So... I guess it doesn't really matter that the Oilers were able to score a bunch of goals.
Everything will have to go right for the Oilers to win against this Avs team. They've proven that they can put pucks in the net, but they'll have to play over their heads to make a series out of it.

So again I'll ask - who said that the Oilers D could easily absorb the Avs offense?

Colorado in 7.

This is probably going to end up being the highest scoring Playoff series in NHL history.
Those Avs goalies will blow it. Francouz and who's the backup for him? Hunter Miska is what I found on google.
I'm dying to hear Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiska! Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiska! Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiska!

Joe Sakic should be fired for not find a legit #1 goalie. Every season Oilers fans talk about firing Holland and previous GMs about not finding a #1 goalie. I can't imagine what Avs fan think about Sakic.

Manson was responsible for at least 2, and just had an awful game altogether. He gets a pass though because he was unbelievable in game 6 vs. the Blues. Kuemper was responsible for 1.5 at least. Murray should come in for JJ, the Girard loss will be felt more in this series. Credit the Oilers in the 3rd pressing hard, but I'm not worried about the Avs D if the Oiler's D continues to play like that. If it weren't for Koskinen there might have been 10 on the board.

So it only applies when Oilers have a bad game not the Avs? Both teams were terrible defensively and goalie wise.
Both teams can and will be better defensively. I think as long as Colorado doesn’t fall into the same trap that Calgary fell in, they will win the series. Hell they have a good chance if they fall into it.

That said I could see goaltending deciding the series. McDavid and Draisaitl will get 2-3 points a game so as long as Colorado can shut down the other 3 lines and score 3-4 (which is doable) they will win.

Basically, imho, Mike Smith decides this series.

I'm not even an Avs fan, good for Edmonton for scoring 6, but allowing 8 is ridiculous. Their team and D is being exposed now that they're finally playing against decent competition.

That Oilers blue line is ugly, you're not winning a cup with that. Nurse is supposed to be the #1 guy and he looked like a #4D, no goaltending/no defence, this will be a very short series.
To be fair, Calgary scored 9 against Edmonton in game 1 of their series. I’m confident that the Oilers will come out with a better defensive effort in game 2.

Regardless I expect to continue to see a fun and high-scoring series the rest of the way.

Colorado came out playing so well defensively and played McDrai so tight then all hell broke loose for some reason.

It's like Edmonton's defensive play is so bad that teams can't resist trying to take advantage of it and it ends up opening up the game.

Where I an oilers fan, I might not be so quick to laugh at the notion of blueliners that can complete a pass.

:naughty:
One thing you are unlikely to find is an Oiler fan bragging about the team's defense. Unlike a certain fanbase who was claiming the Oilers hadn't seen a defense like the Aves yet lol.

I mean, the Avs needed a bogus offside call to win them a game and still almost blew it

Avs defense is overrated

1 empty net goal
1 refs gifting them a goal
1 pp goal off that challenge of a gift

How do you explain the oilers outscoring the Avs clean winning it 6-5?

Funny how things work here. "scored on 8 times". You must be excited about that 8th goal of the game by the Avs and wondered how the oilers goalie was completely caught out of position for that one.
Standard blame the refs

Pretty much. If Colorado plays tight hockey and doesn’t try to play fun fast paced hockey they can completely control the series, if they try track meet hockey it’s risky cause with their goaltending and how McDrai have played, you are relying on your team to outscore them and The Mike Smith coin toss landing in the Avs favour every game.

Have you tried asking a third time?

I don't mind seeing the "Avs are overrated" takes at least Oilers know that they can hang with the Avs. But to think that Oilers is the only team that had a down game defensively is being clueless. Kuemper let in some weak goals so did Smith. Nurse looked terrible defensively yes so is that Manson-JJ pairing. It will be up to coaches to adjust I guess.

It is too bad on that horse manure offside goal call, but the Oilers have to play better at the start of the game.
