And yet we kept Gregor? He was awful in camp, zero jam, no urgency. All I’m saying, it wasn’t Reaves that cost him, he was beat out by a PTO. We could have kept Lafferty and not signed Gregor, right, this idea it’s all Reaves is flawed.

I’d waive Reaves, people want to make a big deal out of it, it’s a minor move. Bury the contract, it’s 200 grand, a minor gaffe.

I wonder if both Keefe and Tre were aligned on that decision or if one of them convinced the other?

And let him take the new boombox with him.

The issue with Reaves has never been the caphit, which obviously is less than ideal, it's the fact he's going to consistently take up a roster spot

Tre isn't going to put him on waivers until it becomes overwhelmingly obvious that he doesn't belong.

It wasn't obvious enough this entire time?

Im the opposite let him stay under minutes a game. Brodie , Marner they’ve all made bad plays that have costed games lots. let him get back in the line up.

He's a bit past his prime, but what he does is add some toughness and grit to a fairly soft team. Kadri was traded and that was a mistake in my opinion because he's younger and has more of a scoring touch and is a tough gritty player.

They should play him keep him under 5 minutes like the post above said Marner and Brodie have costed the team wins with careless giveaways .

It was a bad contract for a enforcer that is useless because he can’t skate and has hands of stone.

Now we hear he has wonky knees and more questions being asked about why such a long contract.

Maybe when the rules change in playoffs when it allows goons like this to thrive because refs turn a blind eye to interference and crosschecks maybe Reaves will actually contribute something.

Everyone complained we needed more grit….here is Reaves as a Don Cherry poster boy. :)

So far our new GM biggest add is Benoit and hopefully we can resign him.

I did want a guy like Reaves on this team, but I did not know how cooked he was as a player. Neither did Treliving. As pathetic as it is, our guys have next to 0 respect around the league. They needed a bodyguard. So other players think a little longer before doing disrespectful shit like Gudas did to our rookie goalie.

I haven’t spoken to a single person who understands the term. It’s one of the few things Leaf fans agree unanimously on, why 3 years?!

You have to wonder if Keefe and Treliving have the same game plan?

The Maple Leafs signed the 37-year-old Reaves to a three-year contract worth $4.05 million. The contract will put the enforcer into his 40s by the time the contract expires.

Treliving said the third year was necessary in order to pry him from Minnesota.

"At the end of the day you’d like them all short (term) but at the end of the day you want to get the players," Toronto's GM said. "They wanted him to stay in Minnesota and he was given an opportunity to speak to teams earlier. And we were able to talk to him and work out a deal. We felt like we had to go where we had to get Ryan on board."

Reaves is so great in the room! Especially when he's giving interviews trying to embarrass the franchise after they overpaid him! Character guy.

At least Simmonds and Clifford were always good soldiers and class acts. Get this clown out of here. He'll be waived at some point and we'll just have his unburiable amount on the cap for the next 2.5 years as a reminder of this mistake. Which any rational person knew was a mistake from the start, despite Brad and some here arguing otherwise.

I don't think folks would like me saying this but IMHO Keefe has no clue how to deploy the troops so to speak and provide roles to players so everyone is engaged in the game and doesn't feel left out.

Reaves signing IMO wasn't bad; Keefe should have known how to deploy the 4th line correctly and potentially even give a couple shifts here and there to Reaves in the top 6 if the core4 were being manhandled.

Keefe's inability to run the bench optimally is the main culprit here

The impact is not huge, but not nothing on a capped out team.

The more important concern is process that got them there. The result is not hugely significant, but signing a 37 year old enforcer with jello knees to a 3-year contract well above league minimum, as priority #1 20 minutes into free agency, raises a lot of questions about the process.

Well reaves or Perry at league minimum lol
I thought I heard that after the first season we can just bury him in the mealies or something and he just goes away?!

He's got a big mouth, so I'm not sure he would go away quietly.
