Would like to point out Josh Manson managed to be -4 when no other player on either team was worse than -2. Please scratch him. Also made a couple horrible passes and was completely useless many other times.

I mean, they had an expected goals of just 2.89

But yes Jack Johnson did play and was directly responsible for at least 2 Oilers goals. Hopefully he is not in the lineup for game 2.
What about the 4 that Manson was responsible for?

There were only 4 penalties that game and the score was still 8-6. Maybe the intensity wouldn’t have been as high in a regular season contest but that game could’ve easily been 12-10 with a few more calls.

How are the eastern conference teams supposed to even compete without being allowed to hook n grab? The NHL should just let the finals be played without any refs, the players can police themselves...

So this is the defense that's good enough to absorb what the Avs can dish out while their offense just outscores them?

So many Oilers fans crying that the refs lost them this game lmao, you got scored on 8 times in a playoff game, the issue is not officiating. This is going to be a 4-5 game series.
And you guys got scored on 6 times by the Oilers in a playoff game where the Oilers scored 3 goals without McDavid or Draisaitl on the ice. It was a 1 goal game before the empty netter. Neither team was good, being cocky after that is kind of embarrassing.

Good to see that elite Avs D in action.

I'm not claiming that the Oilers are even in their league, but that display was...underwhelming...after all of the pre-series hype. The Oilers D, on the other hand, were as advertised.
Oilers D are atrocious, they couldn't break the puck out and their transition game was non existent. Defensively, they gave up over 20 scoring chances. The scary thing is I'm not even sure if they can play better. This makes what McJesus and Drai are doing incredible. Colorado's D had some bad moments, Toews didn't play well, but 5v5, Colorado was so much better than Edmonton. Even in the 3rd period, Colorado out chanced Edmonton during their push.

I don't actually have much issue with the Makar goal counting, but I will say that is a very weird double standard the NHL employs where a player can be onside with both feet over the blue line while in possession of a puck that is outside of the zone, but is not also offside if in possession of the puck inside the zone on a delayed offside. The NHL has always been so awful at writing and interpreting their own rules though that this doesn't really surprise me lol.

Edmontons defence can absolutely play better and they have. Colorados defence can play better too

That's just a loser Leafs fan, don't bother.

Edmonton’s blueline really struggles to move the puck effectively with any consistency. We all know this, but it’s tough to watch, especially when you’re rooting for them. They don’t have anyone even in the vicinity of a #1.

And I know he scored and has been very effective at finding the back of the net in the playoffs, but Kane has to be one of the worst forwards at turning the puck over/not getting it deep when you’re team is changing. I swear it seems like once a game he does this. Has to be maddening as a coach.

I always thought the Avs D was “control the puck in the other teams zone all game” rather than in zone. That all their Dmen can carry the puck up the ice well so there’s 5 guys who can take it

If your pressure them (or get them reeling. Not sure what was happening more) you can stop them from moving the puck out quickly and they struggle

Great game and should be a hilarious series.

No vitriol for Avs fans, but I’m sure it was interesting for them to see how the Oilers can suck any team into their shinny vortex.

Oh please. We gave up a 3 goal advantage to the Blues in no time flat. As if we need to get sucked into the Oilers' nonsense to blow any lead. The nerve of some people.

This is kind of a mirror image of game 1 against Calgary. They looked like they had zero idea how to defend or break a puck out and then played much better defence for the remainder of the series. They're not a great defence, but they can play a lot better than they did tonight. Same goes for the Avs on the defending side.
