Dubas did everything expected of him this summer - got some physicality, upgraded majorly defensively. I don't see how any of the blame can be anything other than a lack of production from Matthews & Marner. What do you do about that? We had good secondary scoring this series IMO.
Dubas needs to go as does his boss. Him and his fake glasses. Lou should have stayed.
We needed young bulls and he brought in old fools. He built this team. His changes, his coach. He is a guy who thinks he is right no matter what. He is wrong. I hated the hire from day one and hate it more then ever.

I don't love Dubas by any means but he created what was the best Leafs team on the paper for all the Thornotn on PP, top line scoring 1 goal in 7 games; he can not be blamed. Our drafting has been lights out, overseas players are willing to sign with the team.
Dubas has been GM for 3 drafts and Sandin was the only player he drafted playing tonight. And he was only playing because of injury. That's not lights out! But if you consider Lou Lam getting Matthews, Marner and Nylander then yes it's much better.

Read the entire post, we’re a combo of all those things I mentioned , not just a single one . Way to pick and choose
The answer to a lot of those questions is yes. Tampa didn't blow a lead, they did fail to score like us. Want to talk about stars going missing, Kuch got suspended, Hedman got walked for 2 huge goals, and the rest of the talent didn't score.

Hockey is a wild sport and things can change real quick. Tough to see after a loss like tonight, but some perspective is needed.

We have Sandin, Robertson, Amirov. All are young but showing signs of being more than just NHL players. To be able to draft like that is indeed lights out.

This is not a small failure. This team has never won a playoff series under Shanahan. Some losses were understandable yet disappointing to Washington and twice to Boston but those teams were the favourites. These last two seasons with supposedly mature young stars were disastrous losses to marginal NHL teams. It's supposed to be a competitive industry. Failure is supposed to have consequences. The clock is ticking on those contracts. Auston Matthews only has 3 years left until unrestricted free agency.

New president, new gm, new coach.

A new president who hires a new GM who has been working in the NHL for a decade and who played pro hockey. He needs plenty of contacts in the league and an understanding that he isn't re-inviting the wheel. No spreadsheet scouting types, no lawyers, no former player agents. The new GM can keep the coach or hire a new one.

First change:

Nylander first line. Move Marner back with JT (if hes still here ) and let him lead the PK1. First line and PP1 belongs to matthews/nylander. Nylanders lower body strength is better suited for Matthews line in playoffs.
I do think this is the correct move IF they bring in a playmaking LW for that top line.

Playmaker (Gaudreau?) -Matthews-Nylander

I believe the issue with having only one true shooter with Matthews is the opposition always knows where the shot is coming from whereas a Nylander-Matthews combo gives it a 50/50 chance coming from either side. Nylanders speed also creates a ton of room for Matty while keeping the attention on him instead of Matthews.

Hyman-Tavares-Marner

would run into the same issue but would face inferior secondary coverage and could minimize the oppositions effectiveness OR just replace Hyman with a legit scoring threat.

Lol fake glasses.
Reminds me of Homer

Doesn't make sense to have Matthews, Eichel and Tavares. If you trade Marner for Eichel, then you need to trade Tavares or Matthews too. Obviously get way more return for Matthews....

Or Eichel could just play the wing....

This isn’t football lmao players can play other positions

Turns out Nylander is the only world talent on the team. I expect he gets traded. Don’t know what is wrong with this team; Matthews, Marner, Nylander probably lead their respective nations in scoring in the Olympics but put them on the leafs and instant suck.

The Leafs need to...

1. Trade one of the Big 4 forwards for a top pairing defenseman. Matthews should be the only untouchable unless something outlandish is on the table. But we need a balanced lineup with a high-end minute muncher on the blue line who can run a powerplay. Seth Jones should be the obvious target.

2. End the Keefe experiment and bring in a coach with NHL chops and a successful resume. If Dubas refuses...

3. Fire Dubas. If Shanahan refuses...

4. Fire Shanahan.

His "draft genius" tag is pretty weird considering.

Even the habs have 4 recent draftees who played in the series including a 7th rounder.

When you trade away your firsts in cap dumps and only draft mini euro project guys this is what happens...

You can't let the guy control every aspect of the team, hire his own coach and go for broke at the trade deadline and then say this isn't his team.

Additionally he's lucky his cap guru is a stud because the actual AAV of this team is like 100 mil before the cap discounts for trades and the tricks they used to get rid of Cap stuff

Dubas got lucky even in this series because Spezza probably should have been picked up after he waived him

Nylander for Severson? With adds needed

Thornton and Simmonds were good moves? Foligno a good move?

Nah not really.. actually not at all. Just reaching for positives. I said back on the TDL.. he's made moves for names that look good but you can't buy a championship with all these trades and sink all your cap into 3 players.

Trade for Spezza and Thornton, looks really hopeful at first, but it's just bullshit. Scout some players you need before you just take the easy route and acquire names that look good.
