Oilers have had numerous instances of curtailing the opposing teams offence when holding a lead in the later parts of the game during this run. I don't think they've received enough credit for this part of their run

Oilers have held the Stars to 25 or fewer shots in 3/4 games and did the same to Vancouver (who was 6th in goals for this year) in 6/7 games.

This old fashioned narrative that they can't defend is simply false.

Six years of shoddy goaltending will teach you how to defend.

In years past the Oilers totally would have folded after choking away the last game and getting down early last night but they overcame and battled back.

If they can limit their mistakes and the PP wakes up I like their chances. Dallas has been working their defensive core hard and are showing signs they might be gassing out a bit, if Tanev misses any time or isn’t 100% it’s not going to get any easier.

Seems like a toss up at this point with neither team showing an advantage.

Mark wants to go on summer vacation, can the Oilers stop winning already

I mean, he was right at the time......which is rare enough for him.

Dallas just took their foot off the gas and had no answer for the Oilers once they got rolling. Losing Tanev, as mentioned earlier, made it even tougher for a team that was already limited on the back end.

Friday's going to be interesting. I think whoever takes that game will win the series.

He was right, but to pump out a tweet like that so quickly, you just know he was watching with glee until the Oilers tied it up. Game 5 will be a big one, I agree.

It's still funny to see how many people are surprised the Oilers are decent or can't even credit them. It's like the stereotype of the team from 3 or 4 years ago won't die and them having the best record in the league since November is just ignored.

I'm not saying they win it all or even get out of the series, but all you degenerates (and it's not even Dallas fans for the most part) need to actually start paying attention.

Went out to watch the game the other night and decided I am watching the rest at home because of all the Flame and Canuck fans laughing about the Oilers losing. Like, get a grip you drunk buffoons, your teams are done. Don't pretend you are some long serving Dallas fan.
Part of being a sports fan is relishing in the misery of your rivals and teams you hate. No problem with that.

Did you look at the Oilers and think "this is a good team"? Or "they just want to win more"?

The second one.

I already know they've got elite skill on that roster, yet for the most part Dallas was able to keep them in check all series......last night though after going up 2-0 it just felt like Dallas couldn't push any more or test Skinner nearly as much in the final 50 minutes like they did in the first 10. :dunno:

Their defense and goaltending is still very suspect at times. But their offense is other-worldly- and McDrai aren't the only ones driving it.

Do you think your dudes are tired out? Miro is playing insane minutes, only rivaled by Colorado's first line.

Either way, I still think the series is going to 7.

Makes my job easier, when the Oilers win. Lol.

I dunno, When my teams are out I just watch as a casual fan with no horse in the race or switch to baseball, lol.

Jumping on the bandwagon is one thing, but are you jumping on because that team is playing your most hated rival? Some folks don’t care about Dallas winning, they care more about Edmonton losing, if that makes sense.

Never a truer statement was uttered on this board.

The most popular post on the Mains for the first TWO MONTHS of this season was the "Are the Oilers in danger of missing the playoffs" thread (which was was eventually renamed.... [read here]). Lots of fans love to pile on when Edmonton is down.

It's been pretty interesting to go from the decade of darkness (where everyone felt it necessary to revel in our failures), to the Hall years (where a caustic mixture of Oilfan hope met opposing fan jealousy, at least initially, given all the 1sts) and then now onto the McDavid years (where opposing fans, mostly accurately, remind us daily how we are wasting McD's prime years).

At least we are able to compete with a top team in the league... hopeful it continues, finals would be a huge, huge victory given the start we had and the obvious gaps we couldn't plug (no cap) at the deadline.

Of course they are. Dallas was rolling 5 d-men all through the Colorado series and somehow made it past them, and now again against Edmonton they're running a skeleton crew which is going to be tested big time if Tanev misses any time.

Swapping him out for Nils Lundkvist isn't ideal but it's what Dallas might have to do, which will change their gameplan as the league's top shot blocker isn't exactly easy to replace.

I absolutely do. The only thing I've been impressed with is their PK, but also equally unimpressed with Dallas' PP.

See unlike the casual fans here, I don't live and die with every win/loss. I have a little thing called conviction.

Were you actually impressed with the Oilers' last night? All I saw was a team that wanted to win more, not a better team.
Edmonton has been the better team at 5v5 in 3 of the 4 games.

The team that “wants to win more” is usually the better team in that regard

His departure from the game was 100% a turning point, but please continue to show us all how many stats you watch. :biglaugh:
It was already tied, and Tanev would not have been on the ice for the 3-2 or 4-2 goals. I won't suggest it's not a big loss, but it wasn't a turning point.

Series is a tossup without Tanev, no surprise the wheels fell off as soon as he went down. Petrovic and Suter were way overexposed after that, and both did not elevate their game.
2for1pizzapasta was incredibly kind enough to let you off the hook but my man over there wasn't!
