I would like to hear Ippenator's assesment of his season so far

I have to admit that he has been for sure better than I have thought of him. He is starting to show more of the attitude that I didn't see from him before. Still a way to go to be a real star player. But if he continues developing in the way that he has, he might even get there. And I for sure will be very happy if he will make it. He has definitely developed his shooting, whatever someone here claims. Sure he also has been shooting more often. But compared to last year his shooting technique is also better, which makes it easier for him to shoot from more different situations and with less time. Also his shooting technique being clearly better, has given his shot some more power also.

I have nothing against Rantanen when he has started to show some real attitude with his playing. But I have always immensly disliked extremely talented players whom have lacked the certain real killer instinct and whom don't seem to have the real ambitious attitude for developing their weaknesses. I'm in fact very happy that I most probably have been wrong with Rantanen. I will leave still a slight doubt in the back of my mind, but for sure it does look good for him at the moment. :handclap:

Even if they make trades and bring youth up, they still aren't very interesting. I watched them at the beginning of the year because I love MacKinnon when he was on, and I truly thought he would break out after the WHC. I also wanted to see more of Rantanen due to the AHL hype. I mean, Bigras, Wood, and Greer are interesting prospects, but not enough to intrigue most fans. Maybe, if they signed Jost and played him I would check out for that, but even then it's questionable. Next year could be interesting if they make some trades for high-level youth players and get a top 2 pick. Glad to see Rantanen is somewhat producing on a terrible team.

About Wood...sigh. No, I wouldn't advise anyone who isn't an Avs fan to watch that team. Maybe next year, we'll see. Plus, I'm not that confident there is going to be a youth movement anyway.

Sorry about that, forgot he was moved. That is an ugly trade. At least you don't have a fall sense of being in a playoff chase this year for Sakic to do that again.

I know, blessing in disguise. Worst position to be in is that group chasing the playoff bubble.

When guys like Rantanen enter their prime, Finland's national team is going to have a nice set of wingers; Rantanen, Laine, Aho, Puljujärvi, Granlund, Lehkonen, Kapanen, Armia + Tolvanen, Vesalainen.

Ironically, while Granlund is finally switching to winger in the NHL he might have to go center in the national team.

Koivu, Filppula, Lehterä and Komarov (sometimes a centerman) all will not be part of that core.

Barkov will be the clear number one guy. Teravainen could play center. After those two, who does Finland have in the future?

Haula and Borgstrom probably?

Barkov,
Aho,
TT/Borgstrom
Haula
should do it.

Rantanen was a center while he played for TPS and he's won 33 of the 57 face-offs he's taken in the NHL. Small sample size, but 57% is a decent success rate considering how much young players usually struggle with face-offs.

It would be actully sick for our NT, If Rantanen switched back to center, but it's hard to see that happening considering how weak the RW is for Colorado and how good Duchene and MacKinnon are in face-offs. I would love to see Rantanen as our 2nd line center in the 2022 olympics.

On international ice Granlund could play center again. And Aho was quite good at the WJC. Rants has played center, too.
And we all know Laine can play any position from goalie to center. ;)

Funny, a few years ago Finland had to move centers on the wings and now it will be the other way round.

To be honest, MacKinnon should go RW and Rantanen center in my opinion.

The guy literally creates constant scoring chances all game, his line mates just can't finish anything.

He's been their best forward lately.

Scored his 15th and 16th last game. I know his rookie season will get lost among the other strong rookies this season and the dumpster fire that is the Avs but he's done well this season.

Elite franchise center? Naw. A possible star player in the making? Yeah.

Very strong on his skates, has the size, skill and IQ to be a complete player. His stickhandling looks great and I honestly got some Forsberg-vibes from those videos posted above.

Not the case unfortunately.
