This is dumb. LOOK AT HIS PACE IN NOVEMBER.
Marner had one hot 3 game stretch (Nov 2nd-6th)where he got 9 points in 3 games. Other than that, he had 3 goals/9 points in 11 games in November. His overall production this season is pacing for 20 goals/ 75 points. It's really just unacceptable. The winning streak distracted us from it.

looks like shoulder 3-4 weeks from keefe. I wonder if that’s from today or time of injury. A month for a minor separated shoulder makes sense

bad timing if olympics are a thing. I don’t see how he gets left off the team but man that sucks. No wonder he was fired up. Injured in practice before olympics.
likely similar to Matthews shoulder injury when Trouba hit him awkwardly a few seasons back

The winning streak ended with Marners absence, genius.

Coincidence. The leafs have a very good record with Matthews out of the lineup. Guess he sucks, right?

The point is that Marner is having a very bad year for an 11 million dollar player. Outrageous contracts come with outrageous expectations.
Maybe Mitch is more valuable to this team then people would like to give him credit for if he’s not putting up points he still plays A good two way game

Good 2 way players that put up 20 goals/75 points make about 4-5 mil less per season than Mitch.

Coincidence to anyone who doesnt watch the games.

tied in points with Kane (the good version) and Rantanen yet ahead of players like Pastrnak and Tarasenko (who they are saying is playing great) ...and yea, he's having a 'very bad' year. ...and i'm not even a Marner 'fan' but, i do respect what he brings to the team.

its like when people were screaming how Kaberle was better than McCabe, but, when Kaberle got hurt the Leafs kept winning, and whenever McCabe missed games, we'd lose.
often the 'better' player is not the key player to the team winning or losing.
McCabe played the harder minutes, and Kaberle was the points guy, like Marner plays the PK and last min of a game, and Matthews, not so much.

He makes significantly more money than those other players. Those players have reasonable contracts, hence reasonable expectations. Marner has an outrageous contract hence outrageous expectations.

If Marner wanted fair expectations like those other players, he should have signed a fair contract.

And are you saying that you believe Marner is more valuable overall to the leafs than Matthews?

sure, but, Mitch isnt a 20 goal 75 point player, he's more of a 25-70 95 point player, and that difference is HUGE, those these days, the salaries are catching up for the far lesser players. look at Hughes at $8/per for a whopping career high 31 points and 11 goals. I'd say Marner should earn 2.9/per more than Hughes. at Least Marner signed his deal after a 94 point season. ...geez, if Hughes had had 42 points he'd have commanded the same salary as Marner on a PPG average/$$ LOL

THIS year he's pacing for 20 goals/75 points while playing a good 2 way game. Something that's worth 6-8 mil. Not 11 mil. So THIS year he's playing horribly given his contract.

And pointing out other horrible contracts doesn't negate the fact that Marner is significantly overpaid this season based on his production.

he doesnt though... if you factor in tax rates, he's on par or below Rat and Kane ...in Col, Mitch would be making 1.3 less and is at 9.25, so, diff is Mitch plus 400k, and in Chi 1.2 less and Kane is at 10.5, so, technically he makes more $$ (equal to 11.8 on Toronto)
Marner is paid on par to those 'peers' and is on a better contract than many of these young unproven have proven nothing players, like Hughes, or Pettersson, or Suzuki etc.
