Lol and hf with "the oilers never faced a defence like aves"

You’re right, not a great night as a whole for the d core, thankfully they still won even though they were subpar and Kuemper was a sieve. As said all along, jack johnson will get turnstiled and it was seen as he and Manson were solidly outplayed. The rest of the d core played exactly as advertised but let’s make grandiose presumptions!

Nice to see Makar and Toews put up the same amount of points as Mcdavid and Draisaitl. Funny that, if only those “lol” worthy defencemen could do it outside of garbage time and could contribute to a win.

One thing you are unlikely to find is an Oiler fan bragging about the team's defense. Unlike a certain fanbase who was claiming the Oilers hadn't seen a defense like the Aves yet lol.
Explaining a joke is like dissecting a frog, the thing dies and nobody is that interested...except for biologists; luckily for you, I am a biologist!

Since the Aves's blueliners being so dangerous in transition, while Edmonton's were so impotent, was what decided game 1; there's a delightful irony to Oilers fans continuing to not see the value of having blueliners that can move the puck from their own zone into the opposing one.

I only watched the last third of the game, so I missed all his offense but I was surprised to see Makar make some really bad defensive plays. I was somewhat less surprised to see multiple really bad Nurse defensive plays.

The Avs defended decently on the rush but they looked helpless on the cycle imo.
Agreed similar to how Vegas played against the Avs. Luckily for us Byram and EJ showed up tonight they played good hockey.

Oilers probably win that game if Smith doesn't give up a touchdown in the first.
Looks to be a fun one.

Hell, if they didn't challenge and give up the PPG, potentially tie game and OT instead of ENG.

Could would shoulda though.....

To be fair, Calgary scored 9 against Edmonton in game 1 of their series. I’m confident that the Oilers will come out with a better defensive effort in game 2.

Regardless I expect to continue to see a fun and high-scoring series the rest of the way.

This is true, but does anyone objectively feel like Calgary is as good a team as Colorado?

Gentlemen’s sweep coming up.

The Avs are very beatable for the Oilers, the Oilers had an absolutely horrific game and still showed crazy heart to battle back and nearly tied it.

Oilers in 5.
You may be right about a sweep. Just picked the wrong team.

I think Oilers fans can see the value and know Colorado has a better defence, it’s just funny that with how hyped up they were, they had a bad game 1 defensively and the Oil scored 6 is all. Of course they are normally much better.

Game looked as about expected for me, Avs are the better team and will probably continue to dominate the advanced stats, but shaky goaltending makes any game winnable for the other team.

Similar to St Louis Edmonton would really benefit from the games turning into a Toronto/Tampa penalty fest, if that happens I think they win easily. Colorado is both bad on the penalty kill and Edmonton is terrific on the pp. If it stays 5 on 5 Colorado is likely to win in 5 or 6. A team having 63% of the scoring chances is just unlikely to lose barring getting goalied.

Games in Edmonton will also be much more interesting, have to think Woodcroft wants McDavid away from Mackinnon 5 on 5 if he can get it.

I think it's a wash if it turns into a penalty fest, both teams have phenomenal powerplays. Edmonton might have a better PK, but Colorado has so much firepower and they're at a 35% clip in the postseason this year.

The MacKinnon line outplayed the McDavid line, as long as that keeps happening Colorado will win the series.
