The least surprising outcome off all this is how much better the power play looks these last 3 games without the muffin shot man trying to be a hero on the power play the whole time

he has 13 sponsors including a major bank, insurance and red bull…. You don’t think he’s making in the millions on endorsements?

Gee, why would all those sponsors want such a selfish player to endorse their brand? I suppose you will be dumping your CIBC stock? :help:

it could have sent a message league wide that he is not a GM to be trifled with, and will not bend for any player, and at the time there was a bunch of like players also looking for contracts that could have made a lateral move, or a huge defensive improvement.
Also needing to be signed were
Point (TB wouldnt have dealt him)
Rantanen (possible 1-1 swap)
Tkachuck (would have gotten an add for the Leafs)
McAvoy (Boston wouldnt have dealt him)
Connor (would have gotten a big add(s) for the Leafs back then)
Laine (?? if it would have been considered then)
Werenski (i'd have to think CBJ would have gone for it)
Konecny (would have gotten a big add(s) for the Leafs)
Provorov (?? if it would have been considered then)
Aho (would have gotten an add for the Leafs then)

...and this was just the top RFA's that off season, though the UFA's were nothing special.

Not sure why you would pick a player who you don't feel is overpaid to send a message, especially a player as talented as Marner. Players with that kind of talent don't come around too often so I'd prefer to keep them in the fold but whatever, that's just me.

I would not have given him that contract though and my first choice would have been not to trade him, but let him sit out and hope he eventually caves and then, trade him as a last resort. But the big difference is that I am with the solid majority who believes that Marner's contract was indeed an overpayment.

Was it Nylander who took the deal he was handed or the GM who called and took Nylanders offer?

IIRC it was Nylander who called the GM at more or less the last minute. I believe many are claiming it was the other way around and it was Dubas who caved, it seems that people believe what they want to believe and when all else fails, they even make up stuff to suit their narratives.

Pot, meet kettle.
