From the standpoint of not bleeding assets? Sure.

From the standpoint of winning in this core’s window (which actually ended in 2016 shh)? Not really.
The result of the season doesn't matter because they weren't going to win the cup no matter what they did. Not bleeding assets means you're gaining assets. Good asset management over a long period of time is what leads to success in this business.

It's a shitty feeling right now, but I still say we finally started moving in the right direction.
We have reached the point where not making bad trades for rentals is the silver lining to our season.
What you don't do, is just as important as what you do. Blake held on to draft picks and added significantly to the farm. That's a step in the right direction. It takes time.

I'm serious, can we hire Sutter back? Chris is still in LA, so he's still around. We might even still have him under contract LOL

Is there really any other, better coach on the market??

I just realized they had one even strength goal the entire series! And one of the goals was by a guy who played a whole 10 minutes!

What's Stevens suppose to say ? He is a players coach, that the players wanted. He is not going to through any of them under the bus.
He could just be honest. Can't win games without scoring goals. Doesn't have to single anyone out. Pretty sure we would have been fine with anyone on the team scoring. The suspension didn't matter. Forbort being out didn't matter because the defense did well. The goaltending did well. PK did well. PP and offense was awful and it should be okay for a coach to say that.

My opinion on John Stevens is, so far he is the first HUGE Mistake Blake has made.
I have my critisisms of him, but I think he's just an average coach.

My only real complaint is that if they wanted to shake things up they should have brought in someone from the outside.

Stevens could turn that around next year, if he gets these at least to the WCF. I highly doubt that though.

And now even if they fired Stevens (which I highly doubt) who is on the market that would be better? They really missed out on Gallant

They should have fired EVERYONE, including Futa.

Why go through the trouble of firing your Stanley Cup winning GM and coach to promote the B team.

The last ten minutes of that game looked like a guy struggling to take his last breathes. So painful to watch!

On a positive note i don't think we'll have to worry about Pearson or Toffoli getting a raise any time soon. The two biggest disappointments for me this season by far.

Welcome to the suck, should be a familiar place to long time fans. A lot to discuss this offseason but one thing I think we have to agree on is that Kings hockey is dead.

I wasn’t sure this was a playoff team at the start of the year, but I give credit to the highly paid veterans who bounced back and had career years. I also give credit to the coaching staff to sticking to the plan of giving vets their minutes and slotting in rookies throughout the lineup. And I give management credit for bringing in faster rookies and moving out Gaborik for Phaneuf.

Unfortunately, Vegas exposed flaws in the Kings game plan and outplayed them for like 80% of the shifts. I don’t know if strategy changes would have been enough to overcome any other differences and at least extend the series. I saw a Vegas team which dominated puck battles between the bluelines. They never played below the dots in either zone. From my memory the majority of their goals were scored from the middle of the ice. Yet they still were one goal games. Coming into tonight’s game the Kings needed the hockey gods to favor them to get a win. Ends up being book end shutouts to the series.

Brutal....

That would probably be expensive.

Last season the Kings had the highest real payroll (not cap hit) of any team in the leauge. Phil probably wasn't in the mood to spend.

Yeah no thanks. This series proved they cant dump and chase or win battles along the boards.

I think a change needs to made.

This team is stale.

I don’t see any quick fix.

I don’t see a complete rebuild as an option.

Doughty is irreplaceable but I’m tired of him running his mouth. He would be the biggest gamble to move but it would be team altering. Have to be an epic package coming back tho. He won’t be moved.

Identity of this team won’t change.

Personnel won’t change drastically.

Biggest hope is adding Vilardi and seeing if he is a difference maker.

Another problem is that Uncle Phil is so checked out there’s no one left to hold Luc/Blake accountable.

Most owners never want to rebuild, because rebuild = less money.

So Luc will continue to Grima Wormtongue his way into Uncle Phil’s ear, and we’ll be rewatching this movie again next year, and the year after that, and the year after that.
