I know you like to bag on Kakko and Lafreniere's obvious flaws, and believe me, I see it.

That being said, they were "everyone and their dog" consensus picks.

Did the entire world miss it or did the Rangers f*** something up?
I reject that assertion, at the beginning of the season I was complimenting Kakko often, you can go back and look. I don't like to be as negative as I have been with them but it's hard to be anything else. Others can speak better on their pre NHL work, I didn't watch all that much of each prior to them being drafted in all honesty. I really wish there was a clear answer to your question, it seems to me that there probably is some sort of dysfunction in player development that is entrenched deep in the organization, but then again you have success stories like Buch, Kreider, Callahan, Stepan, throw Zucc in there, Hayes, Miller, Dubinsky. None of them were ever superstars, but a few were and are stars and they were all at one point 1st liners or 2nd liners. It's bizarre that two 1st and 2nd overall picks, are so underwhelming, not to mention Kravtsov and Andersson.

The Rangers need to catch up with speed, that's for sure.

I guess, you know, there's 32 teams and somebody has to be the slowest team, but the Rangers might be the slowest team since they took out the red line.

I don't buy that non-elite skating should doom a prospect but when nobody on the team can skate, it becomes more of a problem.
Not no one, Chytil and Miller can skate, so can Zibanejad when he feels like it, but yeah we don't have any burners and our style of play makes us seem even slower.

I will say the Islanders are a team that are definitely slower than us, but thats probably about it.

The reason it can't be explained is very simple. It's randomness. 30+ teams in the league. You should expect that one, or more of them, go through a stretch of (early) first round picks busting at some point. You don't need to seek stories behind everything when this is going to happen to a team.

That game obviously sucked ass, but I still can’t help but wonder why this team decided they needed to change anything at all that they were doing after the first 4 games of this season. They steamrolled through 4 teams but got goalie’d by Hellebuyck. You wouldn’t even think these two teams are the same roster.

i think it's underestimated how much having david quinn as their first coach set back kakko and lafreniere

they used to get benched or sent to the 4th line ALL THE TIME for stupid shit. at least Gallant lets them play.
Like jones and kravtsov! Not trying to be a dick and you're right about Quinn but I have a good feeling GG would have done the same with a 18 year old Kakko/Laf.

Play Jones and drop this loser Hajek he is vanilla suckage

Probably not twice in two years tbh
Shit happens, I mean it really does.
The amount of highly drafted forwards that have busted w the NYR in my lifetime is reaching a level that can’t be explained with back luck.
Dude I saw the Rangers develop Amonte and Weight, they gave them away for a cup run. This org has done some dumb shit, I’m not here to excuse them, but most of the current shit is bad luck, not much else you can say. If we trade these two top picks away tomorrow I doubt they do a 180 and turn into all world talent.

No, I didn't mean anything by it. If it sound like that, it's probably just general frustration.

Buch and Zucc yes, but they're also much better on their new teams. They became elite players.

It's the elite talent where something seems off. We certainly produce our share of NHL'ers and that's a double-edged sword.

Yes, we're getting NHL'ers out of Fast and Stepan but we're also getting "just" NHL'ers out of Lafreneire and Kakko.

Like, I have no doubt that Lafreniere and Kakko are going to be contributors in their mid and late 20's but not what we need them to be.

Kravtsov adds to the frustration. Andersson, I just never got, and I'm willing to chalk that up to bad pick.

couldn't agree more about Jones, but I think it has more to do with one of the coaches thinking Hajek is actually good.

The good news, however, is we have Gerard Gallant at the helm. The coach that 90% of this board says was the guy we needed before last year.

Tbf, most people recognized his shelf life was short and that he probably wouldn't be the guy to bring a cup home.

Over achieving last year may have accelerated his expiration date.

Embarrassing stuff

Idk they go from here. If they fire Gallant, who do they bring in? Or if you leave him, the problems compound

He basically said Gallant was an extreme players coach, and while we would probably win games, he would perpetuate most of the complaints about Quinn.

Hit the nail on the head.

i dunno i think you guys are forgetting how frustrating Quinn was. just with the line combinations and player useage. it was way worse than this. i remember how the lines would all get completely jumbled for 3 minutes after any PP or PK. he was completely lost.

At this point, let the players coach themselves.....they seem to be doing it any way....
