15 points in 28 games on a lousy avs team. From the games Ive watched he's looked solid but would like him to see him get more 1timer chances on the PP.

lolol lets hope we can stay civil here. I'd like to hear more from ppl who've watched him more on how he's doing.

He's been doing well especially considering the state of the team and down to basically averaging just 2 goals per game. He got his shoulder a bit banged up in Toronto a couple weeks ago but he's been playing through it. 3rd on the team in scoring even after missing the start of the season. Contributing on the top line every night, pretty much what we'd hoped for. He could stand to shoot more and he has a nice shot but otherwise his game has translated really well. If the team ever improved he'd be putting up numbers that would get the mainstream media's attention.

The Avs are a mess right now, but Rantanen has been a bright light this season. When the team shows some semblance of direction. His game will be even better. He has had the unfortunate circumstance of playing with San Antionio and Colorado. 2 struggling teams since coming over from Finland. And despite this, he has still looked good.

In Finland he played for TPS, which was by far the worst team in FEL at the time... I think he hasn't played in a single good team during his professional career .
Is he cursed? :sarcasm:

The Avs have scored 51 goals in the 28 games since Rantanen joined the team back in October.

He's got points on 15 of those 51 goals. Basically 30% of the teams goals in other words. Not to shabby for the rookie.

If the Avs were a middle of the pack scoring team this year Rants would probably be between 20-25 points through the 28 games instead. He's been the catalyst along with Duchene and Mackinnon for pretty much all of our offense.

The 2015 draft is going to go down as one of the best. We are only a year and a half removed from it.

A lot of players from this draft are still developing. As we see with Rantanen. Started out slow but you his production is picking up. He's not done developing.

Is there a reason for that?

Dunno. Just a small market team I guess. Look at Jost, top ten pick last season, gets zero talk about him. Zadorov, so many times I've seen people think we're not going to protect him, Bob MacKenzie thinking he's a bust thus far, etc etc etc.

I like it though.

He's going to be a good one. Hat trick last night, if Colorado ever got it together he'd be one of their brightest lights.

No surprise considering he's an Avs prospect. Once you become Avs property you instantly lose all hype.
Not true at all. It may not be a vocal fanbase, but there was a lot of hype about Rantanen last year, and don't get started on how hyped Mackinnon, Landeskog and Duchene got as rookies.

I feel every fan base feels this way. I can't think of one fan base where prospects get unfairly looked over. The amount of positive to negative opinions relatively stays the same regardless of teams, just the proportion of such posts vary by the size of the fan base. For example, Leafs prospects get an insane amount of hype, but also get an insane amount of unnecessary bashing.

No, it's definitely a thing. Unless it's a top 5 pick, any player that we draft the interest and talk around him goes off a cliff.

Rantanen was talked about an insane amount last year vs Nylander due to his AHL numbers. Hype may go down, but I don't think it affects the overall view of the player by most. People just pay more attention to their own team. Plus, who have the Avs really had to hype outside of top picks recently? People are quiet on Jost, but its not liking he's destroying college hockey or had a great WJC (still a good prospect). No one else has really been worthy of much hype outside of Rantanen.

It's just a market thing. Prospects get hype than they get drafted by teams. Teams that don't get alot of media attention or that not many pay attention too obviously receive less attention which = less hype.

Colorado is a smaller market. Mostly been average to awful outside of one season for awhile. Therefore when comparing prospects to other teams you'll probably feel slighted. Not really the case just how it goes in sports. Happens in every sport. Right now Zadorov is the biggest one. He's the reason Avs fans are still watching. Nobody's watching Colorado for obvious reasons, thus Zadorov gets less hype. Same with Rants.

Mackenzie gets paid to talk about some hockey, no way he's saying a 21 year old defenseman is a bust already :D there are many 21 year old d who haven't even played in the nhl but Zadorov gets to be the bust.

Every fanbase thinks this about themselves. You're not special.

Yeah. Alot are delusional. Small market teams, especially bad small market teams are just speaking the truth. It's the same in the NBA or NFL. Average fans don't care about irrelevant teams especially ones in markets that aren't popular among the media ala the Avs.

Avs will generate interest now with the trade deadline because of Duchene and big markets like Montreal being interested in there players. After that they'll fall off the map again. It's there own fault.

Whatever team you root for decides it. It's like hockey in Canada generates more interest than in America. Obviously prospects in those areas are going get more attention.
