It was a great run, but you could just sense after the VV thing that things were always a little dysfunctional. We all watched it all year. And in this day and age, it doesn't take much to miss the playoffs with the parity. It's a very fine line, no different than being down 0-3 to the Sharks last year was a fine line. To me, there are a lot of very goods teams each year in the NHL, and a lot of very good players do not win the Cup nor do a lot of very good teams. To take 2 of 3 these days is really something!!! Gone are the days where in about a 15 year period only 3 teams won the cup!! Don't quote my research. But you get the point! It's a cap era, teams stick to cores because they really have no other choice, and you hope like hell the wheels don't come off and you can ride some big time wave! The Kings will need to reinvent themselves, say goodbye to some great players, not rush anymore now to trade away the future, and we as fans can enjoy the climb of the next group!! Do hold on very much longer would be a big mistake, and we already have too many signings that had the feeling of everybody thinking it will last forever! Signing guys like Greene, Muzzin, Martinez, renting Sekera, are questionable, but I don't blame them. Also, it's a very, very, defensive minded system, and to me it's not so much the system, but when you reach the point of feeling like very talented offensive players can't play the system, well to me, you're reaching the point of having your blinders on! But DL, with the help of TM, pulled it off, not once, but twice, which was amazing! The question I pose is this? Do the Kings continue to stick with what I believe is the concept of having big guys that may or may not skate well that play defense extremely well but are somewhat limited offensively, or do they budge a little bit the other way and become a little more balanced, and have a few more little guys that skate well that might not play defense all that well but are extremely gifted offensively? Hockey is a specialized game, and you need out of your 20 you suit up each night a little bit of everything. To me, the Kings had too many forwards that are there to sit on a one goal lead, and with no one else, um,um the D pairings at times, not ever make any mistakes, because as Fs, we are here to shut down but not evr score, so we can't ever be behind! But as we saw this year, well we get behind! The Kings would have been a bear for some teams to play in the playoffs, but I think several would finally match up rather well.
