Again 0+0 for Rantanen and -2. But who cares as he was again amazing and clearly the best player on the ice. His skating is so majestic and elegant and his passes so elegant and crisp that it is only the fault of his linemates that he has no points in 4 games even this season. Even if his linemates have been Duchene and McKinnon and he is getting 17 minutes per game to show what he can really do, it must be all the fault of his linemates and horrible puck luck. Mikko is so amazing and wonderful talent that even if he goes through the whole season with 0+0, none of it is his fault. He has shown his class already by dominating in the AHL, so it is clear that with all his AHL points and such majestic skating and wonderful passing skills he will have a massively successful season even if he gets 0+0 for the whole season, as he is anyway such a wonderful defensive forward despite having teams second worst plus/minus (-5) in just 4 games.

Who cares that he has the teams lowest points and second worst +-? Those stats are only results anyway, and they show nothing about how majestic Mikko's skating is and how dominating he is in every game that he plays. With his skating he could have even been a top class figure skater. But what is greater than being able to combine hockey and figure skating? Anyway hockey has nothing to do with results and is all about astethics and how good everyone looks like on the ice. So Mikko is an amazing dominating superstar!

Hehe, I bet you're a fan of the team, that was a rival to the team Rantanen played for in Finland.

Nope. Rantanen's TPS was in fact my favorite team until I moved to Tampere as a teenager. I have always hated Tampereen Tappara, which was the rival for TPS, so I obviously took as my team Tampereen Ilves instead of Tappara, and have hated Tappara even more after that. But still, Laine (played for Tappara) was my favorite player last season in FEL (with Aho). I have always had sympathy for Rantanen's TPS and I liked his play pretty much there. But he definitely didn't show the same class that Laine and Aho showed last season. And has never shown before or after. His game just lacks intensity and the needed determination in the NHL.

So far he seems like a projected 3rd or 4th liner. And unless he considerably developes with his intensity and determination and also his shooting and physicality, I don't see him ever becoming a true star player. I think people have way too high expectations on him. But hey, this is my opinion that only Mikko can change with some real and consistent results. Not with any fancy plays and impressive skating unless they start showing on the board consistently.

You are so lost on this development thing and all. Everyone can see that you dislike him so most of us like I do, don't even finish reading your posts on him anymore.

The most hilarious thing I've seen in a while was when you put together his stats from last year's 9 and this year's 2 games.

Your expectations are way too high if you think he projects as a bottom 6 forward.

He's 20 years old, by your logic if he projects as a 3rd or 4th liner there must be exactly 186-279 young forwards who are better than him or who are projected to become better than him, despite the fact most of those projected 2nd to 1st liners aren't and won't even be in the NHL at Rantanen's age.

You really need to stop posting if you don't even bother to watch the games.
You're embarrassing.

It's so hard for you to accept that he is better than Aho.

Avs have had like 6 goals in the last 5 games, something absurdly terrible like that.

If Avs could actually score, Rantanen would've already had AT MINIMUM 5 points. He could have at least two yesterday if the puck wasn't rolling on him which Crawford still had to make an amazing save on, and if MacKinnon wasn't such a **** of a hockey player. Remember, MacKinnon has just one goal on the season thus far and he is Mikko's linemate.

He might as well be out there himself with the way Grigorenko and MacK are playing

Both MacKinnon and Duchene looked awful. No wonder he has no points before tonight.

It was only a matter of time until he got on the scoring sheet. He really doesn't have any weaknesses in his game. He seems to be one of those players who could play in any lineup and he would still do great.

I'm a big fan, and if you look, I said last year he wasn't ready and a bunch of Avs fans disagreed, but it looks like I was right then.

I also think he really isn't quite there yet, but the only way he's going to get to where he needs to go is by playing in the NHL. Still looks to me like he's rushing things too much when he has the puck on his stick. Immediately looking to pass it to someone else. He needs to be more assertive and trust in his talent and decide to be the guy who makes things happen.

Once he gets comfortable enough to do that I think he'll be fine.

Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes!!!!!
There wasn't a player on ice who deserved a point more. It's impressive to see Rants as the playmaker on the #1pp unit.

After that open net pass(and miss) to Landeskog I was sure Rantanen was cursed.

Finally someone who sees it exactly how it is. But quite good game from him anyway. And finally he got his first point. It was about time really. But he still has a long way to go to be a real force. His shooting skills are in fact pretty bad for a player who is supposedly playing in the 1st line of an NHL team. I like his skating for his size and his puck handling skills (especially puck protecting). But he seriously needs to develop some shooting skills and also he needs to get much more intensity and mean streak. Physically he is probably pretty much ready, but he just needs to develop his shooting technique and his timing in general. And for God's sake get some real intensity in his game. I definitely don't mind if he manages to do all this, as the Finnish national team will have in him a great strong player that is very tough to handle then. But he is definitely not there yet. Not really even that close yet...

Just looked up some stats and holy crap is this guy unlucky..

When Mikko is on the ice the Avs are averaging 45.16 shot's per 60. That's not shot attempts, that's actual shots. While Mikko is on the ice the team has a shooting percentage of 1.64%. His corsi for per 60 is 71.07. There are only 5 guys with 6 or more games played ahead of him in that category and those guys have 10, 1, 10, 12 and 10 points respectively. The other guy with 1 point is Hyman and his team shooting percentage while on the ice is over 3 times higher than Rantanen's.

I'm no stats wizard but things look like they may eventually start to sway the other way for Rantanen.

I really wanted him for the Leafs (and they did as well seeing as they invited him to meet management and gave him a tour of the facilities + city) but we got Marner (Which I am obviously happy with).

He is going to be a great player in the NHL. He can do it all. I wish I could have seen more of him than just highlights, but west coast makes that hard.

This exactly is what I would like to see from him.
I also think he seems to be just floating around and not involved in the play enough.

He was my favorite player outside of the top 5 in 2015. Colorado has an embarrassment of riches in their top 6.

I'm a big fan of our scouting lately eh. 2014 we were rumored to be trading down for Larkin if Nylander wasn't there, 2015 we were rumored to be trading down for Rantanen depending on how the top 3 went.

But then we moved down from the Konecny pick which I thought was stupid the moment we did it...

So out of touch it hurts to read.
