Props to Ellerby. The kid played a strong game. Had a couple of good rushes into the offensive zone, played tough in his own zone.

I agree up to the point that he left his man open in the slot to instead try to cover a player who was far away from being in a scoring position that ended up allowing his man to score the game winning goal.

Other than that mental lapse Ellerby wasn't terrible at all. He had some solid moments no doubt. In time he should be an alright Dman.

He wined about the Call but didn't blame the Refs for anything.

When did Quick blame the refs for this loss? Was there a post game interview? Seriously, I don't live in LA so I don't get to see any of the post game stuff.

I think you make fair points here. However playing Muzzin and Ellerby together is a bad idea and it was Ellerby who made the mistake that cost us the game winning goal by leaving his man open in the slot.

I would also add that since it was scored on the PP that if A Mart was on the ice that it wouldn't have likely happened. Maybe the 7d rotation would have been a better call. I can't swallow that our best option after winning the past two games was to go with playing two rookies who are experiencing their growing pains together and why either one of them would have been out killing off a two man advantage during a playoff game. (Ellerby was on the ice when we were down by two men).

If I am correct, A-Mart spends the least amount of time on the PK out of all Kings Defensive players.

That is for a reason. Sutter doesn't like A-Marts game right now for a reason.

But the Kings do Transition a little better with A-Mart in the lineup.

No one blamed anything on the Refs. But you shouldn't be abusing them though.

It's ended badly for any team that has done it this post season.

Ellerby and Muzzin both had some awful turnovers throughout the whole game, but its not like they were completely horrible. They were lucky they didn't lead to any goals though. I'm surprised we hung on to within one goal, and if it weren't for the costly penalties, who knows how it would've ended. And at least Toffoli finally scored.

I think Martinez has learned his lesson from the benching and will be ready for game 4. The same goes for Nolan. Pearson is far too green for a series like this, but it was worth a **** in the woods. Our top guys need to be better (duh)....

Ellerby actual did let his man score the game winning goal. He left his man wide open in favor of covering a player completely out of scoring position. He shouldn't have been out there on the PK when we were down by two men. When RR came out of the box Ellerby lost track of who he should be covering and his man got the game winning goal.

Other then that he had his moments.

Regarding Quick all I'm really trying to say is he shouldn't be abusing the refs or whining incessantly to them. He's better than that.

Give me two reasons why King is in the line up.

I really can't find anything.

He doesn't hit. Nothing

Nobody else. Just one reason, but the only reason needed.

I like the guy and think he can be a good piece for this team but the worse he's gotten he gets moved up lines. Clifford has shown himself just as incapable of being moved up, Nolan takes too many dumb penalties.

I agree but I can't see why DS does what he does regarding AM. Maybe it the 7man rotation would be the right call but what we saw tonight certainly wasn't.

I love DS but tonights loss was also partly his fault. That doesn't happen too often so chalkit up to experience.

Random thought.

Anyone know if the kings will fly home for a couple days for the 2 day layoff? Only an hour flight, they could be in their own beds by now.

He adds nothing, why dont we bump up someone and try a kid instead of him? I dont think it could get any worse to be honest.

It's Muzzin not A-Mart with least amount of PK time per game.

Ellerby gets more PK time than Voynov.

Maybe it's just poor coaching?

We don't even know what the conversation was about or how 'abusive' it was. He lost his temper. He had just lost the game. I just don't think it's that big of a deal or that it will equal us not getting anymore calls.

And if it is a problem, Sutter will tell him to knock it off. Case closed.

I don't agree, you got one goal out of the Forwards tonight, and it was a brilliant move and turnover from a Rookie....

The Kings didn't give up an even strength Goal, Did Sutter make Brown and Lewis take two stupid Penalties at the end of the game ?

Had the Forwards showed up or Slava's knuckle shot go in in the last 7 mins....Everyone would be saying how F&*9ing smart Sutter is for benching A-Mart.

Three straight Pk's to end the Game, one of them a dread Stick foul in the Offensive zone...How is that Sutter's fault ?

We played a kid tonight. I'm not saying this is always going to be the case or anything, but he was less effective than King.

If the Kings wanted to bump up a kid to replace King they should have done that many games ago, like they did with Toffoli.

Agreed!! Dwight King does absolutley nothing to create chances for Richards and Carter and doesn't have the speed and topend skils to create chances for himself!
He should not be on the second line. Perhaps on the 4th line. He is not a horrible player; he just isn't a very good player, period.

Look at Richardson. He can skate, pass, shoot and create chances for his teammates and for himself. That backhand, saucer pass to Doughty in game 2 was stellar. King could have never done that! Is Richardson a true top 6 guy? No, but if he was playing with Richards and Carter on their line, I know they would get more chances - all 3 of them. King does nothing on that line, except try to get pucks on the boards and he isn't doing very well at it.

Please get King off of line 2!!

Pearson was just not going to make a difference playing 5 mins.

It was pretty much a waste. Unless Sutter wanted the Kid to see playoff Hockey.

Why not ? The fourth line has been non effective all season.

He only played 5 minutes on the 4th line.

I think you can put Clifford/Toffoli with richards, bench king. And Put Pearson or Andy in instead of Richardson.

Not to be a homer, but on Lewis' penalty call, it could have been called the other way if Lewis have a present of mind to fall down as soon as Marleau applied the hook. The puck has already been passed to Richards. Therefore, it should have been an interference or a hook call on Marleau. Unfortunately, Lewis is an honest player, instead he fought hard and skating toward the net. I hope Lewis learns from this experience.
On to game 4.
Go Kings!!!

Clifford is injured, and Toffoli is not a guy that is going to create space for Richards/Carter for 20+ mins.

Toffoli looks just fine with that Third/Fourth line. Those Lines have people that can create space for Toffoli

I have to break this down to points. Sorry my eyes are totally jabbered and I have to read one line at a time and very slowly.

First lines of your post I agree completely.

Second point I agree completely.

Third not me. I would have said we got away with having Muzzin and Ellerby paired together. It is a mistake that I can't for the life of me see why DS thinks it is a good idea. It causes everyone else to have play their game differently and I would argue that it is part of the reason why our offence struggled as well as why we struggled to break out of the zone when they were on the ice.

I don't blame DS for the penalties at all. I do think that having a rookie D that has sat out a game and in all honesty is still finding his way out on the ice during the playoffs while killing a two man advantage when his game wasn't great (not terrible but not great either) to start with.

Ellerby isn't the goat or anything. He is a rookie. Rookies make those kind of mistakes. It takes experience to know that no matter what you keep the front of the net clear and in our system that you never leave the player in the slot open during a PK (actually, Stevens preaches it as gospel).

So it ended up being Ellerby's mistake that cost us the game in that his man was the one who he left open and ended up scoring.

That is my point. The reasons why were in the situation was due to several mistakes that have several reasons. Its over.

I will say that it took some very shoddy officiating and several key mistakes that we don't typically make for the fish to beat us and we are without our 3rd line anchor. To me that is what made things the most difficult tonight.
