Wearing your team's jersey to a game not involving your team

You see scores of people wearing tshirts of the band who'se concert they are attending while they are at that bands concert.

Well, there's certainly people on both side of the belief. I've noticed Iron Maiden fans are probably the most "guilty".

But it's still definitely a thing.

2. THOU SHALT NOT WEAR THE T-SHIRT OF THE BAND YOU ARE GOING TO SEE TO THE SHOW.
This one has been debated for ages, and the frequent counterargument from people who enjoy being wrong is, “If you go to a sporting event, you’d wear your team’s colors, wouldn’t you?” I sure would! You know why? Because that’s a competitive event. There are two teams trying to beat one another, and with each team comes its fans. Going to a show shouldn’t be a competition—it’s assumed that if you’re inside a dingy rock club on a Tuesday night in a bad part of town, you’re there for the same reason as everyone else is: to see the headliner. Use this opportunity to wear something other than that band’s logo on your chest. It doesn’t have to be another band’s T-shirt, either; I personally like wearing nerdy pro wrestling inside-joke tees. The reason being is because out of the 400 or so people present, you may only know a handful at best. Use your outfit as a way to connect with a stranger. If someone compliments you on what you’re wearing, that means you already have two things in common—your style and the band you’re about to see. Bam! New friend alert!

I don't subscribe to it one way or another but there's definitely a good amount of people who see it as a faux pas....just like a bunch of people have jersey etiquette beliefs.

You go to a game, you dress the part. If neither team is one you root for or have a sweater from, just wear what you got. I don't see how that's controversial.

How silly. I've never heard of this until now honestly.

I'll happily wear the shirt of a band that I'm going to see to their concert if I already have a shirt of theirs. Or I'll wear a shirt of an affiliate band (I.E. I'll wear one of my Eyehategod shirts to a Down gig.)

I think it's pretty weird, unless you're wearing a jersey of a player who is playing, who used to play on another team. For example, wearing a Jagr Flyers jersey to a Flames game. That would be understandable.

If I went to a game where the Jets weren't playing, I might wear a Jets hat or something to show my team pride, but wouldn't wear a full on jersey. I don't know why I think that's okay but a jersey isn't, I just do. :wg: I guess it's just more subtle.

Where whatever you want. You paid for the seat. I'd rather wear a hockey jersey to a hockey game over anything else. It adds to the overall experience and atmosphere. Do You folks not wear hockey jerseys out on a regular outing? That sounds more odd than to an actual game.

I live in Montreal, and I'll wear a Habs jersey every time I go to Bell Centre except if they play the Caps, in which case I show my true colors. If I had to go to a Sens vs Bruins game in Ottawa, then I just wouldn't wear anything.

People do it all the time at 'Canes games. One of my favorites is when Rangers fans come to PNC to jeer the Devils/Flyers/Islanders etc and vice versa. Good times are abundant on those nights.

Says this guy who watched the Leafs vs. Sens game tonight in Ottawa.

That looks like a Kitchener Rangers jersey to me.

In which case, it's really not so bad for a game between 2 Ontario teams.

What do you guys think of wearing international jerseys (world junior, World Cup, Olympic) jerseys to NHL games?

When it comes down to it, I wouldn't wear a Blues jersey unless they were playing. I think it's weird unless a player name on jersey is playing in that game (for example, Backes Blues jersey at a Bruins vs Hawks game).

Totally fine with me. Support your team. Support it in the street, support it at any game. Maybe it's your fav jersey, maybe it's your only one. Bottom line it shows team spirit and support for the game so I say do it.

For a bunch of manly men, hockey fans sure have a lot of fashion rules..

The only faux pas that really bothers me is those fake Chinese jerseys. In my mind, it's worse to wear a fake Habs jersey to a Canadiens vs Leafs game, than it is to wear an authentic Senators jersey to that game. Especially if it's like really obviously fake, like wrong colour of red or lettering in the wrong font

There is no such thing as "casual fan" since those two words contradict each other.
Either you're a fan and you're really following every game of your team or you're casual and be like "they're playing tonight? whatever. maybe i'll watch".

There are casual fans and then there are hardcore fans.

The closest NHL city is an 8 hour drive away. The $300 Adidas Komarov Leafs jersey I bought last month will be worn at Major Junior games or any exhibition NHL games of random teams that come here. No f's given.

I wear mine no matter the location. The only time there was a problem was with a drunk fan of another NHL team outside, and that was at a U17 tournament which had nothing to do with the NHL teams we support.
So, 1 incident out of dozens of times, no big deal.

If I'm out of town going to an NHL game when the Sharks aren't playing, you'd bet your ass i'd be in head to toe Sharks gear.

Just last week I was at the Sharks/Sabres game and a guy was wearing full on Tampa gear and some idiot Sharks fan was harassing him. He got told to shut the **** up and several Sharks fans rightfully notified the nearest usher (about the Sharks idiot, not the Tampa dude who wasn't doing anything wrong).
Never had an issue in San Jose wearing my Sens jersey, fans were good. Only heard one idiot yell out USA during the Canadian Anthem but that was it over 5 or 6 games there...

While traveling to Florida for a tournament a few years ago, went to both a Bolts and Panthers game with 20 people all wearing random jerseys (mostly NJ / NYR gear). Nobody seemed to mind, and we all had fun. Not sure why anyone would get overly upset by this

I guess a lot of that depends on where it is taking place and whether or not it's something that frequently happens. As I mentioned above, it happens all the time in Raleigh. Not surprised to see it happen in Tampa, Florida, Dallas, etc. I'm sure at least one or two Nashville season-ticket holders wear such gear frequently. I'm used to it, happens at Checkers game all the time too.
