That might be the only Kings series I've watched in a long time where I had zero confidence they would win a game after game 1.

I had confidence until the start of the 2nd when they took a lead in Game 3, but after they didn't score a 2nd goal, I started to worry.

I had no hope when they fell behind in Game 4. That's a feeling I haven't had since 2010.

I just had this feeling that if they didn't go up 2-0 in game 3 then they have no chance. And then as the game went on I had a feeling Vegas would tie it and win. Tonight I figured it was done with when they didn't score in the first period.

Ultimately I'm glad I don't have to make these decisions. I don't know what I'd do. But I feel like you have to decide to trade Brown now, or keep him forever. Trade Kopitar now, or keep him forever. Trade Drew now, or keep him forever. You get the idea. This is a key offseason. I'm not here to debate the merits of any of those moves, they just seem very self evident to me. The value of those 3 will never be higher. You'd be selling low on Toffoli, Pearson, Carter, but probably have to think about those ones as well. Same as Martinez, Muzzin, Phaneuf. I see very distinct 'tiers' of players, contracts, and ages on the roster, and this offseason's handling will be very telling about what choice Blake has made.

Blake learned under Dean. He was Dean's assistant just like Hextall.

The jury is still out on Blake, but so far I think he's pointed the franchise in the right direction, and that's what matters most.

I highly doubt Lombardi could have built a cup team if it wasn't him walking into a situation with Kopitar, Brown and Quick already being here.

I know he worked under Dean for a minute, and kept the same staff around him but I’m not sure of any NHL club was banging on the door to hire him as their GM. Same with Luc. I don’t see the plan, or identity that this team is building towards under these two. Instead, there’s a bunch of cliches thrown around while the franchise is slumping right back to the easy going beach city days where players can collect a check and lay out on the sun. The players picked their coach, play a style that is easier on their bodies etc.

I highly doubt anyone else could have walked into the same exact situation as DL and produced two cups. There wasn’t any conditioning/offseason/nutrition program. Weight room was a disaster. Development was not good. I doubt Kopitar would be a good two way center without DL, nor would we ever know about Quick with the development staff getting on him to wake up for practice in the early days.

Someone mentioned that we had Turgeon as an offensive/pp specialist/consultant of some form earlier in the season; when was the last time you heard his name?

All I know is Stevens' terrible decisions are very visible in a way I haven't seen since Marc Crawford.

Like starting the 2nd unit on the final pp? They ate up 1:30 doing nothing , starting when Kempe lost the draw.

One of the best hires Lombardi gets no credit for. Bill Ranford.

i was a big fan of kempe's blind backhand pass to the vegas player standing in the slot for the clear, personally

I was fuming at that point. Remote and empty can tossed. Call a ****ing timeout, you're not going to use it for anything else. At least use a different faceoff man. Do something.
The entire season Kempe would take offensive zone draws and at least 60% of the time he would lose them and lose them cleanly. So what does he do the biggest faceoff of the season? Uses Kempe again. How f***ing dumb can you be? At least have Kempe tie up the other guy and have the wings battle for the puck. Stevens is an awful in game coach. Zero adjustments all series. Just pray the bounces started going the Kings way and goals came. How about forcing something to happen? Quick was playing lights out. I think he could've handled more work the last two games.

What's this low you're referring to on Toffoli, Carter, Martinez and Muzzin? Are you basing this just on 4 playoff games?

Toffoli is 25, on a good contract and just came off a 24 goal season. His value would probably be similar to Tatar.

Carter should have been traded last season, but he still scored at a good pace this year and has a low cap hit. Plus he can play wing or center.

Why would Martinez or Muzzin have low value? Many teams would love to have these top 4 defensemen on 4M cap hits.

I highly doubt ownership , let alone Luc would authorize Blake to sell off core players. I would be shocked if any significant core player was moved.

I meant relative to the other guys. Brown, Kopitar, Doughty at peak value. Toffoli, Carter, Martinez, Muzzin not as much, though I guess Martinez and Muzzin both had killer years so you could lump them in with the other guys, espeically given their low cap hits. Carter I think teams will worry about his injury, Toffoli I think teams will worry about his contract status. I'm not as low on Tyler as most but you can't say you're selling high on him or Carter right now.

Like I said not trying to debate the merits of trading said players here so I don't care to split hairs on their values in this thread, I'll do that later in the roster thread all offseason I'm sure haha

Folin will probably be back if he's willing to work for peanuts. They will likely let Gravel and Mitchell go, though I wouldn't put it past them to try to hold onto Gravel, for whatever reason. That's our UFAs. They'll make Doughty a big offer and likely negotiate with him all year. He's not going to get moved in the summer. Doughty will walk away for free if he doesn't stay... It's just that simple. Yes, it shouldn't happen that way, but there's no way they will have a green light to trade him in the summer if he doesn't sign right away, especially after he may very well win his 2nd Norris.

That's honestly all the change I see. This team will come back the same, mostly. Vilardi will be the biggest addition. That's my hot take and prediction for the off-season.

I give a coaching change a 20% chance.

My days of staying up until 1:30 am to watch hockey are over. Same for living and dying for something I have absolutely no control over. Same for all the baaaaad management that has made me mutter to myself WTF! 842,000,000 times. Revisiting 2011 to 2014 will last for me until my final day. Was it worth 44 years (1974 - 2018) - absolutely. Is it worth any more - no. I need a real job and a girlfriend! I need to plug in that damn guitar. I need to get a life before the one I have is over. This obsessive need for the Los Angeles Kings is over.
