Probably. Unless Barky doesn't want one. Then it could be Aho also. Ristolainen is the most obvious one to me. Possibly even the C over Rants?

Rantanen seems like a A guy for the national team, Barkov could be the C with Ristolainen being close 2nd on that voting. Franchise 2way C just feels like the choice, a la Kopitar, Toews, Koivus'. Aho is 4th in line.

Rantanen is one of my favorite players. Future team Finland captain.

Oh definitely, has to be either Rantanen or Ristolainen.

Barkov is a bit too shy and Laine's not gonna lead by example; imagine Laine going "ok guys, just pass it to me i got this"

The only thing with Barkov is that he seems to feel more comfortable not being the main vocal focus on the team. Obviously this is just my projection but I could see him saying that he feels Rantanen or Ristolainen should take the spot over him.

I do think Barkov will be the most important player to our team though.

Regarding Laine in Saros' post, I don't see him being the captain either. Laine is a bit oddball. Our quirky sniper who is best to be left alone to do what he does.

He's basically running Colorado's powerplay right now. Making a lot of good things happen with the puck, 2 assists already tonight.

I watched Floridas game last year and Barkov seemed to be the leader on the ice and when Jokinen was injured this season he had A on his chest.
I know many disagree with me on that but I have that feeling he could be the next.

But for Rants, he sure looks like a max 3rd liner :sarcasm:
The kid already looks like a 1st liner, but with the sample size he can't be called one.
I guess it's now 7 points in the last 7 games for him.

Funny how the people who bash prospects the hardest tend to disappear when they do well. Anyone who knew anything about basic analytics knew Rantanen would turn it around, unless he was David Clarkson bad playing with 2 other David Clarkson's, which anyone watching the Avs knew he wasn't.

Probably the best Avalanche forward in my book. The smartest, and the best passer for sure. All our other players are idiots with and without the puck.

He needs to be an all-star for this team to be any good.

Definitely.
A problem is that very few probably even watch these prospects play but pretend to be experts here and love to call prospects/rookies bust after few games without points.
In Finland Rantanen has been very underrated, all the media focus was/has been around Laine, Pulju, Aho.

I said year ago that he's like bigger, faster version of Loui Eriksson, he's so smart, for his age has elite protection and can skate.

Anyway, I do believe so far that Rantanen most probably will become a pretty good 3rd liner for the NHL. But honestly I can't see a much brighter future for him in the NHL, unless he developes his shot a lot, gets a lot more intensity to his game and more physicality and mean streak to his game. But this is my opinion. Anyone is free to disagree and have their own opinions.

So how's this "third liner" thing looking for you?

Anyways, Rantanen is an absolute treat to watch out there. He is probably the best passer on the team at 19 years old, and is so smooth.

This.

It's so refreshing to watch a player with puck poise. He makes everything seems so effortless too.

Duchene, Mack, and Landy are all great but none of them have figured out taking a few extra seconds is sometimes the best play. Honestly, if Rantanen keeps this up i'll hope all three of them can learn from him.

He's getting more comfortable, it's such a treat to watch someone with that great hockey sense and puck skill. Once his teammates learn the type of plays he likes to make things will get even better. It's good Mikko's play is finally getting rewarded with some points but it was a matter of time.

Seems like he's providing the Brain for Mackinnon to be effective again, Hopefully these guys play together for a long time coming.

Still my dark horse for the Calder race. Whenever he starts producing in a league, he seems to not hit many slumps. In a reasonably good case I could still see him hitting 50 points, if he holds his current pace, even more.

I kind of see a finnish crosby in ranta:3

0 points in his first 13 NHL games (most of which he played 4th line minutes)
8 points in his next 10

That changed today...the hottest rookie is not Laine, Aho or Pulju..

Like some of the Avs fans in here have said, he isn't playing much better than he did in his early games, but he is finally rewarded on the scoresheet. Ever since he got called up he has been an outright dominant possession player. A treat to watch, and finally a high-end player of ours who has a very high hockey IQ.

Wonder where that guy bashing Rantanen is now... probably waiting for a cold streak

Yep, the floodgates have opened for Mikko. He is starting to resemble the player that was putting up over a PPG in SA in the AHL last year. Most of us that posted in his thread and the polls knew he was just too talented to not score in the NHL. It's good to see a coach give him 18+ mins this year.

It was good Roy got fired for Rantanen since he didnt want to give him the chanse he deserved, nevertheless Roy was a horrible coach imo

A goal and an assist so far and the second period isn't even over. This kid has been amazing. He's been pretty much our best player lately and seems to be consistent night in and night out.

He has been great no doubt. Most consistent player all season and the points are finally coming.

What happend to Ippenator . He sure went quiet quickly lol
