Dunno. Just a small market team I guess. Look at Jost, top ten pick last season, gets zero talk about him. Zadorov, so many times I've seen people think we're not going to protect him, Bob MacKenzie thinking he's a bust thus far, etc etc etc.

I like it though.

What is there to talk about? He's at UND and barely over a ppg. He also only put up 4 points in 7 games at WJC. I'm surprised Pronman had Jost over Kaprizov in his last rankings list...

No, it's definitely a thing. Unless it's a top 5 pick, any player that we draft the interest and talk around him goes off a cliff.

It happens to every team. The Pens are about as "big market" as it gets in the States, and the rest of the league barely noticed when Matt Murray was setting records down in the AHL.

It's not for other fanbases to determine, especially those in the east. How much do y'all hear about AJ Greer or JC Beaudin? Those guys deserve hype and if they were prospects of big market or Canadian teams they'd get a lot more. Our prospect pool gets ranked pretty low too, I think it's closer to mid pack than the ~25 it generally gets. That said, Mikko got a lot of talk last year, not as much this year but I get the team's performance has a lot to do with that.

How much do you know about Jake Guentzel, Scott Wilson, or Oskar Sundqvist? How much did you know about Sheary or Rust before last year?

Every team has prospects that the fanbase likes that get little attention from fans around the league.

Mikko Rantanen has 10 points in his last 12 games. Just scored last night too. Has second most goals in Avs team this year and just two behind Duchene for the team lead.

His skating is good and his shot is very underrated. I believe he isn't a prospect for long anymore, but wanted to say he looks to be progressing very well.

I expect him to score 50+ points next season. And that should be very realistic estimation. What a gem.

He's really good. Big fan of his skating and stick handling.

He can go through you any way.

He'll be a solid 20+ goalscorer for a long time. I hope Avs get their **** together so he can shine, too.

I pretty much thought his shot is his weakness. He has been releasing some nice shots this season, either he worked on it or I was totally wrong.

There is no reason why he wouldn't be 25+40 type player in few years.

You were totally wrong. Kid doesn't use it enough when he's not feeling himself, but he's got an excellent shot.

Said the same thing about him that I said about Barkov (and I loved them both since their draft years): The only thing holding him back is that "I want to be, and can be, the man" attitude. For Barkov I think the switch turned on when they added Jagr and whether Jagr said something to him, or if Barkov just realized that the 2 of them (and Huberdeau) could flat out dominate shifts...something just clicked.

The last few weeks it's been the same with Rantanen. He's always had a shot but now he feels secure enough and enough of "the guy' to use it and not defer. I feel like earlier he was happy to sit on the side boards and make a pretty pass to someone else, but now he's willing to use his 1 timer or come off the halfwall and attack.

He's going to be an excellent player.

Kid is a gem, looks comfortable out there lately, makes smart plays, plays an honest game and is rewarded for it. He's going to be a star in a couple of years.

Excuse me Mr. Doughty while I pick your pocket and then proceed to do this.

Man, he is good. He's completely slipped my mind due to Laine hype. Finland is producing great players again.

This kid is flying under the radar with matthews and laine, etc.

Sweet goal!

How is it that this guy is still in the prospects thread?

ps. please do a better job moderators. I implore you :help:

holy what a a shot

I may have to start staying up late to watch Avs games again

You probably won't enjoy that very much. The team is painful to watch, maybe things change after the deadline if some deadweight gets cut n some more kids come up, but atm it's pretty brutal.

Even if they make trades and bring youth up, they still aren't very interesting. I watched them at the beginning of the year because I love MacKinnon when he was on, and I truly thought he would break out after the WHC. I also wanted to see more of Rantanen due to the AHL hype. I mean, Bigras, Wood, and Greer are interesting prospects, but not enough to intrigue most fans. Maybe, if they signed Jost and played him I would check out for that, but even then it's questionable. Next year could be interesting if they make some trades for high-level youth players and get a top 2 pick. Glad to see Rantanen is somewhat producing on a terrible team.
