What changes next year?

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. 1) A top line power forward. At best Hyman is a number two/three (would trade Marner + Rielly for this piece if necessary)
2) Two more top four D like Brodie & Muzzin to fill out the top four. One with a point shot for the PP
3) Another top four speedster like Willy. Preferably a LW.

There's not enough power in the league to compensate for Mitch Marner. Move him in a hockey deal to get the right assets in and build a faster, bigger and more versatile line for Auston Matthews.
 
Everyone gets some blame. Dubas isn't free from it. He promised to "keep all the kids" (young stars) and mostly overpaid them big time. He did make good moves last off season and this yrs trade deadline though
 
It was Dubas' core that let him down, the depth was fine.

Every year the people who beat his team's ass tell him why it's so easy to best their ass and every year he's too smart.

Marner has never been worth 11. And Dubas' / Keefe rode him right off the cliff for the second year in a row.

Last year Dubas' admitted he doesn't understand people criticizing Marner. That tells you everything.

In terms of personnel, trade Marner, let Andersen and Hyman and any other UFA not named Spezza go. Kerfoot goes in expansion.

If we trade Marner for Eichel then use the free cap space to get actual depth. No more Simmonds or Thornton’s. No more grit bullshit. Colorado doesn’t have any grit like that.

If we trade Marner for just free cap. Sign Hamilton. Add a top forward at 6m for the top line. And you should be left with 9m to shore up some real depth.

Doesn't make sense to have Matthews, Eichel and Tavares. If you trade Marner for Eichel, then you need to trade Tavares or Matthews too. Obviously get way more return for Matthews....

I'm sure I'll switch thoughts over the summer but

1. Move Marner
2. Dump middle pairing (Holl-Muzzin)
3. Retool bottom 6.

Big question after is what are you trying to accomplish in building out the rest.

1. A more involved and engaged D - able to step up into the play consistently
2. More shooting threats
3. High pace and high energy bottom 6

If the team decides to rebalance things one of the three 11 million guy a needs to go. And Marner is definitely the most moveable and replaceable.

Tavares has the nmc and Matthews just won the Hart.

f*** it. I'm down. Matthews will get the largest return in nhl history. Use the space to sign Jones + some more balance. We all know Matthews wont wanna stay with his best friend Mitch getting dumped.
 
Marner would not get you eichel you guys are dreaming.
We’d be lucky if Seattle takes his bad attitude and cap hit let alone get something good back.
Might be able to get a decent return on Matthews tho.

imo Willy and Tavares are the only ones safe from the mass exodus that needs to happen
 
It will be none. I wish it would be something but it will be none. This core definitely doesn’t have it and the coach is a moron. We are basically screwed. It needs to be blown up but it won’t happen.
