Wearing your team's jersey to a game not involving your team

Eh I've done it. If I'm out of town and there's a game I can get to I'll thrown on a random team's jersey, I've got a few so I usually don't go Leafs, I don't usually do jerseys walking down the street so may as well throw one on at a game. I have gotten called out for it, absolutely, but I don't see why its a huge faux pas, sort of a conversation starter its like going to a band's show and wearing another band's shirt which is actually encouraged.

I went to game 2 against Boston in last year's playoffs, there was a guy in the row behind us wearing a Leafs jersey. He got ribbed pretty hard for wearing it. Didn't come back after the first period

I would never wear an NHL jersey that doesn't involve the team or the player. I would, however, wear a Jagr Pens jersey to a Calgary game this year.

I don't have any problem with others doing it...just not my thing.

Just buy 31 white tshirts (or practice jerseys if you're a billionaire), a couple packs of sharpies, and make homemade team clothing so you can always be sure you won't offend the hockey fashion critics.

Absolute oddball behaviour, up there with people who wear half and half jerseys or people who get names of players on jerseys they didn't wear, such as this:

This. When the Stars honored Brendan Morrow last night they had him wear the newer victory green Stars jersey. Made me cringe. That's not the jersey he went to war with. Just doesn't fit!

Grown adults wearing jerseys off of the playing surface is stupid, period. Just a different shade of lipstick on the pig.
How so? I don't see an issue with this either

Wear/do what makes you happy. It's your money and your wardrobe the way I see it. I find jerseys to be pretty comfortable and will sport one out every so often. Usually an older one or a fallen flag, but still.

Honestly I don't like it. Screams " I'm being neutral. Look how neutral I am" We all know you like hockey cut loose and pick a side to root for

I said earlier in the thread that I myself will wear one to a game. I find it stupid yet still do it.

Just thought of another one: Would someone wearing a NY Jets jersey to a hockey game where the Winnipeg Jets are the visitor deserve a decent ribbing from the home team fans?

I've seen this many times at Devils vs Jets games and I always wonder if the person did it on purpose.

The person in the NYJ jersey was cheering for the Winnipeg Jets?

It's a bit like wearing a Rolling Stones shirt to a John Fogerty concert. It's a little weird and I would never do it.

It's dumb and you look dumb.

Whether or not you care about that is up to you.

I wore a Jays (MLB) shirt to some field trip hosted by the Argos (CFL) at the stadium both teams play at when I was like 10 and got chirped by some employee, never again wearing a jersey to a different team's event

A) it is somewhat odd to see someone wearing a different team's jersey than the two teams on the ice
B) fans pay big bucks to watch these games so who cares which jersey they're wearing, really
C) It could be a good conversation starter: "Why are you wearing....?'
D) It is amusing - so we should invite fans to wear other teams' jerseys if they're a fan of ....
E) it's a hockey game in a stadium/arena so they should be wearing jerseys..... why not?
F) all the above

I would never do it, and I will reserve the right to judge you if you do it, but I will also acknowledge that in the end you have the right to wear what you want.

Jerseys of non-NHL teams are ok, as are defunct NHL teams. Junior or college jerseys of one of the players on the ice is even pretty cool and at least relates to what's going on, on the ice.

it doesn't matter unless you're a dick.
then it really matters.

This exactly, I used to worry about stuff like that, than I realized that only holier than thou individuals would have a problem with “proper jersey etiquette”. Your flying your colours in hostile territory, good on ya.
