't think outside fans realize just how good he has been in Vancouver, stealing maybe 8/9 games a year, games where the team was out shot over two to one.

At a bargain price of some players that might not be on the team he has value beyond the price if he plays his normal game.

I'll be surprised to see them be real active this TDL. Maybe a Stecher type move, but nothing major.

In their situation, it may be better to let it play out This season and make the necessary moves in the offseason.

Not interested in the finger pointing and blame game. The team is actually doing alright despite the goaltending and LHD issues. There's warts, but most teams have em.

I'm curious to see how this team performs down the stretch. How they play and who steps ups or takes a step back interests me. I'm hoping they make the playoffs, but Hope is not a strategy and that was the problem last offseason.

Can you please stop your used car sale pitch for Demko?
I think you already repeating yourself.

#1 2023, #1 2024, Walker, Pinelli, Petersen
to Yotes
Chychrun, Vejmelka, #2 2023 (apx #37 overall)

Before you lose your stuff, the Yotes are not giving these 2 away and
probably wouldn't do this, so don't worry.
Getting their #2 2023, only drops the Kings first selection in the
2023 draft, about 17 spots. (Kings may pick around #20 OA)
Would solve LHD and Goalie and help the cap. Be able to
move Durzi to RHD too.Yannetti does better in round 2 anyway, honestly
Would have picks (apx) 37 and 52 in round 2.

I think problems with the goaltending situation were somewhat foreseeable. I actually posted about it in the offseason, but since HFboard's search function no longer works I can't dig it up.

Petersen was bad last season, and had gotten worse every year.
Quick is 37 and hasn't played a full season in forever.

Very risky going into a season with that being your goaltending situation.

Kings would be losing out on two more firsts after trading last year's too.

Adding to it, if it were Quick-Petersen-Wallsteadt, you can stomach that

But Quick-Peterson-Copley-Villalta had us exactly where I pegged us, relying on Copley to save the season...i just didn't think he could do it. It's very telling that below-average goaltedning is 'enough' at this point.

Im not happy about being right about this, it's just an illustration of how forseeable this situation was. I'm not frequently correct.

When Blake took over in 2017 he signed Petersen.

Aside from that, he hasn't shown much interest in trying to get a high end goalie prospect(s) in the system.

6 drafts since he's been here and we have nothing in the pipeline for goalies.

The G pipeline has been nonexistent for a long time. Who wants to have zero shot while Quick was here for all those years? I also understand that goalies are the least expensive to acquire of all the positions, just have to figure out a way to get it done.

Copley + for Varly at the deadline.

If he plays well sign him in the Summer for two years to back-up trade acquisition Juuse Saros.

Saros/Varlamov for two seasons and then when his contract is up hopefully our top tier drafted goaltending prospect will be ready to go. Boom.
