He talked to Laine and watched him closely during the warm up...
"Hei Pate, how do you snipe this awesome wrister?"

Later, at the faceoff..."Kiitos."

I don't know where Ippe's continuous Rantanen hate comes from. Not scoring in your first NHL games? That's something nobody cares about in the long run and doesn't indicate a thing of how your career pans out.

Rantanen is a complete package. He's not Patrik Laine, but then again no one is. He has that all-star potential and tonight's goal was the first of many to come. Glad for the kid and still a bit bittern for the Avalanche not letting him slip one more spot..

He's in a good place to succeed nevertheless, which is all that matters.

The kid is good. He's been Colorado's best player since coming in this year so he passes the eye test. And he's an advanced stats wizard. As somebody on the Avs board pointed out, it's only a matter of time before the stats loves take notice of what he's doing.

Looked good to me. He was generating chances and looks like a possession monster, just great along the walls.

Really nice snipe ! He seemed dangerous for the opponents! heard his mackinnon and landeskogs name the most in last game against winnipeg.

Finally getting some quality ice time. Still only 7 games this year over 17+ mins this season. I expect more to come, he is still only a draft + 1 player. Floodgates now open?

He's been on that line with MacKinnon the whole time. Mikko doesn't PK, that's the only difference really.

He looked more relaxed after the goal and trying to do more with the puck, should be more good things to come.

Quite the difference to the mins Roy was giving him last year. I expect Rantanen to be more Barkov in adjusting to the NHL rather than Laine's quick adjustment. Development is not linear for all players. He will be fine. It was only a matter of time.

Beautiful snipe, with a nice patience.

He was showing last night again why I'm so high on him and his potential. Looking forward to watching how he grows this year.

He's a draft+2 player, but I agree that this year he has looked real good. He has a lot of great physical attributes along with some axing hockey skills. Him and Jost could be a deadly combo in 2 or 3 years from now.

draft +2, and born ~a month away from being a draft +3

Anyone notice how dominant he was after that goal? You could see it in his play that the monkey was off his back. Looked so poised to finish that game. Had a CF% of 90% or something crazy.

In the games I've seen, he has been a force. He will put up a lot of points in the long run playing like this.

Rantanen was drafted last year, this is his 1 + sophomore year. Not sure how this is his 2nd year since he was drafted?

It depends how you look at it. If you look that his draft year is the year when he wasn't drafted yet, it's draft +2. If you look at the whole year, not just the season, it would be draft +1. I'm pretty sure this is his draft +1 tho.

That's exactly how I look at it. And in previous discussions of other prospects draft + 1 means a player is in his sophomore year after being drafted not his drafted year. Rantanen is in his sophomore year. draft + 1.

It really doesn´t, he was too young for the 2014 draft, available and drafted in 2015.

2015-2016 being his draft year. 2016-2017 = draft +1.

How is this a discussion?
