Probably should have worried a while ago lol, he's got too many flaws to ever be a really productive scorer in the NHL. Speed is obvious but he also doesn't have a particularly good release and he's not a good distributor of the puck. And as much as we like to see him hold onto the puck on the perimeter it never usually leads to anything.
I know you like to bag on Kakko and Lafreniere's obvious flaws, and believe me, I see it.

That being said, they were "everyone and their dog" consensus picks.

Did the entire world miss it or did the Rangers f*** something up?

I rarely go on post game rants, but this team sucks.

This is unacceptable; this cannot be allowed to continue. But they are cap strapped and have a bunch of NTC/NMCs. Can only move salary for salary; "I'll take your headache if you take mine". Coaching change? It's not all Gallant's fault, but he does get his share of the blame. Playing 4th liners/career plugs on the top line/top 6 is insanity. At this point, I don't think Drury would do it, but I wouldn't scream blue murder if he did.

Part of it is this organization's idiotic philosophy when it comes to developing skill forwards. They try to turn every forward prospect into a 3rd-4th line grinder. You draft Kakko, Lafreniere and Kravtsov to be among your leading scorers some day; not to try to win a Selke Trophy.

Also, too many players on this team need to get their head out of their ass. They aren't good enough to just show up and win games on talent alone.

If things continue to go this way, they might as well tank for Connor Bedard and be sellers by the trade deadline. But any prospects they might get back, do you have confidence this organization can develop them properly? I don't.

Well... that 2017 offseason was a disaster. Stepan is traded-- that should have been the start of the rebuild right then and there. Trading away our best player at the most important position in the sport. McDonagh should have been right behind him.

But then 3 days later we sign Shattenkirk? That is a must win now put us over the top as a contender move.

Not to mention the disaster that became the Lias Andersson pick and signing an offensive RHD when that identical player was the main piece in trading away one of your best players.

Gorton f***ed up massively by holding onto McDonagh like he did. Come 2018 TDL, Gorton boxed himself in with very few suitors on the table. Not to mention he had to compete for offers with the best defenseman in the league also on the trade market.
You're not going to get any disagreement from me here.

Gretzky’s presence demanded respect in the locker room too. You can tell by his 161-219-45 coaching record.
And both Gretz and Mess are awful on TV.
You set an arbitrary timeframe to quote a record over two seasons with different personnel. Everyone is frustrated…

maybe you can also give us their record for the same timeframe on Saturdays when the games start at 7:30 or later….I bet that has the same relevance
Different personnel? Wait are you hanging onto the idea that Copp Motte and Vatrano (who were in the lineup at the same time only handful of times) and Trochek is that vastly different of personnel? What about the coach. These are CORE problems. Why I started at that point is that is when this slip in play started. They were awful 5v5 through most of last year but Igor and some clutch comebacks saved their bacon.

This idea that they have bad luck and that is what is costing them is silly. You make your own luck...the law of averages always returns to the mean. They've had 2 games this year where they played 60 minutes of hockey like a playoff contender. The rest has been a bubble team at best.

So do you disagree with their quality of play or do you have anything of substance besides your own cherry picking?

I think the issue here is that scouts hadn't caught up yet to how important speed and skating have become at the NHL level. They are probably the number 1 attributes to be successful in the NHL now. That is a more recent thing. Scouts were basing their models on Laf and Kakko success off of outdated philosophies.

And if we didn't totally f*** up the 2003 draft we'd have won multiple Cups from 2012-15.

Imagine Mike Richards leading that 2012 Black and Blueshirts team that was the hardest to play against in the league?

Imagine if we had Patrice Bergeron to go against Kopitar in 2014 or leading us into Game 7 against Tampa?

Ryan Getzlaf?
Let’s be honest, Richards and Bergeron wouldn’t become the players they turned into because #HockeysDifferentHere

They took out the red line 17 years ago.

I don't think speed leapt up in importance since Lafreniere and Kakko were drafted.

Just got back from the game, has this been posted yet?

Teams with speed give our D fits. They’re on our D after dump in right away causing pressure, and their D press our wingers high so no real outlet and ability to generate a clean breakout. The D either A)coughs up the puck behind the net lookin at you Trouba (worst option) B) pass it around the opposite side to our wingers who’s covered resulting in a puck battle and at best a clear barely over the line C) fling it up the near boards hoping to squeeze by the D mostly resulting in another turnover and continued zone time.

Our only solution is extended O zone time so we don’t have to play defense, not really a solution…

100%. And we all know how the best teams in the league play...

NYR roster construction for 2022 hockey is honestly laughable.

And there were still guys who were excellent offensive junior hockey players with good size that couldn't even get picked in the first round because they apparently couldn't skate - Kaliyev, Jason Robertson.

The Rangers need to catch up with speed, that's for sure.

I guess, you know, there's 32 teams and somebody has to be the slowest team, but the Rangers might be the slowest team since they took out the red line.

I don't buy that non-elite skating should doom a prospect but when nobody on the team can skate, it becomes more of a problem.

Dude, consensus picks bust all the time, shit happens, kids are 18 and there’s always a chance, higher than some realize, that they never reach top end potential. Shit happens.
