Conditional 2025 1st round pick (Wings exercise right to decide if they want to give up 2025 or 2026 pick at draft)

With recent injury to Copp the Wings could use a forward like Donato who can slot into C or W wherever needed for playoff push. Murphy is easy upgrade over Holl for this year and next. Smith fits better in bottom 6 role than Berggren who has been miscast in that role for Wings this season and hasn't really found the level of play he showed a few years ago. Pending RFA who does not appear to have future in Detroit at this point

Hawks downgrade from Murphy but get in Holl a vet for 3rd pair RD spot to play with a kid next year. Holl hasn't been fit in Detroit but maybe he looks better with Hawks. Berggren can get shot playing in Hawks top 9 to finish out year and be evaluated going forward as potential option for Hawks top 9 next season. Hawks get 1st round pick with Yzerman having choice on if he wants to give Hawks this years pick or slide it to next years draft

- Essentially Wings look to improve roster for playoffs without giving up a lot of assets/future in process
- Hawks get an additional 1st rounder and reclamation project in Berggren instead of getting some mix of futures those 3 vets could bring in separate trades

Hard pass. Don't need yet another bad RHD, and while Donato is having a hell of a year, it's also an anomaly that he's likely gonna be looking to cash in on. Nevermind that he doesn't likely get the opportunity in Detroit that he has in Chicago.

As a wings fan I’d probably do this. I think they could easily get donato signed as well. I like Murphy anchoring the 3rd pairing.

We absolutely have the cap to sign Donato. The question is, do you really want to sign a guy who is currently on pace to double his prior career high?

Anomaly season + $7.5M cap increase means Donato and his agent are about to bend a GM over. Would prefer it's not ours.

I would do it from Detroit's perspective.

Pretty much. I'd rather move something like this for Bo Byram, if BUF isn't looking to keep him.
