It's not just the Foligno trade, he traded away a lot of picks for an all-in year. You can't go all-in at the deadline and not make it out of the first round. As for the bad contracts, let's remember, these were RFAs. If some team wanted to give away 4 1st round picks to overpay, then let them do it. It's a better for the team long term, then to go through these 1st round losses. I

In terms of personnel, trade Marner, let Andersen and Hyman and any other UFA not named Spezza go. Kerfoot goes in expansion.

If we trade Marner for Eichel then use the free cap space to get actual depth. No more Simmonds or Thornton’s. No more grit bullshit. Colorado doesn’t have any grit like that.

If we trade Marner for just free cap. Sign Hamilton. Add a top forward at 6m for the top line. And you should be left with 9m to shore up some real depth.

I'd change the following in addition to not re-signing any of the pending UFA's excluding maybe Galchenyuk for cheap and Hyman unless he wants an overpay in which case he can walk too.

-Engvall (decent depth guy but not working here, need to bury him or waive/trade)
-Marner (obvious reasons)
-Rielly (worth his contract but seems to be declining and he's been here too long without any success, doesn't have offensive IQ either and a rookie looked better running the PP)
-Coaching staff (obvious reasons)
-Dermott (decent #6-7 dman but no reason to re-sign an RFA who hasn't proven anything here and who some GM might want the rights to and who can open up a roster spot for a better player)
-GM (not fully his fault but you also pull a goalie if your team gives up 4 goals even if it's not the goalie's fault, you gotta change shit up).

Basically scorched earth policy here. I don't realistically expect the GM and coach to change, I don't think Dubas and Shanahan have enough guts and they're too patient.

I've defended Dubas in the past, but this year's playoffs reminded me a lot of last years playoffs. It's not even the result for me, it's how they looked doing it. This team just doesn't seem to have any will to impose or fight in them. I prefer tougher teams and after the last three games want a new GM who shares that vision and don't really care who gets moved or if the team gets set back a couple years developing new prospects. Trade anyone if the return makes sense
