Wearing your team's jersey to a game not involving your team

As a Leafs fan that goes to plenty of Sens games, I usually wear a Team Canada jersey or hat. The red blends in nicely with the Sens colors so it doesn't look too out of place. I also own a Patrick Marleau 2010 Olympics Team Canada jersey. Now that he plays for the Leafs, I may have to wear that :naughty:.

I cant get behind wearing a jersey to a game that doesnt involve that team. Its embarassing, only circumstance it is ok is if the player used to play for said team but now plays for the team of the game you are attending.

If you get offended by people wearing hockey jerseys to hockey games, no matter the team, you should learn to take yourself less seriously. Such a silly thing to get worked up about. Wear whatever you want, especially if you have to pay that much money for a jersey. And to those saying 'it's just for attention', so what if it is, you are the people feeding into the attention anyways.

Even if it is for attention, spoiler alert... you're free to ignore them and focus on the hockey game. Why would that bother you?

Heck, even if it's a jersey from another sport... so? And what's the cutoff point? If you go to a game and a dude's wearing an actual baseball hat, is that some horrendous fan faux pas as well? Oh no, we're at a Flames/Sens game and someone's wearing a Phillies hat. The horror.

People just usually wear jerseys at games because it's an excuse to wear them and you don't often get the opportunity. Why take issue with someone dusting an old sweater out of a closet?

For me, it's a situational thing. I wouldn't wear a Leafs jersey to a Bruins/Kings game, it just doesn't make sense to me. Would I wear a Whalers jersey to a Canes/Habs game while holding a sign that says "Hartford still loves you"? Absolutely.

I can't wrap my head around what is unacceptable about it. Second of all, hockey jerseys are beautiful and should be worn everywhere. Every time this comes up it amazes me how many people are bothered by this.

Do you remove your jersey when you're on the way to the game? The Rangers aren't playing on the 2 train, so take your jersey off?

Ok so this guy here obviously wears his jersey to a game in which his team isn't even playing. Nonetheless, it doesn't bother me.

Red looks very out of place in the sea of blue during a leafs/sens game in Ottawa

But you would never wear a bands t-shirt to that bands show. It's the opposite for hockey/sports.

I see people buying t shirts at the merch table and putting them on all the time. I've never been to a concert and thought "wow, I can't believe that person is wearing a shirt for the band that is playing!" Anyone who cares about this kind of stuff seriously needs to get a life.

It's annoying. I can understand wearing a hat, maybe, but the jersey. NO.

Yes 100% acceptable...... except if you wear the jersey of a rival of the home team when that rival isn't playing. Then you're just looking for negative attention.

My wife and I are trying to see one of our teams play in every NHL arena. She's a Flyers fan. And when we go to each arena, we wear our team's jersey regardless of who is playing that night so we can take a photo of ourselves at the arena and put it on a scrapbook she is making.

And yes, people have said to us "Well why are you wearing a jersey if the Devils/Flyers aren't playing here tonight?" Speaking of getting negative attention like I did above, you can imagine the words she got when she wore a Flyers jersey to Devils vs Penguins in Pittsburgh. But she only did it so that we could get our photos, so it wasn't done to get attention.

This!

No rival jerseys, I.E. dont wear a Rangers jersey to a Flyers-Devils game in either building.

i think it fine to wear a jersey of a team not even playing. as long as its a #69 jersey and you have some witty pun on the namebar.

it's about 50-50 from I gather from every ones responses.

Me and 4 of my friends went to a Barrie Colts game and my one buddy wore his Matthews jersey. The rest of us wore normal clothes.

The only time I wore my Clark jersey outside of a leaf game was at a wwe event.

At the Stars game a couple of Thursday's back there were at least five or six Flames fans there. They weren't sitting together either. You see it with Leafs, Habs (PK) and team Canada mostly. There is usually at least one Hawks fan at every Preds game also.

Buying a shirt at the show and then putting it on AT THE SHOW is so much worse than wearing the bands t-shirt TO the show!

In the grand scheme of things, I don’t REALLY care, but they’re fun unwritten rules of things you “shouldn’t” do.

But you do you!.

Wear the jersey of the team you root for, regardless of if they are playing or not. However, don't cheer for your team that isn't playing. I went to a Pirates-Blue Jays a few years back and this guy obnoxiously yelled "Go Cubs" while being decked out entirely in Cubs gear. Just unnecessary

I did it once before at a Red Wings vs Flames game at the Joe and instantly regretted it. What a stupid stupid idea that was. Would never do it again.

Edit: Was 17 years old at the time by the way.

Never liked it, a Kings fan wearing a Kings sweater to a Ducks vs Sharks game, why? Just put on neutral colors and enjoy rivals beating the crap out of each other.

I would make an exception for team names no longer in existence, Whalers, Arena's, Thrashers, Nordique's, Baron's teams like that. No problem paying respects to teams no longer with us

If your team isn't playing it's ridiculous to wear their jersey.

Which is why I take mine off during intermissions and commercial time outs.

Man, I'm happy I go to concerts to actually enjoy the music and have a good time. It must not be very fun silently judging people because they've committed some weird, nonsensical "unwritten" fashion faux pas.
