Some wild takes here.

It's October. October hockey is mostly bullshit. A lot of mediocre teams come flying out of the gate and are irrelevant by Christmas. A lot of really good teams get off to slow starts every year and we're seeing that around the league right now.

In October 2010 we won 2 of 7 games, our 4th line was basically unplayable and Luongo looked like an average goalie.

Right now a lot of players individually look somewhere between average and poor because our systems play isn't good. We have every reason to believe that Tocchet and Foote will correct that.

Our D is trash outside of Hughes and Hronek as we knew it would be. It will look less trash if we can get back to being structurally sound like we were last year but it won't be good until we add a top-4 defenseman, which I'm sure we will. Allvin and Rutherford aren't dumb and there's no chance they're going into the playoffs without significantly upgrading this D corps.

That said, I hope the coaching staff has seen enough of Juulsen for a while. Forbort is very limited but he's looked better the last 2 games and is clearly being dragged down by Juulsen on that pairing. There's literally no chance that Desharnais or Friedman would be worse at this point.
Nah nice try but I'll stick to overreacting and calling for heads.

The good news is that the games haven't been blowouts even if 90% of the team is playing like trash. The bad news is the entire team is playing like trash outside of a couple players. Either the coaches or the leadership group need to keep the team accountable and make players play like we know they can

We could have easily won both Silovs games with a couple of more saves. First two goals tonight were brutal, that puts us into OT at 1-1 if he can stop those.

Not too worried about the team at this point in the season because it's so early. However, I don't think it's invalid to look at the trends and hope to see mistakes being corrected as the season wears on.

Same thing with NFL, vets just don't get all that many reps in preseason so in some ways they are taking the first 5 games just to get into it.

Lankinen really needs to start games with at LEAST a 2-to-1 ratio over Silovs. That's basically what he should have had as Demko's backup.

I was hoping the extended time from the Friday game would give him reps with the goalie coach but I beginning to think that with the quickness of the game, the NHL isn't the place to work on these issues.

^ I'm a big Silovs guy, I thought he played...alright....tonight.

Still doesn't change how shocked I am they didn't go with Lankinen. Keep in mind I am completely ignorant to if they play tomorrow in like Sunrise or something. Ya nah, I'd have played Lankinen both FL games and Silovs the Philly game to give them a different look.

Not sure how you can possibly blame Silovs for tonight's result. Without him in the first period, this sad-sack group is probably down three or four nothing. The rink was tilted.

Besides, if you only score one goal, you can hardly expect your netminder to have to pitch a shutout.

Interesting between period Allvin/Tocchet interview.
This is obviously Tocchet's player selections for the team.

There appears to be a real lack of chemistry.

Kinda looks like they have a 2nd line, two 3rd lines and a 4th line.

Even Miller looks slower.

They aren't setting up in the Ozone very well, oh ya they can fore check, sometimes but the way the team is now constructed they lean on 3 players for wins.

The weakened defence, it didn't take passing a physic's test to figure that out.

It is still early BUT having Garland as your best forward is setting the goal post pretty low.

Listening to media and post game SHOW praise these losses makes you wonder how they will describe a win.

Is it possible for them to sound like young girls screaming for an entire show? "OH MY GOD they were so INCREDIBLE", "PERFECTION!!!!!", "PLAN THE PARADE", "We are speechless, they played so good"

Just finished watching this recorded game.

Petey came out flying in the 1st and wasnt bad at all tonight. Hronek struggling mightily paired with Hughes. Juulsen blew a tire and Blueger lost his man on the 1st goal against. Silovs had a great 1st as we were dominated by TBL.

2nd we started way better and controlled most the period. Sherwood was watching the play and doing nothing on the 2nd goal against but Silovs shouldve had it mid-high blocker. Hughes went into super saiyan and we deserved a goal that period.

Myers and Silovs not good on the 3rd goal against. Finally get rewarded and Garland gets a goal by going hard to the net for a rebound to make sure it goes in. Look at the flex on Essys stick easy no goal shouldnt have taken so long to decide that. Hronek finally shoots a slapshot. Empty net dagger.

Lose 4-1. PK did well, Vasy is still a top goalie. Guentzky stings us of course. Still have lots of trouble setting up plays and gaining o zone

No idea what's been going on with Miller.

I suspect he's nursing some kind of injury, otherwise the decision to not play him in the preseason was completely braindead considering how out of sync he looks and how bad the powerplay looks without any practice.

I'm not too worried overall about the poor start. Like most have been saying, October hockey is f***ing weird. Colorado, Nashville and Edmonton are also at the bottom of the standings while f***ing Calgary is leading the league.

They need to get Myers off that 2nd pair sooner than later. He's perfectly solid if you limit his minutes to 16-18, but expecting a 34 year old Tyler Myers to be able to competently log 20 mins a night is unhinged. Honestly, at this point in the season, I'd like to see them bring up McWard and try and recreate that chemistry he had with Hughes a few preseasons ago. Can't be worse than any of the other RHD options they tried. If it works, it lets them drop Hronek to a pair with Soucy.

Garland Raty Hoglander has the most minutes together and they are tilting the ice in their minutes quite handily

Can’t ask more from them
They are drawing penalties, Hoglander drew 2 penalties this game alone
Not giving up much, and creating

Spring-Pettersson-debrusk
YUCK. Dumpster fire in their minutes

It's really unfortunate that the team blew that lead to Calgary. It set the tone for the early part of this season. If they hold that lead they get the space to breathe while they work through some of these early season kinks. Instead, they've got the pressure turned right up as they look to get their first win.
