We'll be back next year. Flames win 3 - 1

Realistically, it's probably never going to be as good as it was between 2012 and 2014 again. Not saying they can't or won't win again, but it's damn difficult. Things change. The mix changes. Guys get older. Guys get paid. Guys leave.

They can't take away the blur that was 2012 though. Still waiting for those playoffs to start actually. The fumes that got them to the conference final in 2013 will always be remembered. The just flat out unreal performance in 2014 will be difficult for any team in the NHL to top, let alone match.

Glad I got to see it.

I don't remember the Mayor always being such an a** clown.

What happened to this guy?

Like my Facebook page, listen to my interview on XM tomorrow morning, follow me on Twitter, listen to my podcast, and find out who let the dogs out. Then I'll share.

Makes me sad no matter how ****** he played. Love the dude, just oozes passion.

I'm ready to start planning the Justin Williams appreciation night. Hell, let's change the name on that abomination hanging in Staples Center and sew a "1" in front of the "4".

That's the NHL. Lombardi will have to make some magic this off-season. Kopitar contract, Sekera, finding a way to get rid of Voynov/Richards and having the balls to say goodbye to Stoll & Williams. That's what scares me more than anything, Lombardi not being able to let go and saying goodbye to Stoll & Williams this off-season, the way he should've with Richards and Greene.

He has to realize those changes must be made at this point, doesn't he? I mean it's not like they got bounced out of the WCF. He knows he got burned by Richards. I love that Dean wants to show loyalty but we all know that can only go so far and he does as well, especially now. If Stoll and Williams are back next year it'll be as big a mistake as keeping Richards was last summer.

Totally agreed, great post.

There's a chance we Detroit-Red-Wings it, but the best is likely past. The upcoming years will be the true test of how much DL has learned and of our scouting and development systems. We'll still certainly be a pain in the butt at least!

Agreed. Hopefully he learnt from his mistake. I bet you if the Kings get swept vs San Jose last year, Richards get bought out and Greene isn't even an LA King. I keep referring to that because this would be a completely different Kings team. Would Gaborik have stayed if that were the case? I'm 90% sure Richards would've been bought out and Greene would've probably walked.

We are going to be screwed financially for the next several years because of that Mike Richards decision. Is that penalty worth the 2 Stanley Cups? Of course it is, but Lombardi could've saved himself a lot of trouble last summer. Wow. For sure the worst managerial decision he's made in his tenure.

Glad I didn't watch this game. They really needed this year off and I dont think as many drastic changes are needed as some people have been saying. I still believe in this team and I know missing the playoffs will motivate them to come out flying next year. For this year Go Capitals or Islanders.

Would love for Dean Lombardi or someone to write a novel on his tenure as a Kings GM. I'm a NY Mets fan and there's a book that just came out on Sandy Alderson (Mets GM) and how he revolutionized the Mets organization. Dean Lombardi has done 10000 times more than what Alderson has done for the Mets, yet no one talks about it. It would be a great read, especially to be able to get the insight and knowledge of Dean.

I think the Kings can win one more in the next 3 seasons. Dean is going to have to pull all the right levers and push all the right buttons though, and Anze Kopitar is going to have to find a level to his game that far exceeds the level he played at this season.

Lombardi has said in interviews that he was going to do it some day. Asked him about it once and he laughed and said he was going to do it in his spare time if Wanda Mae helped him.

The main board is pretty much: does the Kings missing the playoffs one year completely invalidate them winning 2 cups in 3 years lol

For what it's worth, I agree with you. Just too much damn hockey over the last 4 years.
You'll be back. Keep the chin up guys.

Want to see Richards win one more gold to cap off his career but I don't know if they will even let him on the team.

So which Kings play in the IIHF World Championship?

I'd like for none of them, really. But realistically, Toffoli probably plays for Canada. Maybe Carter and Pearson if he can get healthy in time. Sekera probably plays for Slovakia and maybe Gaborik. I wouldn't be surprised if Doughty plays if only to win the WC too since it's the one thing he hasn't won yet. Oh, Lewis and maybe A-Mart play for Team USA.
