What exactly does Reaves do?

He probably spends the next month or two considering if he wants to ride the bus in the AHL for 3 years for 4m when he has 17m in career earnings already.

He sure doesn't do anything on the ice. It's not his fault that this team is butter soft, he can't singlehandedly change the leadership culture. And if somehow he can, he should be doing that from the press box as a consultant rather than as a goals against machine.

His contact is 100% burriable, correct? What are the reasons/logistics that it can be?
Not quite, it’s the NHL minimum salary ($750K this year) + $375K. So $1.125 mil, while Reaves is making $1.35 mil. He’d still consume $225K of cap in the minors.

Waiving him is the right call though, he’s a massive liability on the ice. Probably the only reason we haven’t done it yet is it’d make Brad look like an idiot to waive one of his first signings so quickly.

The more you think about it the more you wonder: why the hell did we sign him for anything more than the league minimum? Why did we sign him for multiple years?

this signing really shows Poor judgement and planning by our GM.

JUST BRUTAL.

he already looks like an idiot so it can’t be that.

I think it's obvious the answer to the thread question is: "Concedes goals against."

How does he have a GF% of 0% after 14 games? lol.

Obviously not every goal against that he's on for is his fault, but he is obviously a detriment to this team. Please find a solution ASAP.

Logical reasoning says that if Reaves is getting term at 36 years of age, his reputation of boosting morale and making his team mates mentally stronger is proven. This can't be seen on the ice.

Also, the GA issue has nothing to do with morale. There's no amount of morale in the universe that could have offset the goaltending we got so far.

Anyway, the number 1 complaint in our playoff losses is being mentally weak. He gave a taste of what we should expect once the playoffs come around. This guy was the favorite player here after 2 games.

He's 36, he can't do that for 82 regular season games. He's gonna suck. You gotta stomach it.

Reeves will be 37 in Jan and will not get any better at skating …hockey IQ or shooting the puck

so he can fight….which happens rarely. Hasn’t provided protection….or any ability to keep the other team from scoring

So basically he is a cheerleader taking up a roster spot. Nothing more. Sure he may yap from the bench but players laugh at him because they know he is useless on the ice.

Maybe when the rules change in playoffs he can be more productive as the refs let interference and clutch and grab to occur and that benefits goons like Reese who have no skills.

Nobody takes the "cheer leader" aspect of the game seriously until they're crying over another playoff loss in the summer, screaming about playing mentally weak.

Our forwards are stacked and dominating games. We can afford the 12th forward being useless right now.

Worry about the goalies and D

The Leafs softness rubbed off of him. He was good in the first couple games.

Bertuzzi, Domi also showing 0 bite.
Or maybe these players just aren’t as tough as twitter clips and highlights show when you get to watch them game after game shift after shift ot really opens your eyes as to how fraudulent the whole “tough guy” act is in hockey.

He’s a large reason why they’re butter soft. If your muscle can’t or won’t engage and literally is a liability on the ice in every other aspect then he’s a large issue.

he gets scored on at a rate that’s worse than a league bottom PK when on the ice. It’s hot that he’s useless he’s actually worse than that and an actual hinderance and liability that costs the team goals and points.

He's heading to get the Matt Martin treatment sooner than expected.

The next time he plays he's going to need to really have an impact game or else things may get ugly

This was definitely the most egregious part of the contract when it was signed - you simply can't sign a 36 year old who's always been terrible to a contract that's not fully buriable - but given the situation we're in now, this is an absolute no brainer.

The $225k in dead cap stings a fair bit given how tight we are to the cap; but on the flipside, the $375k we open up, PLUS getting an actual usable body like McMann in the lineup, gives some much needed flexibility.

I think he'd still welcome the extra few mil and there's no need for him to ride the buses . He seems like a good guy with a big personality (but in a good way) so he can go down and be a part time player and help mentor the kids to understand that not everyone can be a star at the next level but if you can find a role and make yourself useful you can still have a long career .
