I mean c'mon... we have only been responding to the prevailing HF wisdom around here:
2018-2020: Oilers can't even make the playoffs
2020: Oilers still can't even make the playoffs, the play-ins are not playoffs
2021: Oilers can't win a game in the playoffs
2022: Oilers can't even win a game against any real teams, Calgary (being 6th in NHL) doesn't count
2023: Oilers maybe won a game or two vs Vegas, but still can't beat good teams and haven't won a game past 2nd round
2024: It doesn't matter one bit that Edmonton lost to cup champs two years running... Oilers still haven't beaten a good team (Van, being 6th, still doesn't count)...

But heck, at least we managed to win a game in the third round. It's baby steps for us OilFans right?
Ironic you are completely ignoring how for the last few years Oiler fans here have proudly stated "this is our year" or how McDavid said "Cup or bust" this year. Every year the same aspect of the Oilers fails them, goaltending and defense. And it wont change until that is addressed. Until the Oilers fix those issues, they will never be a legitimate cup threat.

I think most posters see the Oilers as a very good team with their two superstars and some other great players. It’s not disrespectful to say that some don’t see them as Cup favourites given their D, goaltending and depth compared to the other 3 teams still left. It’s also not disrespectful to say that they had the easiest path to the Final four of any of the teams left.
That said, reaching the Final four is not easy as every team that makes the playoffs is a solid team and the Oilers could definitely win the Cup as anything can happen is sports and they are a very good team. I just don’t see them as the favourite amongst four very good teams that are left.

Ekholm may go down as one of Hollands best acquisitions EVER, he gave Edmonton a good true #1 but failed to do anything beyond that.

Now in theory no one expected Nurse to drop off a cliff and be THIS bad, the contract was always terrible but the player was passable, now he’s both one of the worst contracts in the league and one of the worst defenders in the league.

This... While I got the gamble on Stu as he's excellent most the time... Needed a good backup. I cannot fathom any team in the NHL winning a cup with Ceci playing 20 a night or more. He'd be a tremendous third pair guy for a cup run... Just like kulak is.

Huge game. Dallas wins and we are cooked. And it feels like the road warrior stars will win.

Nurse, Ceci and Skinner... Maybe next year's playoffs after we sign some more forwards to fix this.
You’re already paying Brown 3 million, should just sign him for league minimum!

Problem with Ekholm is there is only one of them. They needed Ekholm to cover up Bouchards warts and make him a everyday playable defenseman. They need an Ekholm for Nurse now.

I'm seeing most Edmonton fans in this thread coming at this from the "we're beating ourselves" angle. It really is downplaying what the opposition is doing to them, and how they are making them make mistakes. Also, the mental strength is clearly stronger with one team.

The series isn't over at all. Oil could still win. But admitting that you are getting beaten by a team that went to last year's WCF is ok.

I dont think thats true. Every oiler fan on HfOil gave all the credit in the world to Dallas before the series even started. Many knew it was a longshot to begin with.

I think what you are seeing the disappointment of Oiler fans seeing their team match this amazing team for large stretches of the game, only for the same weaknesses that defeat them every year rear their ugly head. That doesnt mean they dont think Dallas isnt a wagon, or capable of turning it on and dominating stretches. Its just painful to watch the same weaknesses and idiotic roster decisions help decide games.

Uh... Brooklyn!
kinda feel bad for Stecher and his bunk ankle, woulda been interesting to see him fair by taking the spot of Nurse or Desharnais, that duo is straight up panic room button, total shellshocked

Baby steps, indeed. Final four team for the second time in 3 years with a bottom 5 defence and goaltender (according to the geniuses on here) is actually quite the accomplishment.

Final four team but fans of our two previous round opponents would rather defecate on themselves than give credit to the Oilers.
